Both of them were drunk as all hell and his fiancee was going nuts on him at the time over something they were arguing over. He obviously made an egregious error but it was under heavy influence of alcohol.
As far as woke, I would say that's probably the wrong term for the anger over it. It's probably more a good lesson of why we shouldn't be getting ourselves so plastered to the point that one loses all self control and makes a life altering mistake that they'll never outlive.
I'm glad he is getting another chance. Outside of this mistake, he has always been a good guy off the field. Plenty of other players have done worse and never got blackballed like he did.
About effin' time. A Rutgers and NFL great who made a horrible mistake while drunk after his fiancee struck him and spit in his face, owned it, counseled others on the evils of domestic abuse and is still married to his wife ten years later.
And he loved Baltimore & the people there. Gave away back to school items & had a charity at Christmas.
Even named his daughter Raven.

The hypocrisy is that if the same situation occurred with a player from a different school most of you would have a problem with that player being honored.
Let's face it most of us have no idea if a person who did a bad thing in the past has taken steps to be better. We just decide if they deserve forgiveness-based on our own bias.
In this situation the team knows what Rice has done and it has nothing to do with pushing back on wokeness.
Clearly the team has empathy for him. I guess that makes them woke.
The leftist loon Jemele Hill said that she believes Rice has atoned for his sins on Twitter the other day. So if a woke lefty like ja-smell can forgive him, then that’s good enough for me

I sort of 'forgave' him soon after the incident when his fiance forgave him, she knew she had drank too much and was riding him pretty hard. But he took the bull by the horns and showed everyone that person was not who he was 1000X over with his public speaking and all the voluntary services to the community he has done. Not to mention the termination of his NFL career and the millions of dollars he lost.
