Looking at the past it is obvious how this will go......

Loss at Wisconsin by 12
Loss at home to Michigan by 8

Complete utter meltdown. Every other thread is about whether we will either make the NIT or accept a bid

Win at PSU
Win at Minnesota
Win at home vs NW

Loss 1st round of B1G

We are sweating Selection Sunday thinking we are probably in but worried about Dayton. We get the last seed not going to Dayton.

Don't know how the rest goes

Can't remember who posted it, but you know Pike is livid and we're gonna come out with a wild defensive effort on Saturday. It is going to be an UGLY game. Like SHU this year ugly.

Wisconsin: W
Michigan: W
PSU: L as we start to get high on our headlines again
Minnesota: W
NW: L

First Round B1G: W

Safely in the field. Not in Dayton

I think Michigan is going to be the first opportunity to "right the ship".

Going out to Wisconsin right now, as we're still trying to figure out how to get the pieces to fit together, is likely going to still be a fair amount of experimentation and trying new things that have been worked in practice, and I just don't think it will have come together by then, especially on the road.

Home vs. Michigan will be the fifth game without Mag, with almost 3 weeks worth of practice time working in new rotations and concepts. They are a tough test, but it's possible that we've figured a few things out by then on how to function better. Hopefully that coincides with Michigan not being on fire.

Win the rest of the regular season games, and 1-2 in B1G Tournament

Wisconsin will be hyped for this home game. Their program well known for coming up big during stretch runs. They need this W as much as Rutgers. Can a Mag-less Rutgers get the job done in Madison? Also, Gard may be fighting for coaching job in this final stretch.

Let’s start with Wisconsin. We win and we’re ok. A loss and all of a sudden we are in 10th place in the conference with a Michigan game and a Penn St team that would likely only be one game back of us pre Michigan game.

Imagining the Penn st game could be a de facto 11th place game is sickening.

Hell if Nebraska were to beat Maryland and then Minnesota the result of the PSU could actually put us in 12th and 2-1 against 13th and 14th teams.

Huge stretch coming up.

I think 11-10 in the big ten witha 19-13 raexord has us somewhat nervous , but not seating selection Sunday ….

The ride is a different story …as the meltdown on this board if we are 8-9 will be out of control

You and many others are overreacting to a bad game vs. a lights out Nebraska team. If we even get back to playing like we did at Indiana or Illinois we beat Wisconsin. No way I am writing off that game.

Except for the very best ones, most times have a bit of a slide at some point. Yours is happening now, and it happens to coincide (likely not by coincidence) with the loss of Mag. But I think it's not quite as bad as a lot of you do. Maybe because I'm not a fan, I see it with greater emotional distance and perhaps clarity.

I think you win at Wisconsin and against Michigan. Those teams are just not that good and I think the Nebraska loss will have a smelling salts effect on your team.

I see the game at Penn State as a loss. Of course, the Nits are no better than Wisconsin or Michigan, but I think they're tougher than that will count for something in this kind of game. You could win, though.

Losing to Minnesota would be inexcusable, but your team better show up. They have absolutely nothing to lose and I'm sure they'd like to claim a pelt before the season ends. But I can't see you losing that.

Home against Northwestern should be a good one and with all due respect to the Cats, I think you get that one, too. Too hard to predict Big Ten Tourney matchups, so I'll forego that. But I think you're 4-1, perhaps 3-2 over the last five, which would be all right.

Having said all that, I don't want to undersell the loss of Mag. He was really playing well on both ends and it had only recently occurred t me how important he was on both ends. But your team identity is all about suffocating defense, and that doesn't just go away as a group. If your team shows up, it will be in every game, Mag or not. You've not been a good offensive team at all, so while Mag's loss hurts there, too, I don't think the effect is as severe, especially once everyone adjusts to an altered role. It would be nice to find more open shots for Spencer, who is just not athletic enough to get his own, and I think the cumulative effect of him struggling athletically this whole season has worn him down to the point where he questions his shot even when he's open. But you've got to find him looks. Probably nothing you guys haven't thought of a hundred times already.

We are still in good shape despite the whoa is me crowd, and it starts @ Wisc

Rutgers(16-10)
Q1 4-6 Q2 3-2 Q3 2-2 Q4 7-0
Q1/2 7-8, 1/2/3 9-10

I predict 4-1 after the effort vs Nebraska, either lose a Q2 or Q1.
1 Q1 left, 3 Q2 left, 1 Q4 left
Either 4-7, 6-2, 2-2, 8-0 or
5-6, 5-3, 2-2, 8-0, finish 20-11

Can't see in any scenario we lose @ Minnesota.
3 of 4 Q1 wins won't disappear, @ Purdue, @ NW, vs #18 Indiana. Vs #28 Maryland being a Q1 or Q2 won't change much.

