Possible next coach name I was told

Duffy, Chelsea and Carla Berube are the most likely candidates in that article and don't know if Clara would leave Princeton after only one year
Duffy's at a basketball school in a major conference, so she might not feel its a step up coaching RU
Chelsea an obvious choice, unless Hobbs wants to stay away from candidates with a Stringer connection.
But Newton knows RU,she played for and was an assistant under CVS and probably would be a great bridge between the past and future of RU WBB in my opinion
Doesn't hurt that Chelsea is considered a rising star in the WBB coaching ranks

.Reiss of Rhode Island might be a possibility, but should be considered a long shot behind the 3 I posted about in this reply.
As for article, just a list adding some who won't come with a few possibilities and some no chance.at all.
Verry disapointing list as ar as I'm concerned

Read Chelsea already has a reputation as a great recruiter. Seems like a really good option. Think it would be a perfect tribute to CVivs legacy to have one of her disciples, who has proven she can coach at this level, take the helm.

Still hearing choice number 1 is banghart. I’m sure whatever package is being offered would at least make her think about it.
North Carolina is paying her around $730,000, so that should be fairly easy to beat now that all financial obligations to Stringer is supposed to be settled..
The question is: does Courtney want to leave the Tar Heels and will they be willing to renegotiate Banghart's contract to a figure that makes her want to stay.

If Courtny does get the job she'll be replacing a 1000 win HC like she did at North Carolina when she replaced Sylvia Hatchell and another one with a controversial ending at the school.

It needs to be a current head coach…nothing against Chelsea, but Rutgers should not be someone’s first ever coaching spot…period.

I mostly agree with you. But she was an assistant here and player, so has some familiarity with the challenges, so I think she might be an exception. Agree with you on just about anyone else. From what I’ve read, it seems like she has the skills to be a really successful head coach.

They should just get rid of the program. It’s been a money pit for years. Use the scholarships for a womens wrestling program.

It’s not like they have some big following. No one goes to the games.
The comparison must be to other WBB programs. I feel like when Rutgers was decent before this year, our crowds at women's games were better than a lion's share of other WBB programs.

That aside, it's just silliness to advocate getting rid of the most successful Rutgers sports program over the past 25 years.

Title 9 says no to getting rid of the womens basketball program along with the fact it was the most successful athletic program at Rutgers for many years.

They’ve underperformed for years and stringer left the program in shambles. The next coach has their work cut out for them.

anyone saying WBB should be dropped because it's losing money , better look at all the sports doing the same and maybe want every sport that doesn't show a profit ( men or women) to get the ax.

As for being in shambles right now, disarray might be a better description, because of the LOA and extensions ( because of possible health issues) added that kept Stringer from coaching.

CVS built a program that still is highly respected and Hobbs will be able to quickly hire a quality HC to take over because RU WBBis still a highly respected program built on a solid foundation that started with Theresa and strengthened by Vivian

Last year was an abomination without CVS , but the years before that were NCAA Tourney years under Stringer.

Fan attendance has been dreadful the last 6 years not including covid

We had season tix for women’s basketball for about 9 years before we moved West in 2016. There were quite a number of games that were sell outs or near sellouts, especially against UConn, Louisville, and the numerous OOC ranked teams that CVS scheduled. There were years when the women outdrew the men, particularly during the Littlepage years. They used to schedule doubleheaders to get people to come to the mens games. I think with the right hire and a winning team the interest will build back again to a point where they may average at least 3-5K a game.

It’ll be a quick rebuild with the right coach. It’s still a very successful brand that still attracts talent, not a program that needs to wash decades of stink off of it. Facilities are awesome and the court these young women will play on is tied to the legacy of a legend. This program won’t be down for very long.

Whoever it is, it should be done in about 2 weeks. Pikiell does not take long. Filled by May 15 at the very latest.

And the local recruiting ground, between NJ, NYC, and Philly, is filled with basketball talent.

Good point. A solid hire should keep the pipeline moving and we should be back at the top of the B1G in a couple of years.

Doubt RU pays $3 million for a WBB Coach.
I agree, but here's what I'm hoping for, Choppin. I'm hoping that Hobbs, whose heart is in basketball, can make the argument that the difference between an OK coach and a home run hire is in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. If we spend a few bucks on WBB, we can be back in race again quickly.

The talent that came to Rutgers was to play for Stringer moreso than Rutgers. It will be interesting to see how well a new head coach can recruit top tier talent without the same name recognition as Stringer.

We have two 3rd place finishes and 2 5th place finishes since joining. That’s top 1/3 in 4 out of the 7 seasons we’ve been here.

you’re a Fraud on this board here and everyone knows it. Go away

We have never challenged for a Big 10 title regular or post season..fact

Or hired because she "seems" like she could be good or because she would be a tribute to CVS.

Definitely on a future short list if needed and she shows those skills.

Agreed - but the incoming coach will have facilities and university commitment to the program, something CViv didn’t have for most of her tenure.

Whoever takes over will be taking over a program where the last two coaches are in the Hall of Fame. Lots of pressure. Needs to be a high profile coach

this is the problem for the next coach, Rutgers was not engrained in Jersey players mind, Rutgers didnt court New Jersey nor was the outreach from CVS and her assistants during the last 10 years anything to write home about.

Good point.

It definitely wouldn't hurt to have that name recognition on top of those other selling points. That's why I would consider a K. Toliver or Lindsay Harding. They played in the WNBA and may have an advantage at getting elite talent to come with them.

Could you imagine if K. Toliver was hired and brought Angel Reese to RU and kept Liz and Sakima here in Piscataway??!

My list in order of preference:
1) C. Berube- along w) some of her #19 ranked recruiting class
2) K. Toliver or Lindsay Harding
3) Banghart
4) Shereka Wright
5) Chelsea Newton
6) worth looking into??- Berube's Assistant Coaches, Dalila Esche or Lauren Batista

I could be wrong but I don’t think Toliver or Harding have ever been a HC or a college coach in any capacity. If that is true, I don’t want them.
