More then a few here wanted him hired as RU new OC.

Ole Miss is planning to hire Phil Longo as its offensive coordinator and Wes McGriff as its defensive coordinator, sources told FootballScoop Thursday.

A source tells FootballScoop that once the deals are finalized an announcement should come no later than Friday.

Longo will arrive to Oxford from Sam Houston State, where he put together one of the most potent attacks in the NCAA.

So a schoool with unlimited funds hires a 1AA guy and a defensive back coach. Yet, our fans demand a P5 coordinator.
HAS Ole Miss had eight OCs in last 9 years? maybe thats why everyone wants someone who has been sucessfull at this level allready?

New news..Jerry Kill contacted.

Ash wanted a run-first spread offense at Rutgers, but what he got against top defenses was a no-dimensional offense that struggled to gain first downs.

Kill's offense -- created at Southern Illinois -- was effective enough that his successor at Northern Illinois (Dave Doeren) kept parts of it intact and reportedly even sent some of his staff to Minnesota to learn it.

Now North Carolina State's coach, Doeren is Ash's former college teammate at Drake.

I would not mind Kill. I like the idea of having someone with HC experience on staff as well to give some guidance to Ash. I just hope Jerry is healthy. Those seizures were scary to watch.

Just worry about Kill's health, it's why he isn't HC at Minnesota anymore
He stated when he left he never could be a HC again because of his health issues (suffering seizures on game days). Don't know if he's up to being an oc or would leave his assistant AD position at Kansas State.
But he did leave Minnesota because him and the Golpher AD didn't agree on him wanting to be still be involved with the Minnesota football program after he stepped down as HC.

He'd be a good get and his HC experience Ash could lean on , but would his health permit his taking on the task of making the RU O a good one?
He hasn't been an OC since 1991 to the end of 1993 at Pittsburgh St. Also was their DC from 85 through 87 before joining the HS coaching ranks in 1988

Urban Meyer approved:f the last year has proven anything about Ash, it's that he values Ohio State coach Urban Meyer's opinion above all others. And Meyer, who emphasizes special teams more than most head coaches, used to watch Kill's special teams on Sundays. "I have always appreciated guys who worked their way through the ranks," Meyer said when Kill retired. "They are losing a heck of a coach.
another bonus..Kill knows special Teams..which we were beyond horrible, allmost unwatchable level at last season..

Kill would be a Fridge like mentor, which is something that a lot of people want.

The Toledo OC has impressive results and would be a big upgrade from DM.

Kill isn't healthy.
neither was Fridge, couldnt stand for any period of time.Worked with him up in booth calling shots. Maybe Kill will be an advisior type OC and a young gun will be C0-OC?

I don't get why Kill would be so attractive a candidate. I was not impressed with the Minnesota offense at all during his tenure. He did not run a spread offense, his 0L is huge and slow, and they prefer a power based run game. In addition, he is not really healthy enough to take on the rigors of this job. We need an energetic, charismatic guy who can coach and recruit. I'm not so sure about this candidate.

Jerry Kill's Minny teams had 8-4 regular seasons in 2013 and 2014 with 4-4 and 5-3 conference records. I think we would take that.

If we are 8-4 with a 5-3 conference record we would probably have beaten Indiana, Maryland, Illinois, Purdue, and 1 game we will be an underdog in (Ohio St, PSU, Mich St, Nebraska, Michigan).

I wouldn't care what offense we run if the results are there.
