Pikiell Excited for Corey's Return

edit: McKnight beat me to it on the interesting quote.

Wonder if he means he intends to have 13 scholarship players available (i.e. no transfers sitting out)

I might be in the minority but with the return of Sanders i think we will have a nice backcourt that will help us be competitive with some improved coaching. I think we can win around 7 B1G games next year maybe steal another if we can get an improved healthy frontcourt with at least one more decent wing.

full roster doesn't mean no transfers sitting out; at least unlike with last year's roster they can practice.

We were manhandled by the Big Ten last year. Where do you see our Big Ten wins coming from next season?

Better Defense and not having 7 players on the team. Indiana game we missed like 8 or 9 layups or we could have won that game.

What did Jordan have this team doing? This is a division one program, in a power five conference, and the wow comments are not in a positive light.

I just feel duped, once again.

Higgins....I would not recommend kicking your dog (if you have on), but, get a dart board with EJ's pic and throw some darts.....lol

Not one to get that serious, but Jordan was making decent money here. Just seemed like he was not worth what he was getting paid, and we got played.

your expectations are too high...tough to go from one win to 7 or 8 in league. This team only won 7 games last year, it will need to learn how to win not to mention gain some chemisty. Its more about developing the foundation and becoming competitive once again. I think we are still talking 4-5 league wins realistically tops. This is a tough league and RU is still 14th in talent in the league

At least the wow comments means there is a lot of room for improvement. Glass half full lol

A jump in wins should be expected but not just from coaching. All of the missed games last year with injuries/suspensions killed us. We had games with literally no big men. Can't expect to compete like that but Diallo and doorson basically didn't play last year so add them in + grad transfers + freshman means there will be a lot different players on the court. We didn't lose much in seniors and everyone has the extra year of experience. Sanders taking the next step this year should also really help. As the PG he will make the whole team better and with more talent around him and better coaching he should be more effective

I'm not at all surprised by Coach Pikiell's comments. I said in another thread that some of these players were going to be working harder than they ever had.

I really like Coach Pikiell, he's going to be good for Rutgers. Give him time rebuild the program

I am curious to what Coach Steve P means by saying that "IF we can get healthy, we can be good"

That;s what I have been saying...but wonder if his idea of good and mine are the same thing

FYI...My idea of good with this group is 16-15 this year and 19-12 and on the bubble the year after...

When you have as many injuries as we had, one thing you have to look at is conditioning. Also, it was clear that we were able to compete at a certain level for about 20 minutes. Again, lack of conditioning. I think BK even hinted at one point that conditioning was not a big part of practice. And then when you had all of the injuries and couldn't run a full practice and couldn't risk injuries in practice, the problem became worse. I think weight training is definitely something that was not emphasized, we were not strong enough to compete at this level. Looking forward to seeing guys step it up at every position this year.

I think that is an issue that has to be addressed with recruiting asap. that is one area that Jordan clearly understood and was trying to improve. I wonder about Matt Bullock and if he isn't going to be converted to play some guard.

If the head coach is not setting the standard, what happens every where else?Hows that strength and conditioning coach Jordan brought from the NBA?Half the game is strength and conditioning, the other half is basketball. Without the first, your team wont last the year.

Unfortunately all of this is on the ADs....Both JH and TP

Seem to remember a few conference games where we played well the 1st half and were routed in the 2nd half. Wasn't one of those games against Michigan State, where the Spartan guy set the record for 3's? Bet our 1st half play in several games sparked the half time speech of the opposing coach: What, you gonna let those clowns hang with you? Go out there and wax them.

Jesus Eddie was even worse than Flood

Please tell me that you are not gullible enough to accept all the anecdotal evidence about former coaches as truth.

Whenever any coach is fired, the sharks immediately smell blood in the water and bring out every piece of anecdotal evidence they can find that supposedly shows the incompetence of that former coach. There will be zero evidence suggesting competence on the part of that coach, so the picture we get is going to be distorted, possibly severely.

A coach is fired because he did not get the job done, so there are going to be shortcomings that explain that. Those shortcomings are going to be exaggerated by the circumstances. The debatable question should be, how much?

After about 1.5 years, it became obvious.
Some ( like me) put hope in front of the obvious and were to blind ( talking about only me ) to see it.

But not so many HCs ago I was claiming give him more time and he'll prove to be the one that builds RU MBB into a winner.
That was before he was let go for his baseball move and then I started to see what others were telling me about Freddie being a terrible HC.
So Jordan isn't the first RU MBB HC I was wrong about :chairshot:

I would not go that far, but I see what you are saying. AD hires them, right? But where is the dignity of someone to push his level of coaching, to take his job as seriously as possible and try to get some progress out of his kids?

To be honest, I also think the period of uncertainty with the coaches had this effect on the kids. They did not have a coach, they were not being looked at day in and day out. Once Jordan was fired, they were in limbo for a month of two. Gained some weight, etc.

Still, people will still support Jordan, and I do not wish negativity on any person, but he took on a decent salary, and it does not seemed like he made any real positive strides. I supported his hiring, coaching term, too. This past year though, I backed off.

People can say Jordan did not have his kids, etc. Well, he did hire an old friend to get those kids in shape, and how did that go do?When you are the coach, you set a standard. Seemed to be far too low.

whether its stretched or not I don't really care, everything about the basketball program was an embarrassment last year. I'm glad we have a coach that spends more than 5 minutes a week recruiting and also teaches fundamentals

Tp Hired flood...JH stuck with Both of these guys. I'm sure her hands were tied to an extant but I would have been showing up at practices making demands of my coaches if i knew they were both lazy.

to be fair I don't think Flood was lazy, just outmatched. He did find us some diamonds in the rough, I give him credit for that, he just couldn't land the big fish.

Pikiell was hired 9 days after Jordan was fired and the players were on spring break during the majority of that time.

Did you miss everything about Flood routinely leaving early? Not recruiting kids hard? Not answering phone calls from recruits?

EDIT: realized you weren't a subscriber. if you were you would know how bad Flood was, you'd be pissed like the rest of us.
