Paul

I hope it’s not him. I wish him well and want to see him succeed.

With that said I don’t think he made the greatest decision leaving. He loved it here and could have helped our team next year (albeit on a more limited/different role).

I hope it’s not him but there’s a good chance it is. Where there’s smoke there fire.

I think he felt a lot of pressure to win here and he wanted a situation that he could take less personally. Just my feeling about it

If true, one heck of a cautionary tale.
Season 5 Nbc GIF by The Office

I don’t understand how he couldnt be happy if he got paid $400k. That’s an insane amount of money for someone with his skill set

Unless the NIL fell through

RHJ is only getting $560k for his two way contract
Some rumors out there, the number he was told on the visit is not the number he will be getting 🤐

Just highlighting the absurdity of the whole thing.
It was ok when cam transferred here. It was ok when Hughes and Duncan transferred here (we hang a banner proudly in the RAC) thanks to them.
It was ok when yeboah transferred here . Maybe stony brook has a special season if he stayed for his final year there.
That's a very salient point. Just about every fan will not look into the rear view mirror unless it's potentially detrimental to the success of their team.
Honestly, if you had a choice between Oscar and Paul, who helps this team more on the court?

I think it would make for interesting discussion.
The answer to that, I believe, occurred when Simpson stepped onto the court and gave life to a dying offense.

I feel bad for Paul. 22 year old kids make mistakes and unfortunately can get taken advantage of as well

I, for one , would have liked for Paul to return. Our team would be much better off especially in lieu of Oskar.

Unfortunately as we all have learned in our lives, the grass is not always greener on the other side of the tracks.

Lesson learned.

I actually think he wanted more/different than what Pikiell planned for him next year and he took it personally and made a rash decision.

He wasn’t going to be the starting PG and that probably rubbed him the wrong way.

Just my opinion we’ll probably never know.

Funny how so many here reveled in my talent misjudgment and shouted me down when I Paul said isn’t a high major starting PG … and even after the UW rumor broke I still said ‘just wait’

22 year old kid...

You're not a kid at 22. You can vote, drink, drive, join the military, etc.

He made his bed, he can lay in it.

Neurologically you are at adolescent until 26-28, every the brain finishes laying down its white matter. So both are true. Adult, and not.

Stop, it paul by a mile haha.

With that said this is a cautionary tale. Grass aint always greener. You cant act like a free agent and pick another school then want to come back if youre whining

There’s actually people who think we would be better with Oscar than Paul.

It’s a shame Paul left. He could have really helped us. He would have just had to play off the ball much more and play less minutes.

O well.

He made his decision to leave for a big payday, now he has to suck it up like a man and put his big boy pants on , he may not be happy now but that ship has sailed.

Mixed feelings on this one.

1. It was and is a bad look for a 2 time , mr jersey captain to go searching for greener grass and leave his program high and dry with bad timing . But ….

2. I can’t blame any kid who is offered several hundred thousand more than what they’re getting at that age. That’s life changing money at that age (any age) . And he wasn’t going pro so it was his chance to cash in on all those hours in the gym.

3. If programs or affiliated collectives are throwing empty or half true promises to these kids. That’s insane and nearly criminal adult activity on 17-22 year olds.

With all that said … these players sacrifice A LOT to these programs. Yes they also get a lot in return. But message board warriors ripping on these kids and writing them off is so out of touch in most cases . These players in D1 (football & bball especially) , don’t get many normal college experiences. They’re pro athletes who happen to be signed up for some classes. Now, more than ever.

Not sure who is advising these players if they are leaving on promises of NIL without a signed contract.
Don't fault any kid for leaving for extra money - the amount of money these kids can make now as an 18-22 yr can very probably be the most they will make by far than at any time in their 40 plus year work life. Invest/manage that money right, and these kids have an amazing start to their adult life. TOTALLY AGREE that you have to question who is advising and/or representing these kids if a school representing themselves an institution of higher education is selling these kids a fake bill of goods - PATHETIC BY THE SCHOOLS!!!

There seems to be some sour lemons towards Paul - while I wish he was here I really can't be mad at him. The wheels really seemed to come off at the end of last season - who knows what he was really going through. Couple that with being told you are going to lose PT after all your years of loyalty, and yeah don't blame him. It's interesting a kid who stayed home, and was seemingly Mr. NJ decides to go all the way across the country to Washington - coincidence?

On the whole I think we all need to grow very thick skin - unfortunately there are going to be a lot more defections with NIL becoming the center of the College landscape. Kills the soul of college sports as far as I'm concerned, but it is what it is I suppose.

Rooting for Paul, and hope all ends up well for him.

Tough crowd indeed. Here’s what I’ll say:

Say what you will about his on-court performance and the manner he left (plenty of people have) but Paul Mulcahy the Rutgers student is a great person who is looking out for his own security and those around him.

I’ve been able to spend time with Paul on certain occasions and he’s always the nicest and most gracious guy out there. There’s countless stories talking about how great a guy he is (his foundation, Pikes’ talking about him post-Hofstra, etc.). Just putting that out there to some of the things people say about him.

And if Washington had promised money and not followed through upon arriving, that’s a real bad look on them. If the scholarships were available (they likely aren’t) I’d take him back. But that’s just my 2¢, take what you will.

I don’t care that he took a bag. Good for him. Everything else about him was fake as hell. Glad pike told him to kick rocks.
Pike was publicly effusive about what a great guy Paul was at the end of the season. And then, according to you, Pike told him to kick rocks, whatever that means?

I do feel for Mulcahy in terms of being lied to by the UW NIL situation. That being said, to the posters who are saying they are dismayed Mulcahy wasn't allowed back, what would you think if the majority of the team became upset that he was allowed back after how his departure took place?

We’re still talking about Paul??
Jeez.
This is like when people would bring up HC Schiano every chance they got after he left.

let it go GIF

Of course he is, he is a perfect fit for that team.
Let’s wait and see what happens. It took him a month to get comfortable here. I am guessing there is more depth at his position. He really is a bad on ball defender.

I think he is a good fit, but it wouldn’t shock me if he wasn’t a player you see in the game with the game on the line.

Hearing some rumblings that he was sold a bill of goods that unfortunately was a lot of vapor. Pretty shitty if true.
Reading this thread he doesn't even seem to have a scholarship - were things said to him tongue and cheek and he misunderstood and just showed up on their doorstep one day? If things like this are going on players need a union - what a mess college sports is these days.

Once you’re in the portal I would think that doesn’t matter
Yeah players need to be protected - contracts/binding documents need to be in place. Curious to know what specifically went on in Paul's situation - almost sounds like the Bryan Fortay situation (there's a name from the past!) at Miami!
