POLL: For Current Season Ticket Holders - What are you going to do?

Are you implying that JH is just a figurehead?
Sure, she would love to have funding if anyone would be generous enough to write the check.
However, the SL has so much influence that their negativity has made her powerless?
Isn't the AD supposed to raise funds to better the program?
What are we paying her for if she is incapable of carrying out the most important function of an AD?
In summary, it seems we have an AD that for multiple reasons is unable to raise funds, a coach who appears not to have the tools to recruit, and substandard facilities in comparison to our B1G rivals.
Is there any question as to why a large percentage of the diehards are either not renewing or dropping seats?
Another year of being left out of March madness.

Of course an AD is supposed to raise money, but it isn't as if the Rutgers AD position exists in a vacuum. There needs to be a certain level of support from an administration to take a complete dumpster fire, a department that was neglected pretty much for its entire history, until Schiano showed that there is an interest in higher-level athletics, to another level. I don't blame/begrudge anyone for dropping their tickets, but to say that it's all the AD's fault is akin to saying that poor recruiting was Flood's fault when he wasn't given the budget to hire coaches and didn't even have a contract in hand. Recruits look at all of that when considering where to go. But there were many singing the mantra, "What else is the coach's job if not to recruit?" How is he supposed to recruit when there wasn't equipped to make it happen? Employees have to be equipped to do their jobs, and our AD is not adequately equipped.

There are roughly 3,000 new alumni donors who aren't being taken care of adequately because Barchi doesn't see the benefit to increasing the AD's budget to hire a few new people to work with these donors. It's a vicious cycle that will eventually end, or at least mitigate, when the BTN $ comes in. Barchi could jumpstart this process by investing in the athletics department, but he was either given a mandate by the BOG or Christie to not direct funds there. The antagonism towards athletics in this culture makes turning this broken-down ship around hard, and Julie, like Tim, might be the lightning rod for things not going well, but as an employer myself, if I don't equip my employees to do their jobs well it's only proper for me to take the blame. Barchi should be ashamed of himself at this point for allowing something that represents the university to fall into such disrepair. Like it or not, football and men's basketball are the most visible aspects of a university, and help or hurt brand the university to the broader market. His shortsightedness directly impacts our AD's ability to do a job well. It's not enough to say about our AD, "it's your job to do X," then not equip or support her in that role.

IMO, the fans' frustration is largely a product of expecting things to turn around merely be having gotten into the B1G, when that was only the tip of the iceberg that would ultimately reveal the state of neglect our programs had labored under for over a century. The political malaise that is NJ is being shown for what it is--any time there's money changing hands anywhere, grubby people want to control it rather than help the process along.

I would be remiss in pointing out that the very second you, RUfan1979, drop your season tickets, is the very second that the team turns it around. I'm thinking of starting a blog/website devoted to this very subject. The domain name is yet to be decided, but current options are:

24yearsandIstoppedcounting.com
anyonehaveanextraticket.net
lovewhattheyvedonetotheplace.org

Who knew you wielded such power and influence? ;-)

Excellent post.
I would vote for "24yearsandcounting.com"

One additional comment.
The athletic department knows the product stinks.
It still is better filling up the RAC with
fans including the student section as opposed to playing in front of empty seats and rival fans.
It's a business and when business is bad it becomes necessary
to provide an incentive or discount in order to sell your product.
It is sad to watch many of my fellow fans disappear.
Maybe Rutgers marketing can find a way to keep season ticket holders
while we wait for things to turn.

You're a good man, Charlie Brown. Better yet, you're a good fan, Charlie Brown.

Coming soon: follow this developing story at: www.youreagoodfancharliebrown.org

They should consider giving season ticket holders an additional prioriity point for every consecutive year they purchased tickets without an NCAA appearance. They lose them the day the team makes the Big Dance. We could call it the Big Dunce priority point scheme.

Giving additional priority points for bball season-ticket holders is actually a pretty good gesture and wouldn't cost the department anything. I kinda like this idea the more I think about it.

I am renewing. I'm always going to stick by the program but I will admit sometimes its nearly impossible with the product they put on the floor. I wouldn't blame anyone for not renewing.

I DO however blame the season ticket holders that put their tickets on stubhub every game. Its bad enough watching our guys get spanked in conference play. It's even worse sitting next to their fans and having the away contingent be louder than us in our own building. That part i just can not take.
