Please be Nice to Penn State fans

And a big sarcastic thank you to NJ.com for advertising to all the NJ PSU fans to attend the game. You know they want the headline of this game to say Beave Stadium East.

"much of" ? OK, you lost complete credibility. (some of would have been fair just like "some of" you folks)...just like the one's who come on our site to lecture us.

PS, she's gone for good reason.

You guys seriously don't have a clue. And you wonder why this continues. You are the host, you treat your guests with respect. If they are dicks then be dicks back. But that isn't close to what happened and no amount of name calling or contortions change it (they in fact reinforce it).
You've been doing this college football thing for a long time yet have no clue what it's about. This "Pedd State" nonsense from men in their 50s proves it over and over again.

I think Ohio state put up a sign ;"be Nice to a Michigan fan today"!
How about we dont like State Penn..

gee...isn't that EXACTLY what I said in the prior post I made? (and I have never used that reference).

Maybe check with what your AD at the time had to say about it?

It doesn't "happen everywhere". Some remarks and ribbing back and forth are fun and expected THAT happens everywhere. I've been everywhere in 40 years of college football fandom and have never experienced anything like it. And "sensitive"? Again, stop being purposely obtuse and take ownership of the vile behavior of (much of) your fanbase. You're in the Big 10 now, act like it. Stop making excuses and treat people with respect, it isn't hard.
she apologized over a flag. A flag that maybe 10 people saw in person. that's what has you so upset a flag? like I said...little sensitive. hell, if you watch college gameday you see worse every Saturday. as for the rest of your rant...you think it's coincidence the entire B1g hates your fans? it isn't because you are unrivaled either.

Penn State fans have always treated me with respect and courtesy. There's no need to attack one another. I've been telling posters on this site for years to stop it with the Paterno attacks and Sandusky threads because it would get back to the players and one day come back to bite us in the butt. I don't think I'm alone when I say that this Saturday night we will witness a savage beating of mammoth proportion. Now it's up to coach Ash to get this team ready to play for all four quarters.

Anecdotal vs all the press and the fact that your AD had to apologize. And global warming is a hoax because there is snow in my yard. Good lord man.
again what press? the press was about a flag. ONE flag. they were so mean they had a flag......it was terrible, so so terrible.

Lol. Maybe in your small mind. Why here is a great recent example from an Iowa fan:

"I was in State College for Iowa's 41-14 loss to Penn State.

I was in Kinnick Stadium last night for Iowa's amazing 14-13 win over Michigan.

I have been to all Iowa's home and road games for the past 15 years now. I know football.

I was thoroughly much more impressed with Penn State last weekend. The PSU team speed and strength versus Iowa's was night and day.

No where near the same difference between Michigan and Iowa in those key areas.

I also like your QB far more than Michigan's.

I know we were pelted by PSU on the road and beat Michigan in Iowa City, but fundamentally, PSU was just the better team when comparing PSU and Michigan. Not sure what happened in the UM-PSU game in Ann Arbor earlier this year, but think on a neutral field the Nittany Lions win.

I hope you guys win out. I mean this sincerely: The absolute best fans in the Big 10, my favorite road trip, are Penn State fans and the trip to State College. Amazingly gracious people as a fan base. Never lose that please. Took both my boys out this year with me because it's such a tremendous experience. Go get 'em Lions!"

They just hate us! Lol.

I have been to games all over the place and to say that game was the same as others is patently false. That scene before the game had some of the most vile comments and incidents. The buildup had a few factors IMO

The ability to drink much longer

The state of PA comment from Franklin

The flipping of recruits the year before

Rutgers thinking they would win.

It was a very intense scene . If you really think it was not a big deal you either are a homer and will never admit wrong doing or dont understand common decency. After that game your school was blasted by all the press and the big ten. It was a joke. But more power to the tough guys in the thread that use Pedd State or if someone says something I'll finish it blah blah blah. There is no need for a repeat and highly doubtful it will happen.

No, it's just us being overly sensitive. That type of behavior is completely normal and how all visiting fanbases are treated everywhere in college football.

