For a few years now, it's become clear to me that Michigan State has laid the blueprint on how to go from a mediocre program to a perennial conference championship contender. In this time of uncertainty, I thought this article, written by Kirk Cousins, would bring a little optimism to the board. I realize that for every Mark Dantontio there are 5 Al Golden's, but it's nice to know that it's not out of the realm of possibility that one day we will be a legitimate program. Also, I think this article illustrates the patience we need throughout this process. Ash is walking into a program with a serious lack of talent (at least B10 level talent) and a black cloud over its head. Here's to hoping that Ash has the stuff to move expectations from bowl game ---> conference championship ---> playoffs by year 7.

Great article. Thanks for posting!

Disagree about serious lack of talent and black cloud. We had one bad season. Talent is a little thin, but it is there in skill positions. The young DBs showed promise. Our RBs are young, and solid new recruits behind them will keep continuity. Areas of concern after 2016 will be OL and DL depth. Confident Ash and Staff will develop talent on roster, recruit and transfer in necessary fortification.

I hope you're right, and I probably am overstating things based off of one terrible season. The mixture of bad recruiting, dismissals, and early entries has me concerned though. Our back 7 is SCARY thin

The lack of OL and DL production are huge problems. Winning football all starts there.
Totally agree and areas where MSU does absolutely outstanding jobs of developing talent. MSU in my opinion has one of the best and most complete staffs in college football. They simply do more with less year in and year out. It's great to aspire to, but real tough to replicate what they've done. Though not impossible.

This can happen here under competent coaches, and I think it will. Maybe faster than any of us could imagine in our wildest dreams.
