From my rage research, and given the talk about how pike deserves infinite rope because of RU’s past, a couple of fun stats

*In the KenPom era*

Pikiell has now lost consecutive conference home games by 12+ points in three-straight seasons. That has happened one time in Rutgers history, sort of, a five-year stretch between 2007-11.

Pikiell is at risk of losing three consecutive home conference games by 12+ points in a single season. that’s happened just twice in Rutgers history, predictably during the 2016 Eddie Jordan season and in an acutely bad Fred Hill year.

While Pike might be the most successful coach of that era, he’s neutered the RAC in recent years in a way only few have managed

I mean the general consensus I’ve read Richie, trilly, etc is pikes seat is colder than cold and he’ll be at Rutgers as long as he wants
Whenever coaches start to get votes of confidence it's usually the beginning of the end.

All do respect his seat the rac and everything he touches is on fire! He’s done! Every excuse used to justify his bad coaching and performance is gone and he is having his worst performance and tracking for the worst in NCAA college basketball history! Pike RIP

We can't afford to fire him and he doesn't even currently have a boss lol

The contract basically guarantees him 2-3 more years and he has earned that with his rebuild here.
What rebuild!? Did I miss the rebuild? I know we had a 2 year stretch helped belt Covid. Since then the program has been dying and fast. All of the excuses were first talent, then injury, then wait for Ace and Dylan. Well we did and we are the laughing stock of all CBB. Next year I don’t think we will be able to field a roster with what stays.

So our philosophy is we know he has been bad, we know this is the most embarrassing year ever, we know next year will be worse. So, let’s let him stay to ruin the program more? Big conference big money. Pike should be gone now

Exactly. I’d argue the rebuild stopped 2-3 years ago.

You can’t just decide his seat is on fire lol. He could go 1-27 but if the administration doesnt exist/doesn’t want to fire him he’s not on the hot seat.

The days of “earning that” are over. He’s making 3.2 million to produce this mess. If he was in the corporate world, he would have been given a severance package or worse. I believe his salary also goes up each year. He’s a stand-up guy so I’m sure he’s embarrassed but if he wasn’t he’d be laughing at us. This mindset is what keeps the bar incredibly low at this program.

Earned it may have been the wrong term. But what I mean is he has earned respect as a quality coach. There are not a ton of quality coaches that could or would step into this job. If you let him go, you better damn be sure you have the right replacement. There is zero chance that is happening with no president and no AD. So I will say it again… he has 2 years at minimum to fix it. He’s a good coach and I expect him to get it done.

I think the notion that Rutgers is an undesirable job is outdated too, especially after revenue sharing. Elite home-court, advantage, $$ to spend, low expectations, I think a lot of coaches would jump at that

I think he has one more season and the program won’t be able to tolerate the enormous drop in interest that I expect. They will agree to a buyout. Your opinion is different than mine. He has had a few very good seasons here but the parameters have changed drastically, which now emphasize his weaknesses. Most high school coaches in the country could do what he has done the past year.

It took a while at first for people to to realize what an absolute failure of a coach Jordan was, but once everyone did, it picked up momentum quickly. Granted, Jordan never had success here as a coach, but he made up for that by being a hero as a player here and a former NBA coach.

I didn’t say it was an undesirable job. Finding a proven quality coach (like Pike has already proven) is not easy. Many blue bloods fail at hiring coaches all the time and quality coaches have bad years. Pike’s buy out and proven abilities give him at least 2 years to get Rutgers back on track. BTW - last nights loss was a complete coaching failure and probably the most disappointing loss of the season in my opinion. Im not blindly following Pike but he will get a chance to fix this.

The fact that you think an average high school coach could do better and compared Pike to EJ, is enough for me. That’s absolute nonsense. We’ll never see things remotely similar.

I agree that we will not. And for the record, EJ was worse. EJ never had any success and Pike did (when the rules were different). Also, I said a high school can do the same as Pike this season…not better, although I’m sure some can. The only win that might have required decent coaching has been Penn State. We have zero impressive wins with two lottery picks and a bunch of transfers that he picked and sung their praises.

So… would it be better if he trash talked and mocked the transfers? Really?

As far as I’m concerned if we had the money (read that as shallow pocket fans) to retain Cliff to address our lane protection and rebounding needs, then we’re not having this conversation.

No, just don’t bs everyone. Nothing needed to be said…especially when it’s far from the truth every year.
