We usually walk over Landing Lane bridge from NB. Saw the line going up the hill as we approach the South gate and my heart sank. As we got closer realized it was the bag line and thanked God we didn't have any women in our group. Strolled right on in.

No way . Most people enter into the east gate.
What do people put in those small clear bags that they can’t stuff in their pockets? I do think they should have bag signs exiting every lot, so people might see it and leave as much in the car as possible.
Monorail is often used as a misnomer for it, but there have been a couple studies performed over the past few decades on the feasibility of a NB area Light Rail system.
IMO it would be a great investment for the region, but there has never been the political will.
Mono or light rail is so sorely needed. it would be such a game changer for RU , the companies around there , each town/city
A light rail system potentially makes sense, but the RU campus system is diffuse. Buses would allow for much greater flexibility to serve multiple destinations, such as Busch versus Livingston. At the very least, a mass transit bridge would be a huge circulation improvement.
That would be a good reason. Assuming city lands are involved, I think it would be a pretty easy pitch to them to get literally hundreds of buses per day off their city streets.
Music was definitely not as loud as last year.

I agree. Music wasn’t loud. The PA announcer was not loud enough.
Where do you want this light rail to go ? Through college ave to Busch ? Through the New Brunswick park, across the Ratitan and then Johnson park ?
I don’t know how feasible this is. . Even if it was , It would take years of planning, engineering and to get all permits and approvals . It won’t even get done by the time Schiano surpasses Saban for titles
HUH? I'd say "not even close." The South (students) and North Gates (C/D) have the most traffic. East (Gate E/Audi Club) is next to The Hale Center (last I checked).
They do need to let the bag policy “go”: yes no backpacks or huge bags but honestly what can someone sneak in a purse they could not sneak in under a hoodie? If someone is intent on a terrorist act to think banning purses would add 1oz of protection or deterrence is a bit foolish IMO

What's a Rutgers game experience without a bunch of New Jersians whining, complaining and telling those that get it or got it wrong how to get it right.
I've been walking from Purple, Black, or Blue for the last 20 years. I'm telling you The North Gate (C/D) is the busiest. It's like 5 times the size of The East Gate and takes on fans from all lots (other than Hale Center).
The light rail is a university and NB/Piscataway improvement. It’s to elevate NB into a next tier city . To make the RU student (and all those who work at RU) experience significantly more efficient and tolerable. It would reduce the logistics nightmare and disadvantage's of having such a sprawling campus.
Yes it would take many years to plan, fund, permit, and build. But the impact certainly would be greater than some other projects like the Bergen county light rail for example
Oddly enough, WVU built the nation’s first personal rapid (debatable) transit system (PRT) in the nation. It must be 50 years old now and fairly antiquated.
I prefer buses over any sort of rail.
This. I was looking for this thread after the game. I enjoy the stadium operating complaint threads more than anything.
I liked the metal detectors. The bag only gates are stupid though. Not enough people are going to know that ahead of time and its going to piss people off and have them to wanting to return.
The buses idk what you could do. You can't stop traffic. I got caught on a bus 2 seasons ago in traffic for a Friday night game and it took like an hour, that sucked, never again.

Yes. I rode it regularly and it worked well, but hours were limited on weekends and the cars are small. They fill up fast during busy times. If RU ever got one, a stadium route line would need to be dedicated solely for transportation there on game days.
They promised us at the first Super Bowl and World’s Fair that we would have them by now. More broken promises.
Heart trouble, infidelity, etc are all smoke screens. The straw that broke Hobbs' back was being flooded with complaints on the stadium entry experience for a 9th year in a row.
The Route 18 does have a walkway over the bridge. Cyclist (which is extremely minimal) can go over Landing Lane. They also can take the Rt 18 bridge but if it's crowded they would be walking anyway!
The complaints could have led to heart trouble and his need to reduce stress in inappropriate ways.

There was really one major problem that needs to be addressed. The rest of you just enjoy bitching about everything. It’s amazing that I can attend the same game and not have all the issues that others have. Maybe it’s in your planning? How you’re wired? Not sure.
They need to create bus only lanes / routes . Either on the shoulders or the police allow the buses through on opposite side of road at some spots.

Realistically though it can't happen. You either need to go to Landing Lane bridge from Easton Ave (Easton Ave being a one lane road and Landing Lane being a one lane road) or yes possibly they allow the bus on the shoulder of Rt 18 (if there is one the entire way across the river) but then you still have one lane road on River Rd.
If you find a way, email multiple people at RU and I will even try to bring it up myself. I have found with Rutgers when you have good ideas you get bounced around a few times, you reach someone and the idea dies on the vine.
I also went from 8 to 0 tickets due to the music.

Copy the Exclusive Bus Lane in Hudson County. This bus lane carries 1,850 buses and 70,000 passengers every weekday morning through the Lincoln Tunnel into the Port Authority Bus Terminal. This bus lane is opened and closed daily more than 200 days per year.
A Route 18-River Road exclusive bus lane * would carry less than 10% of the buses and passengers a few days per year, compared to the Hudson County bus lane. Why can't it get done?
On the bag situation, long waits are unacceptable. I thought about this as I entered Yankee Stadium yesterday with my three children. Many fans had bags. The game featured the #1 Yankees on a beautiful holiday weekend afternoon. The stadium was nearly full. The lines to get inside moved smoothly. Why can't the lines move smoothly at Rutgers-Howard football in Piscataway on a Thursday?
Ultimately, responsibility for football gameday operations sits with the athletic director. In case you didn't know, Rutgers does not have one and won't for several months.
My sense is interim AD Ryan Pisarri is aware of the football gameday bottlenecks but did not have the authority to drive changes when Pat was on the job.
On Tuesday morning, Ryan should fire the staffer running football gameday operations. Then, Ryan should meet with state and county road officials and make the Route 18-River Road exclusive bus lane a reality as soon as possible. At the same time, fix the bag problem too.