2 years ago my son and I were parked and some PSU fans pulled up and parked near us. I said hello and they responded "are you ready for an a$$ whipping? or something like that). I shook my head and never said another word to them.

Want me to extrapolate that into the PSU visiting fan mass? (I won't . it wouldn't be fair)

Guys sitting by me said they went to PSU game last year and found your fans to be great. But stop with the high and mighty "We Are just all wonderful and you're not stuff"

I respect your team, I don't like your fans. But I'll hang and enjoy any good fan regardless. (at least 1 will be at our tailgate) I wish we could hold up our end of the deal cause it would be one hell of a rivalry.

You said it, and used the "aw shucks" my PSU friends had a blast canard. But it's ok for you to be anecdotal.

I get it: you hate PSU. It's so obvious in your posts. You look for things to validate that. It's called confirmation bias and it's a fallacy. It doesn't mean that we aren't well respected and travel well and treat others well. Only in your head does this "PSU is the worst this or that" reality exist. We've been doing this big-time college football thing for a long while now. That eats at you for some reason.
We also have a-holes like everyone else. But don't pretend 2 years ago was normal or acceptable.

Anyway, back to the boys at State College. According to ESPN, Penn State police reported 397 incidents in 2008, 62 percent of which involved alcohol. That's more than double the estimated 177 incidents in 2006. Over those three years, the highest number, 101 incidents, came on Oct. 27, 2007, during a game against Ohio State.

Behavior at the 2005 game wasn't great either. And we're certainly not proud of the behavior outside the frat house in 2007 , which saw OSU fans bombarded with cans.

then there were these awesome shirts about Sandusky being innocent....i mean not as vile as a flag.

: a group of fans so vile that the university had to adopt a resolution denouncing “negative cheering” all the way back in 2000. Loophole: They didn’t tell the kids not to throw stuff! Thus students from the Princeton Review’s 2010 top party school have pelted visiting players and band members with snowballs, mud balls, and bottles of urine. Lacking projectiles during the 2008 riots that followed a win over Ohio State, Penn fans uprooted small trees to hurl at police. And let’s not forget the notorious 2007 incident in which a crowd of onlookers cheered as a student chased down two OSU fans and threw a full can of beer at their heads. Video of that assault was proudly posted on YouTube, tagged as ‘comedy.’ “

Those guys were dicks obviously and you were right to ignore them. Did they assault you? Spit on you? Make you or your sons feel unsafe? What they did is normal fandom assholery. What many PSU fans experienced is not.

This isn't hard. If more people acted the way you do it wouldn't be an issue. This thread was started by the biggest Rutgers fan in the world, who also happens to understand and have experienced other college football environments.

Just take ownership of YOUR fans behavior and stop making excuses. Why is this so difficult for you?

from another article

Let’s be clear – long before the Sandusky scandal, Penn State fans had a bad reputation. There are plenty of stories that involve absurd cheers, projectiles, and, yes, urine-filled balloons. This year, Ohio State players accused Nittany Lions fans of blowing air horns outside their hotel the night before their game.

Just take ownership of YOUR fans behavior and stop making excuses. Why is this so difficult for you?
there it is. Typical PSU deflection. I took ownership of a sign. Now you take ownership of everything I posted
pelting OSU fans with fiull beer cans
urine filled balloons and water bottles
snowballs
iceballs
you gonna own up?

In 2005, Penn State students bombarded the Ohio State band with so many projectiles, including balloons filled with urine, that the band did not make the trip two years later.

If I ever see an RU fan do anything like that to anyone I would (at least) say something to them. Not acceptable.

The guy starting this thread also has the rep of being just a tad over the top, out there, and the source of many an eye roll (as well as being a super fan) LOL.

Maybe the title should have been .."show class and be respectful"...the thought of being "nice" to PSU fans may have been the fuse here

Dude you are clueless. And you fancy yourself as some kindof intellectual around here, correct? The Lafayette grad cheering for his state's school?