@ 77 Wisconsin(15-10) is 3-2 last 5, trading wins and losses won their last game, after losing 6 of 7, only 8-4 at home

Vs 72 Michigan(14-12), has lost 2 games in a row after winning 3 straight and has home game vs Mich St before our game, Michigan is 2-5 on the road.

@ 61 Penn St(15-11), lost 4 straight before winning at home vs Illinois, has b2b road games @ Minn and @ Ohio St before home game vs RU. 12-3 at home

@ 243 Minnesota(7-16), 1-12 and playing the season out.

vs 47 NW(19-7), 6-2 road record, vs Iowa, @ Ill, @ Md, vs Penn St, might have a bid locked up before our game, might not need this one.

I think it's sooo hard to bring that defensive intensity every single night over an entire winter, and when a team sees an unexciting opponent like Nebraska -- even one that clearly isn't much good -- it has a natural tendency to let down. And the Huskers happened to be ready to seize the opportunity, to their credit. I'd be surprised if you continue to see that. It was a good reminder of how much a defense-first team (especially one that is not good offensively -- this is not a secret, right?) has to bring that intensity to every game or things go south quickly.

Win at Wisconsin (9-7) 17-10
Exhale on the internet board

Win Michigan (10-7) 18-10
Jubilation again will have internet board thinking deep March run again

Loss at Penn state (10-8) 18-11
Board meltdown again at a possible collapse

Win at Minnesota (11-8) 19-11
Close win will have board Concluding we are one and done

Win Northestern (12-8) 20-11
Close win at home clinches Andy Katz prediction of a top 4 seed

Rematch with Northestern on Friday at 230 pm

I love how everyone is able to double down.
We went from “we’re gonna crush Nebraska” to “We match up better against Wisconsin. Pike is gonna have them playing great d.”
Love the optimism guys. I just don’t see it.
I said we’d go 3-3 the final six and was ripped apart. Just hoping for the best at this point

Same. I will be a couple rows behind RU bench this Saturday, but I am not getting my hopes up. Hopefully these guys come to ball. They need this W. This whole "we can afford to lose 4th straight" is absolute nonsense.

In short, we can win or lose any/each of the remaining games. It's come to that.
5-0? Highly unlikely.
4-1? Unlikely.
3-2? Most likely.
2-3? Likely.
1-4? Unlikely
0-5? Highly unlikely.

agree with this. Confidence is an issue. A win at Wisconsin is incredibly important to take the pressure off the rest of the season. Seeing that they can step up and win is important to closing out the season. Wisconsin is in the last 8 in last 4 out grouping so its still beating a tournament quality team and besides Northwestern is the 2nd best of our remaining 5 games.

More general prediction.

1 rebound win after hitting rock bottom. Pure guts win.
Maybe Wisc? Dunno

1 win where we catch someone with an off shooting night.

1 win where we look like we finally figured it out post Mag.

Just hoping all those things aren’t the same game and it’s three different ones.

I think it is very important that they turn it around in Wisconsin. They have to get back to defense and rebounding with the players that we have. Mag is a big loss on the defensive end. And he was playing his best basketball overall when he was her. His offensive rebounding will also be missed. But the guys we have left have to step up..

Paul needs to look for his shot more. He is capable of taking over games. It's crunch time. Paul is a captain. Stop dishing and start swishing.

Fans are not pleased. That I can tell you. There is a FireGard movement. Not pleased with talent of late. I don't care one way or other, just gauging sentiment in the state.

This team is now where I thought they’d be w/o Ron & Geo. Don’t expect much the rest of the way. Will not be surprised if watching the dance

Green -

I can't argue with these predictions overall -- 3-2 seems about right, but not sure where the W's and L's come. The team certainly seems to have hit a wall. In addition to losing Mag - a very big blow - I think the team is experiencing the fatigue you expressed concerned about early in the season from playing the starters too many minutes on a team that exerts so much energy on defense in order to succeed.

3 and 2, (at Wisconsin, Michigan, Northwestern only because it’s home)
1 win BIG Tournament,
10 seed NCAA. First round bounce.

1-4 most likely with our win coming when someone lays an egg.

The Mag loss has destroyed our defense. We’ve proven we can still score as long as we feed hyatt and simpson. But I just don’t see how we stop anyone in this league right now, even Minny who you know will eviscerate us from 3 at their place.
