Per TH: Ahmir Mitchell Leaning Towards RU

Article says if the appeal goes through he could be playing as early as this year.

Hairball is gonna be pist.

Edit:Story says he is filing an appeal and also fighting for a hardship waiver, which would get him on the field this season, but is unlikely. Typically in conference transfers need to sit 2 years. So would the regular appeal get him on the field next season?

Question: Is the losing an year for in conference transfer immediate or just in general. Meaning, he has to sit out 2 years straight? Or does he just lose a year (let's say he doesn't play his Senior season).

He would only lose this year if he doesn't get a hardship waiver to play this year. If he doesn't get the waiver he will lose a year of eligibility and be ready for next year. 3 to play 3.

No, you only have to sit one year, you just lose another year of eligibility. If he goes to Temple he can play in 2017 and still have four years to play, if he goes to RU or another B1G team, he can still play next year but only has three years left to play.

Pretty sure JH could block the transfer if he wanted, that does not appear to be the case.

That was my understanding, too. But the way it is worded in the article is that B1G interconference transfer rules are that the player loses two years of eligibility, not that he has to sit for two years. He has to sit one year due to NCAA FBS transfer rules. But the way I'm reading the article, the player can play the next year, he just loses another year of eligibility so that his college career will be over in three years.

From the article:
Per Big Ten transfer rules, Mitchell will have to sit out the 2016 season, and will lose an additional year of eligibility, in order to transfer home. That would leave him with three years to play three.

Why wouldn't he have 4 to play 3?

Not an immediate loss of eligibility - just in general!

Assuming his appeal is unsuccessful, then he must sit out 2016 - which as a transfer, he has to do wherever he goes.

If he were to transfer outside the B1G, in 2017 he'd have four to play four. If he transfers to RU (or elsewhere within the B1G) he loses a year of eligibility - but it can be any year. Not sure if that means he has four to play three, or three to play three. But he can play from 2017 through 2019, and then hopefully move on to the NFL, degree in hand.

Think about the skill players we could have on the 2017 team...

I thought we were trying to move away from drug users and petty criminals... Oh well. It was a nice thought while it lasted.
Whatever is takes. We aren't in the Patriot League dude. We are up against OSU, PSU and Mich and Nebraska.

Harbough probably made an excuse to kick him off to have more room for higher potential recruits. He saw that he wouldn't make it there. I suspect there will be 1-2 more NJ recruits that won't make it there. I don't expect him to be a 4 star but maybe a 3 star recruit.

Yeah... I've seen him play in person. Obviously he's talented but didn't appear to be a great teammate. Couple that with someone essentially getting kicked off the UM team within 7 months is pretty extreme.
I'm not thrilled but intrigued.
Let's see him work with the team for a year but not be eligible to play in 2016.
Let's see him make the 2 deep heading into summer camp of 2017.
Bo was a better and more feared player as a junior when they were on the same team and I expect the same will be true next year and moving forward.

Not for nothing but if Harbaugh has already decided this guy is not any good, then are we sure we want him? Sounds like Kiy Hester, or that dude from South Carolina and the numerous other high rated transfers that don't pan out.

Almost rather he got caught smoking weed.

Man, lose 2 years of eligibility? I had always thought it was just having to sit for 2 years. Losing 2 years would be a deal breaker for me.

However if one of those years is a rs season, then not as big a deal. Seems odd that that would be the case. To me losing 2 years means you only have 2 years to play.

To the guy two posts above me, are you out of your mind saying with such conviction that Kiy Hester hasn't panned out? He started seven games for us last year, will be our 3rd best safety this year, and will most likely start next year and the one after that for us. How that equates to not panning out totally beats me - please, enlighten me.

Moving on to Mitchell, you guys are also out of your minds if you aren't extremely excited about this...Mitchell is the TRUTH. We need guys with his level talent to compete with the big boys in the B1G. Clearly Ash is vetting him to make sure he won't be a problem in the locker room, and I'm sure at the first sign of trouble he'd be cut loose. As far as talent though, it's a no-brainer. You have to want him. Big, strong, fast - we don't have anyone on our current roster with the skill set that he brings to the table.

We literally lose FIVE of our top WR's after this year (Grant, Agudosi, Patton, Matthews, Tsimis - ALL seniors). Some of the young guys look promising - Bailey, Harris, Jabbie, maybe Blunt as well - but if you're at all comfortable with our WR situation for next year you're crazy. Mitchell would be a massive addition.

The two players you mentioned are working or worked out well for the program. I wish RU was at the point that we don't even think about bringing someone in this situation in; however, RU is not even close to that point yet.

Only one of the above mentioned is still listed on the team.

Well hopefully he learned from whatever caused him to get kicked off the team. Harbaugh is a tough dude and expects his players and personnel around him to hold themselves to high standards. Ash is really no different, I would think, so if Mitchell comes here he'll also need to hold himself up to high standards as a teammate, as a student, and as a player.

Loses one year of eligibility. You have 5 to play 4. He sits one year and then has three to play three.

If you think a kid is not Div 1 caliber you push him out after a season (You need all the tackling dummies as possible). During the season you make the kid feel underappriciated and quiet uncomfortable day in an day out until he gets the drift - "They hate me, I best just leave after the bowl game." Happens all the time.

Ahmir must have from the start did everything you don't do as a freshmen. Stay out late, post on social media, smoke, drink etc. If you can't start off on the right foot as a "scared freshmen," think about what a kid would be like if he was a starter and all world. Uncontrollable.

Being booted from Michigan may get this kid to wake up.

Our fanbase never learns.

No thank you. A school isn't just going to let a talented player go.

I'll make a list for you guys of all the transfers (not grad, not JUCO) that were impact players here:

Done.
Wrong. Hester is an impact player. Started 7 games last year, will play this year and most likely start the next two years.

Let's clear this up. Assuming no hardship waiver is granted (medical or otherwise), all players have 5 years to complete 4 years of eligibility, meaning they can sit out any 1 year for any reason and still have a full 4 years of eligibility. Each year beyond that a player sits out it costs them a year of eligibility. NCAA rules require transfers to sit 1 year. If the player has not sat out yet, this year does NOT cost them a year of eligibility. However the B1G has an additional rule that inter-conference transfers lose a year of eligibility regardless of whether or not they have sat out a year before.

In this example (again assuming no hardship waivers are granted), Mitchel is a 2016 enrollee so starting this season he has 5 years to play 4, meaning the last possible year he can play CFB is 2020. If he transfers out of the conference, he will have to sit out the 2016 season and have 4 years to complete 4 years of eligibility. If he transfers to RU, he will have to sit out the 2016 season and because it is an inter-conference transfer, he will also lose a year of eligibility as per B1G transfer rules. He is eligible in 2017 with 4 years remaining to use 3 years of eligibility. If he plays in 2017, 2018 & 2019, he is out of eligibility. However if he misses one of those years for any reason (assuming no more transfers), he will be eligible to play in 2020. If he misses more than of those years, his eligibility still runs out after the 2020 season because 5 years will have elapsed since his initial enrollment.

THIS right here is why I am willing to wait and see what the deal is. The Flood damage to this program is real folks, some people still have their heads in the sand about that one for some reason.

It will take years for Ash to build this team to match his vision like at least 4 classes. So it is all hands on deck until then.

If he is not worth the risk then Temple will be glad to take him, but if he got release on bs and it wasn't anything serious, then, we should welcome him with open arms and if he screws up, cut him.
