Perfect New Coach for Temple

Got your next Temple coach right here.

South Jersey guy, recruited NJ for years while at UD - his alma mater, ninth fastest coach in college football history to reach 200 career wins on any level. Why not?

That could be risky taking coach from FCS. Should see how Willie Fritz pans out at Tulane (4-8 this year). Keeler was fired at Delaware.

Didn't we all learn that anybody trying to build a program doesn't do it in one year? And yeah he got fired, after one 5 win season. Then SHSU scooped him up and he's got them ranked #1 in the nation. Just won coach of the year. How's his replacement at UD doing? They definitely regret that move.

Don't disagree about the Delaware firing. Don't follow Delaware, but it was odd because his Wiki page said he was just given a 10 year extension. I wasn't judging Willie Fritz based on one year--said wait and see how he does. People may disagree, but Temple is a mid level destination job that a FBS coach at a MAC school might look to. Just seems risky to turn it over to an FCS coach. Maybe KC Keeler could go to FAU, WKU or a school like that and work his way up?

Oh I know it's risky, but Temple is going to have to catch lightning in a bottle with the way teams are recruiting Jersey. Ash was on a roll early, Franklin has used his team's in field success to draw in more guys, UM and tOSU get their pick every year, and Pitt has been recruiting Jersey guys more recently as well. Going to need someone who's familiar with Jersey to succeed. They have to be able to find some under the radar guys that have the potential to be studs. Keeler is from the Lehigh Velkey area and got his first HC gig at Rowan. Knows the area. He also runs the spread like Rhule did. Wouldn't be the flashiest hire but would be a great fit.

That's why I think PJ Fleck should consider Temple. That's risky for both sides. Perhaps more risky for Temple is Darell Hazell. Yeah, he stunk it up at Purdue, but it's Purdue--a tough place to win. Hazell did well at Kent State, or was he just a flash (pun intended) for two years? Hazell is from Cinaminson, NJ, and has the connections. He has a great coaching pedigree (AHC under Tressel at tOSU for 7 years). If I was Temple's AD, I'd give Hazell a serious look and see if I could get him on a 2-3 year deal.

I was sure this thread was gonna be about Terry Shea.

Cincinnati already reached out to Fleck and he told them he was only interested in P5 jobs. Door already closed. He'll probably wait at least another year before making the jump. He has Midwest roots so UC would've been a better fit for him anyway. And Hazel I like as well, thought they would've reached out by now. But I'm guessing the fact he just got fired by Purdue makes him look like a worse option.

But FCS coaches are risky when moving up to FBS level--someone I know made that statement and is sticking by it. Can't remember who that was.

If you were in charge at tOSU, Tressel would've never been hired. Quite a few FCS HC's used to be assistants at FBS schools.
