1. This game was lost when Dylan Harper got sick. Yes, Indiana was also without its best player (Reneau), but Dylan means WAY more to Rutgers than Reneau means to Indiana.

2. It was basically 1 on 5 with Ace Bailey carrying Rutgers and the rest of the Keystone Kops bumbling and fumbling their way. Ace was Clown Shoes tonight, but it didn’t matter. 39 points on 16-29 (4-8 from deep), plus 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. Just wow. (Side note: Why is Ace so bad at the line?!)

3. Of course Indiana shot well from deep tonight against Rutgers. Of course. 12-27 (44.4%) for a 30.8% team? Are you kidding me? We actually held them to 28-72 (39%) overall, but they hit threes and were able to push the lead. That stupid 40-foot heave that banked in at the halftime buzzer was a killer. Would’ve been a 4-pt halftime lead instead of 7. Makes a difference.

4. Oumar Ballo was a one-man wrecking crew on the boards (12 rebounds, including 7 on the offensive glass) and in defending the rim. He is like a vacuum cleaner when he gets anywhere near a rebound.

5. We got DESTROYED on the defensive glass tonight, giving up almost 20 offensive rebounds and 34 second chance points.

6. Martini, Hayes, and Derkack shot 0-10 from the field tonight, including 0-7 from 3-pt range. Look no further as to why our offense stalls out when Dylan and Ace aren’t scoring. Complete and utter dog crap from these portal additions.

7. 14-23 (61%) on FTs, but also missed a couple of front ends, just not helping the cause.

8. The season is not over from a technical standpoint, but it’s on life support. The real takeaway here is that the same deficiencies that we’ve seen all year — defense, rebounding, and third/fourth scoring options — are not getting better, and there’s very little hope that any of it will get better. Viewed in that lens, the season is very likely dead in the water.

Coaching lacking fundamentals for this team and no accountability when a player isntt producing.

Also sub management is still time based rather than on flow of game. Ace was on fire and we were up 7 and he takes him out. IU goes on a massive run at that point. These are kids…they can play through being winded.

Some players on our team need to be permanently benched. Again no accountability.

I liked that we played zone tonight and just another team who shot their career night at 3. If they shot their average we win this game

We won’t win when we don’t defensive rebound and give up 34 second chance points. Pike needs to focus practice on getting team to block out and crash the boards. Cut that in half and we win.

But we need five on the floor somehow. Literally no one has earned their playing time (excluding Ace and Dylan obviously).

Put me in coach

In all seriousness, not even letting Grant have any time tonight when Martini was awful is inexcusable

Your play on the court should have an impact on your minutes. If you aren't delivering, it's someone else's turn to get a shot

Who’s buried in Grants Tomb? Grant, apparently. Damn shame. Martini is just unwatchable.

If we benched all the players that fans want to bench we would need to field volunteers from the crowd. Scangg?

That said, I have no idea what he is doing with Martini.

#8

I cant get around this myself from tonight...it may not take a week or two weeks or even 3 weeks but the season is likely dead in the water. We are what we are. No brightsiding can change that.

Biggest 3 issues tonight for me were:

- Inability to box out and anticipate balls coming off the glass
- Goose egg on FGs (0-10) from Martini, Hayes and Dercack
- Missed free throws
- J Will completely out of control dribbling straight into defenders or falling off his feet as if he was ice skating

Oops that that 4.

The key to the game was our defense being so bad we had to play zone practically the entire second half. For as great as Ace was on offense he was that bad on defense
we made a bad offensive team into a sparkling one....there is no fixing our defense...there is no player coming to the rescue on the bench, there is nothing Pike can do to teach them...its done..it was done over the summer

That's the problem. In the transfer portal era can Pikiell mold his team around team defense with the constant roster turnover?

if you would have shown me just ace and dylan’s stats so far, I would be shocked at our record. It was always possible we could be here but it’s hard to believe we are where we are with 2 all B1G ten players, one of them in the conversation as the best player in college basketball. Hard to excuse what Pike put around these 2. Most of the time against big ten teams it feels like we will have 2 of the 3 best players on the court surrounded by 8-10. I’m still going to watch and hope but man is this disappointing

Our zone defense was pathetic. It's like we spent ten minutes on it in practice.

Pike continues to proudly wear the F he continues to earn

This entire coaching staff needs to fire themselves

How he can't even get this team to seem like they pretend to care about rebounding ( and many other things) is just beyond me.

I have no idea what this staff did in the offseason or what they do in between games. We know they do nothing during the games.

This staff is a disgrace...there's simply no other way to put it.

At this point you have to be doing a bit, right?

Victimizing the guy that just dropped 40 on efficient shooting is a hell of a hill to die on
He's not completely wrong though. Ace took 30 shots, was double and triple teamed and didn't finish with a single assist. That's very hard to do. I can't even think of more than one instance where he could have had one if everyone else wasn't inept.
