Props to Myles Johnson

Can't really be giving props to Myles if you're dissing Paul. I don't know your feelings about Paul, but vast majority on here think he's a traitor. Watch him wind up on IU!
Myles left to go closer to home and one of the best graduate engineering programs. He didn’t go for money nor make a 11th hour decision. Not even close to Paul.

Wrong. First off, perceived quality of grad degree is non-factor. We don't even know where Paul is going yet, and anyway, that's irrelevant. Second, the real reason Myles left was because someone was taking his job - Cliff. Same with Paul. Very similar cases.

And to your point that Paul (and Cam) left late, they played the hoops market smart. Their NIL value probably doubled by waiting until only grad students were still on market. Notice they both did same thing. While it's bad for Rutgers, they played it the most economically beneficial way for them, and no one can criticize that. If anyone is to blame, it is the new NIL system, to which Rutgers led the charge.

WTF is wrong with you and some other "fans." Why can't we have a happy thread without it getting derailed? If you want to discuss something else, start your own thread. Holy smokes, do we have some sad sacks for fans.

Congrats to Myles.

Myles cost us a Sweet 16 birth. Just saying. Paul cost an NCAA birth last year. Though to Paul's credit, we wouldn't have made NCAAs in '21-22 without his outrageously good play in February '22 against like 5 ranked teams straight.

Myles is Myles, Paul is Paul their respective paths have nothing to do with each other. Both of them have done what they thought was best for them. I respect what they contributed, they are both gone wish them luck in their future endeavors, but at this point they are both non factors relative to RU basketball.

Congratulations Myles! Looking forward to see what he does next in life. We definitely haven't heard the last from him.
More on Myles. He went home to get his Master's degree and to be close to his family. This is not a put down of Rutgers, but UCLA is far ahead of Rutgers in national rankings. It was a smart move all around for Myles. He was not interested in pursuing basketball beyond his last year at UCLA. Smart young man.

Honest question…..do the ‘vast’ majority’ on here think Paul is a traitor. ? He did what he felt he had to do in today’s world. If he comes back as a spectator in a few years, I think the vast majority of people at the RAC would applaud him. Just curious, not passing judgement on anyone’s opinion.

It is a terrific academic achievement for Myles absolutely worth transferring for, but it can also be true that he partly left for the same reason Paul left…diminished role.

He played poorly there for the most part, coach completely dissatisfied and was only an afterthought toward the end.

So, it’s not true to suggest he went there only for the masters and to willingly be a scrub. That was not by choice.

Your worst take ever. Myles was a backup at UCLA.

And left a year of eligibility on the table to focus on his academics.

And then only reason he ended up at RU following his hs knee injury was our top 50 engineering program.

I’m also not terribly upset with Paul, he gave us his 4, let him cash in.

Don’t think you were watching the same team I was. Myles was the backbone of the team - played much poorly when he was on the bench due to fouls, including an epic collapse to tOSU (same game JY took the hard fall after flying near the basket and came down awkwardly). If there was a criticism of Myles game, it was that he couldn’t stay out of foul trouble.

I was speaking of his UCLA year. Started early due to the C’s injury but by the end Cronin was outspoken about his poor play and he hardly played at all. Was a decent player for us, limited offensively. At UCLA he was not at all useful and rode the bench. Didn’t even use his last year of eligibility there. Was simply bad.

Myles was a back-up at UCLA, but made his mark, >he wound up splitting playing time with fellow fifth-year post player Cody Rile <(who averaged 7.3 points and 3.9 rebounds in 21.6 minutes per game)

>Johnson played in all 35 of the Bruins' contests this past season, making 15 starts and averaging 3.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game. Those numbers, and Johnson's overall impact on UCLA's interior defense, helped him earn a spot on the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team at the conclusion of the regular season.<
>That honor was nothing new for the 6-foot-10 big man, who earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Defensive Team in 2021. Across his final two seasons with the Scarlet Knights, Johnson averaged 7.9 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game.<

Man, I'm noticing a theme with you sir. Some people don't understand the idea of being a positive individual and how it can change your life. I find it easier to give examples of a person that is constantly giving off negative energy. Idk you but I know for a fact your life would be so much better if you looked on the bright side of things. Life will always bring a storm, easier to get through them when you remember the sun will rise again. Life is Kind of like shooting, if you focus on the misses you will keep missing them or never shoot them. When you think you're going to make every shot because of how confident you are in your hard work, that's when the game becomes easy..

What a bunch of baloney.. The problem at UCLA was primarily that Myles would rarely shoot.. He'd usually kick it back outside after getting an offensive rebound, and UCLA wasn't shooting well from outside late in February, so Cronin started to play Cody Riley more for hopefully more inside offense. But Myles was still a better rebounder and defender than Cody Riley was.

"At UCLA he was not at all useful and rode the bench", "Was simply bad"....
So let me get this straight... You're saying that Myles was not at all useful to UCLA and rode the bench there because he was so bad, but yet he made the Pac 12 All Defensive first team... That's an interesting take on things. (Shaking my head..)

Pac 12 All-Defensive Team

Jaylen Clark, UCLA
Jaime Jaquez Jr., UCLA
Myles Johnson, UCLA
Christian Koloko, Arizona
Dalen Terry, Arizona
Honorable mentions: Efe Abogidi, Washington State; Evan Battey, Colorado; Marreon Jackson, Arizona State; Spencer Jones, Stanford; Franck Kepnang, Oregon; Isaiah Mobley, USC

I don’t blame paul for various reasons but the timing of his decision sucked = possibly to Rutgers detriment

vs

Everyone pretty much knew months in advance that Myles was likely to transfer = ru had months to react

Thus paul and Myles = 🍎 🍊

Plus, the reasons differ: (Myles - close to home + academics) vs (paul - playing time + possible NIL reasons) also make the two situations 🍎 🍊

There is simply no comparison between Myles and Paul’s decisions

If someone wants to make a point that RU fans are being hypocritical I think a better comparison is paul and cam as both were same timing wise - ie both decisions kinda f$&ked RU.

So I dont blame people for being mad at paul like they were at cam

But, personally, I give paul much more of a pass as he gave RU 4 years and I could understand his decision more (playing time and role were likely to change) whereas as cam just left for the $$ (he was going to be a focus of the offense again so there was no playing time/role issue). He SOLELY left for the $$ and he was a 1 year mercenary for us anyway - so f’ cam

I was sorry to see him go, but I don't consider him a "traitor". He did what he thought was best for himself at this time.

Myles missed a bunny that cost us Sweet 16....over Houston too. And he couldn't make a free throw to save his life. Seemed like a good guy and all but not quite sure why all the love for Myles. In the end, he left RU because he wouldn't be starting. Same as Paul. There were some other factors at play in their respective stories, but at end of the day, they weren't good enough to start on Rutgers anymore.

Stop making up outright lies
That is not why he left

It’s amazing that clowns like you make up false narratives in your mind and post them as the truth

Maybe it's better to ride the pine at UCLA than Rutgers. I don't know. Once he left RU, I honestly paid little attention to his last year at UCLA. But he wasn't gonna start at Rutgers over Cliff. Frankly, besides blocking shots, he was mostly just a foul machine. Paul probably contributed more to the team over his career than Myles did. Without Paul, we don't make Tournament previous year.
