Let's look at these 3 objectively.

1) Partridge, was coach of a successful NJ parochial school that had some of the states top recruits on his team. Not especially liked by the bulk of NJ high school coaches. Leaves to become UMich's recruiting coordinator, meaning he can't devote all his time to NJ recruits. His personal connection to top recruits in NJ is limited to a couple of seasons, will wane as new players emerge. Still, knows the landscape of NJ high school football.

2) Barthel, former player at RU, former (still?) trainer who had relations with many NJ high school recruits, successful at getting many top players to visit RU. His personal connection to top recruits will also wane with time as new players emerge, also knows the landscape of NJ high school football, although from a different perspective than Partridge.

3) Mantz, former player at RU, former GA at RU, longtime NJ high school coach, actively involved in NJ coach's association and is well like and respected throughout the state. His personal connection to high school coaches will be more enduring, knows the NJ high school landscape as well, if not better, than the other two. Combine his resume and add Campanile (played and coached at RU), who is also well connected and well liked amongst NJ high school coaches.

On the surface, IMO, option #3 is a slam dunk over the first 2. None of the 3 options can close the deal. That will depend on the HC. I'll take a cactus plant to close better than our previous coach, at least the plant won't say something dumb. Gotta believe our recruiting infrastructure, as outlined in this post is far superior to what we've experienced over the last few years.

Disclaimer: disregard all of the above if the product on the field stinks!

Barthel will land on his feet at another school that recruits NJ. Maybe UConn, Temple, Cuse, or a B1G school looking for an in to NJ HS coaches.

I said this in another thread - 1 and 2 are short term. Barthel and Partridge's worth was tied to specific recruits. That benefit will wear off most likely with next years classes. Their worth going forward will be tied to developing new relationships and if they can actually be on the staff as a coach. Partridge is not liked in the NJ coaching circles so he will need to add value outside of NJ to stay on staff.

Mantz = not tied to specific recruit.

Mantz and campanile is a great combo. Two X's and O's guys with good personalities.
Partridge has good value because he can coach. He won't be in a recruiting role for much longer if at all.
Barthel has never showed if he can coach. Maybe he can, but that first gig won't be at the B1G level.

A good recruiting coordinator uses the contacts he already has and builds new ones as he gets better know ,if he not from the area.
Partridge, like him or not, has connections to NJ HS FB and probably building good ones in Michigan, but he'll be looking to move up into a full assistant role and leave his RC behind.
Then use those contacts made for when he recruits kids as an assistant..
I think Barthel and Caltury will be trying to do the same
Mantz is 54 and might be happy just where he is now, but being a position coach might
be in the cards for him if Ash thinks he'll be a good fit as one.

All this stuff about partridge being disliked was fabricated overblown garbage drummed up by nj.com solely because it appeared that RU was going to hire him. You have not heard this alleged animosity obstructing any of CP's efforts as he hauls in better NJ class than Rutgers has ever had. If only we've had coaches that were hated as much as that.

It also helps to be Michigan and have Jim Harbaugh as your coach.

Partridge's biggest problems were with Hansen at SPP, Toal at Bosco , and to a lesser degree Fiore at Montclair . 3 programs that RU has done ok with, and 3 programs from which I don't remember Partridge getting anyone from (although Montclair doesn't have elite players every year, but does occasionally).

We could live without those programs if the other 500 find him so persuasive.

I'm mostly kidding. These kids are going to Harbaugh, not CP. But certainly this false notion that CP is hated by NJ coaches did not manifest itself in any way whatsoever, predictibly. It was all nj.com bullshit.

Flood had a good relationship with the HS coaches and it didn't amount to a hill of beans. The fact of the matter is that HS coaches have little to no impact on where a recruit goes to college. Also, some HS coaches have an agenda and will try to push you to offer their kids when they are not D1 caliber.