I've been to every single big 10 stadium for a PSU game (except technically Byrd). I've been treated and acted well and PSU fans are welcomed everywhere we go. I'm sorry this pains you so much.

Rutgers overall was treated incredibly well last year at PSU. It was posted over and over on this very board. You will be next year too.

Good luck Saturday.
so you are saying these are all lies? they didn't happen? OSU didn't keep their band home because of the way they were treated at Beaver stadium? Oh and it's pretty creepy that you would know where I went to school when you only come around trolling once a year. Just that should tell you all you need to know about your cult

You either get it or you don't. This was about one game. I have been to 50 games or so. I have never seen anything close to that scene. Every game and fan base has idiots. This was not about the few morons. This was something more and much worse. There is no need to go back and forth on this because people won't agree. However ,Google is our friend and you can go back to multiple news articles regarding what happened at that game. The Big Ten actually made a statement. If it was so normal show me where they comment about other fan's behavior. It was a bad day and as I said before I'm sure it won't happen again.

You don't think our lovely Newark Star Ledger had anything to do with making a big (and bigger) deal out of it? I'll never say it wasn't an intense situation or had more bad behavior than normal. I would agree it was. But I also think there were this blown out of proportion and over-reacted to by the local guys who love to hate on RU.

This will be nothing like then. 1) many Ru won't be there and 2) we have nothing to stand on. I think we should just have the tailgates and forfeit the game and have a concert we can all enjoy.

Well at least a slight few over 60% of the Rutger's respondent's here have some class. The other's need a little tweaking. Guess they will never grow up. Sad. But just as in the election this past week if you don't win and don't accept the outcome with grace, then there is little hope. Referring to the Penn St. as ped st. is a joke. Holding everyone in the community accountable for one man's crime is sad. Are Hillary supporter's guilty as well for her documented alleged crimes. No. And I didn't support her.

You are using an individual experience to paint everything with a broad brush. It's a futile and silly argument. I can point to equally disgusting behavior by PSU fans when they visited two years ago, but it would be pointless. Get over it and get over yourself.

It's not worth it. "I know you are but what am I" and Pedd State. From adults.

Unreal.

LOL. Troll comes over and trolls. Tries to then take the high road at Pedd State references.

Maybe you'll explain for us how it never happened and Joe was a saint too?

Maybe take your earlier banned persona and this new one's 55 posts and go eat a bag of dicks.

Yep. This thread is Exhibit A in why the entire rest of the B1G regrets letting this fanbase in...

LOL. Every B1G fan I've spoken to outside of UM says you're the second worst fan base in the B1G - at UM you're #1.

Please.

Remember Pedd State - Football above all else!

Again, I didn't create Jerry Sandusky any more than you created Ray Rice. I know why you have to go there as it's the only thing you have to hold on to. I don't speak for RU fans as I grew up in NJ and they were as easy to spot as the Jersey Devil until Schiano showed up. Then they crawled out from under their rocks and now are heading back there....enjoy that shade. You're the type of a-hole that I love....have fun Saturday night.

See, the mistake you're making here is about "caring".

We don't.

RutgersAl started this stupid thread about "be nice to Penn State fans". He does that sometimes. It's part of his charm.

But as to the substance of the thread, it's basically this:

We feel no reason to be nice to Penn State fans. We're not "holding on" to anything. This is our board, you're here, gesticulating wildly that you be heard and taken seriously and whatnot.

You're a Penn State fan. That makes you a worm. Go away.

JS has no idea how important he is to our opponents' fans. Even though none of you likely have ever donated a second of your time and money to the cause of child abuse, somehow you have all decided that each and every person associated with the university is as guilty as he was. That's not a whole lot different than deciding that every citizen of Dallas was guilty of assassinating JFK in 1963, but whatever. If bashing us thru JS makes you all feel better about yourselves, so be it.

They treated us so well when we visited. The least we can do is reciprocate. I felt embarrassed the last time Penn State visited Rutgers.

Hearing F Penn State was disgusting and showed a lack of class.

Penn State week is the week where I remember that football is not that important and I'm ok with that.
