Papa Kante

Michigan accepts NCAA minimums just like us, so I don't think there's any way we could get him. He's probably gotta to to JUCO if he can't get the grades.

Bobi Klintman couldn’t enroll in Colorado due to academic issue but ended up with Wake Forest.
Things are a little bit different for International students.

If they want to enroll him, they'll enroll him. They are VERY active in the portal, I don't see a path for Kante to play much next year, based on the players Michigan is targeting right now. They're attached to at least 3 bigs and trying to get Hunter Dickinson to stay.

are you possibly suggesting they are backing off Kante, or telling him that he might now get much time on the court?

Kid couldn't get into Michigan because of graded and we're doing backflips to admit him?

How have times changed with "we do it the right way" and looking down on other programs.
Rutgers operates like every other school in the country regarding doing what they must to win.

These rumors are likely unsubstantiated unless you believe everything written on the internet is true.

This is how bad information starts.....there is ZERO way a kid gets denied admission after schools do their homework on a student athlete.

What this means, is he is already admitted AND Michigan has already potentially recruited over the player and would like to use that ship elsewhere....it happens more often than fans realize.

The "admission", is a way of stating they would rather take a more experienced player who can help in 2023-24 vs later down the line....there to me, is no issues with Papa Kante getting eligible anywhere. Let's just see if they keep room for him or use the admission loophole to essentially move on.

I don't have any idea what Michigan is doing other than trying not to get relegated to the NIT again next year. Every name they've been attached to in the portal is an upperclassmen or with 1 to 2 years left.

They rolled the dice with playing a lot of freshman the last 2 seasons and it's gotten them an 11 seed NCAA bid (Made Sweet 16) and a 3rd or 4 seed in the NIT.

I am guessing that Juwan Howard isn't interested in another rebuild with freshman gobbling up a ton of minutes like last year. Doesn't mean Kante won't still land at Michigan, but the Michigan boards started this item on "May not make it or admissions".....& looking at their 4 and 5 man targets at PF and Center, that's what it appears to be (to me).

Nothing official right now, but there are rumors going around about academic issues for him enrolling at Michigan.
The story is accurate and it relates to one of his test scores and a couple of core courses in the same area. He might prep for another year or might have to take a remedial course this summer. Michigan is still very involved with him.

Not quite. Overstatement.

this discussion brought back a memory from recruiting years ago

I don't remember who was our coach at the time, but we got a signed football letter of intent from a player in
California......

The player then got offered from UCLA, I think it was, and he wanted to go there.......so what he did was not finish a required course, or not put in the proper paperwork to get admitted to RU.....the end result was he was able to wiggle out of coming here.....

From an academic perspective,Rutgers is in the same boat as Michigan, but also Georgia and Clemson and the rest in terms of athlete admits. The schools which stand out as being far different are:
Ivies
Georgia Tech
Stanford
Vanderbilt
Rice
Northwestern
Notre Dame
I thought Wisconsin complains about having stricter standards than average too

Yes, from an academic qualifications perspective.

So the real insider confirms after Hawk posts over and over knowing nothing 🤣

Unlike you, I actually add content and value and I actually don't buy it. Since schools are off this past week, sometimes fans need to learn how to read other teams message boards.....in 90% of the cases, you actually might learn something.

Here's what I think and feel pretty comfortable about because I follow things way closer than others. If you want to be a blind fool, don't keep reading.

A) Michigan nor RU or any program would spend a high amount of time if there was ANY chance the kid would be close to not having core courses. Those things are flushed out WAY in advance.

B) Juwan Howard knew the living situation of Gavin Griffiths and Papa Kante. He recruited both players hard, as did RU. Do I think this "core course BS" for Papa Kante comes up if Gavin Griffiths was committed and signed to Michigan?? Absolutely 100% no way IMO.

C) If you can tell the fans the three Centers Michigan is targeting in the portal while trying to keep Hunter Dickinson, you would know that is a signal they're taking a win now approach. That means even if Kante sticks with Michigan, his path towards playing meaningful minutes is restricted..the "going to Prep", is a CODE word for, we want you, but we want you to wait a year or take a prep year to get better......

D) I actually went to see Griffiths and Kante play in person a couple of weeks ago at RU72 sponsored Schoolboy classic. I've made the trip at least 5 separate times in the last 10 years. You would be surprised how informative a game event like that is, there are always great (legendary in fact) people who are honored or attend. Going all the way back to the Great Tom Konchalski (Google Scaggg, maybe you'll learn something).

E) Finally and most critically, I actually spoke to Griffiths parents in a very casual conversation. The family is 1st class all the way, down to earth, quality, grounded people. Having spoken to them, in person, it is MY OPINION, that there is a 0.00001% chance, that Papa Kante, living with the Griffiths family, "somehow, miraculously", didn't complete some elective or core course along the way.

Again....the items IN MY OPINION, based in what I know for a fact, is extremely unlikely in terms of Kante.

Not a mic drop, but kinda close....!!🤣🤣

That and what NJHawk added later... just sounds right all-the-way-around... makes sense

Whenever you are wrong your word count just increases and you talk about other things instead

"This is how bad information starts.....there is ZERO way a kid gets denied admission after schools do their homework on a student athlete"

Then RU72 confirms the story is true and there is an academic concern

"The story is accurate and it relates to one of his test scores and a couple of core courses in the same area. He might prep for another year or might have to take a remedial course this summer"

Then you write a novel to distract from how RU72 confirmed the rumors and you were wrong and are mad at me for being wrong for some reason

Just take the L and move on. RU72 has spoken

It shouldn't be a test score issue because the NCAA just got rid of the test score requirement for the class entering college this fall: https://web3.ncaa.org/ecwr3/ Individual schools can still require test scores for student-athletes though.

Nobody isn't balling whether at Rutgers, Alabama, or Duke because of test scores. Maybe at Harvard and Princeton. That's about it.

It could be a TOEFL/IELTS (English proficiency) score issue with the school, and potentially an issue with ESL courses not counting as part of the 4 required English courses for eligibility. Depends if they are approved on the high school’s 48H.

UMich isn’t SAT/ACT required (but they very strongly prefer to see scores from regular students).
