Pikiell wants 13 three point attempts per game

Just show the team and the coaches tape of Michigan games and copy as much as possible.

If he's stressing to the players to not take threes then they're going to be tentative when they do and it's going to become a self fulfilling prophecy.

Michigan has 30 attempts right now against Air Force. Only hitting 33% but three pointers and layups is so plainly the optimal basketball strategy in this day and age.

Taking lots of three’s is more palatable if you have guys who are ballers with a nose for retrieving errant shots. Today it seemed like we got beat to every loose ball.

this team is missing open 3s and bad shot selection 3s

i agree with Pike a team not hitting 3s shouldnt be taking that many..they settled for a lot of them, particularly against this team

when the offensive shots are falling and its a faster pace game and this team might take more than 15-18 3s, but this game was just too many

With each succeeding game its becoming more evident that Rutgers lacks players that can shoot off the dribble .As such the offense basically crawls to a stop as the 30 second shot clocks winds down. There is a absence of go to shooters and the offensive flow is helter/ skelter with far too many unforced turnovers.

Take GOOD 3's. Stop forcing them. Also, the team was 1-17 at one point in the game. Means you CAN'T shoot the 3. STOP!!! Carter was killing it inside. feed the bigs. I know it's 2018-19, but there's something to be said about old school bball

Several good looks again...keep shooting...you simply cant win or take the next step shooting minimal 3s

I like our chances to get out of this slump

I agree with your first paragraph but wonder what players will suddenly make 3 pointers against tougher league competition in 2019?

I believe Harper is going to start making...he's too good not to. Many of the points being made (especially by Hawk) are accurate, but if you look at Pike's teams they trend better...so this will happen. When that happens, I believe that will lead to others making as well. I am not saying we'll be the best shooting team in the B1G...but we'll be better than we are now...we are much closer to winning some of these closely contested games with just a couple more makes a game...which is well within our reach.

I'm not sure about that------watch the high end conferences and look at the guys playing the 3 spot.

He has a lot of work to do athletically.

There's plenty of time to do that but he can't run and jump with those guys.

Amazing how over the years this program has been so lacking in shooters.

Michigan has guys that can shoot. You can only ask the guys to do what they are capable of and coach around that.

This whole notion that you need to shoot a ton of threes to win is only half right. Right now our threes are not dropping. Just because Michigan or Steph Curry and the Warriors knock down threes, doesn’t we will. I get it, if you make 30% from three over the course of 50 shots, that’s worth 45 points. As opposed to 40% from 2 over 50 shots, that’s worth only 40 points. I get all of that. But, I really think it should be more about quality shots than ripping off 30 threes and hoping a certain percentage falls. Its also about timing. You can’t say we need to chuck up a bunch of threes and if a certain percentage fall we’ll win. What if you miss a ton early when you need a quality possession. I’m not a huge analytics guy when it comes to some of this stuff. Some of these numbers are very misleading to say the least.

I agree. The midrange game almost makes no sense anymore. The one exception is the team without long range shooters, and we are one of those teams right now. Thiam, Kiss, and Harper were supposed to provide this but they’ve been AWOL after the first few games.
