When was the last season where RU played four of the top eight teams in the country ?
This has to be the roughest schedule ever for RU. Uncharted territory.
Yeah, I know. Frank Burns would have kicked butt with a schedule like 2016.

Obviously the schedule was brutal, but a lot of people complained when we had brutal crossovers the first two years. That lightened up, and we're winless in conference play. Not to mention the fact that the entire Big Ten East had to play three of those four teams, and none of them were shut out all three times -- and throw in a brutal loss to a team that was winless in the Big Ten going in.

Schedule would have been painful no matter how good we were, but the fact remains we were historically bad against it. Not "struggled against," not "beaten up by it," but bad as in hounds of hell, apocalypse is here bad.

With scores like we've seen this year, I just don't want to hear about how tough the schedule was. It just adds to the perception we don't belong here.

Maryland has played about the same schedule as us and has had a better time of it. If they beat us this week, they will get their six wins and go to a bowl game. Like it or not, we are being compared to them, and they are pulling ahead, both on the field as well as in recruiting. We were actually better than them only a year or two ago. I can't believe we have arrived at our present situation, I just can't.

Maryland played Nebraska (without Armstrong) and Purdue in conf and FIU and UCF OOC, going 3-1. Rutgers played UNM, Washington, Iowa and Illinois going 1-3.

In games vs common opponents they beat MSU early in the season whereas RU got whipped badly. Results vs OSU, Mich, Minn, Indiana, PSU,and Howard are pretty similar. Both teams went 1-5 with a couple of blowouts thrown in so in the "same schedule" there was only one real difference.

I don't think a reasonable person would find a whole lot of difference between 1-6 and 2-5.
