You really can't make this s#it up. I want to hear from the people that are offended by the Scarlet knight. Morons

I'm offended that anyone at Rutgers would find this of any value whatsoever! Too stupid to live...

We should just drop the mascot or go to the real knight on the horse with no face just a mask.

You do realize that having a petition like this only perpetuates this issue - better to ignore it. It got its 15 minutes of fame, now it will just die off unless people keep arguing about it.

I hate the cartoon-character version of the knight -- always have, regardless of the face, although this one is better than some in the past -- but you need one since obviously a knight on horseback won't work indoors. But for football games, only the knight on horseback -- at least for home games, anyway -- is preferable, and that person has no color behind the mask. Or gender, for that matter. Anyone who can handle a horse and fit in the costume can be the Scarlet Knight.

But the idea that the cartoon mascot needs diversification is beyond the normal foolishness that goes on around campus. What's next? The Notre Dame leprechaun (how are Native American mascots insensitive portrayals of a culture but that thing is allowed to cavort on the sidelines?) has to be Asian?

just change our school color and put him..(ooops I meant IT) in a rainbow smock. while we're at it get rid of the sword and replace it with a magic wand.

The purpose of a cartoonish mascot is for a younger audience which he appeals to. Why would you want to get rid of something that our younger fans enjoy? In fact I find him amusing when he dances with the dance team. Visiting fans usually get a chuckle as well. But I do agree that diversifying the knight is absurd, since I really doubt that his whiteness offends anyone that actually watches the games.

The 'horseback' Knight actually comes to basketball games, just walks around instead of being on horseback.

He should be dressed like Liberace. That would make the profs and some student government happy.

Exactly how "diversified" is this organization?

Spanky is right. Its not going anywhere. Next year there will be a new flock of kids in RUSA and many won't even know this was ever a party plank.

+1

ignore it, and the whole issue goes away. Sign a petition, and you help keep the issue in the news.

Does the issue really go away if ignored? Is there any possibility that this nonsense can come to fruition?
The "body" passing this resolution has no authority over what they are resolved about. Ignore it and we'll stop hearing about it.

I thought the current mascot outfit was paid for through private donations. I think this will die quickly when RUSA is asked how much they wish to contribute to fund the alternate mascots.
