Realistic possibility we land zero NJ top 10 recruits

Pretty sure this new board allows a longer search.......let me guess, you never posted?

For the record, I predicted 8/9 wins (as you mentioned you can look that up) and I still don't believe in Flood. I made that prediction looking at the schedule and Rutgers/Opponents 2-Deep. This year I have us penciled in for 8 wins.

None of that changes the fact that the conference as a whole is trending upwards while Rutgers remains at best stagnant. Our best run of recruiting classes ever (recruited by schiano) were/are upperclassmen in Floods first two seasons in the B1G. Our talent is not improving while other programs are. That's really all there is to it. If you can't see the issues that lie ahead I don't know what more to say.

This is why hiring a big name coach with the ability to recruit would have been perfect timing after the 2013 season. That coach would be able to pitch a new fresh start, and would have been able to back it up after winning in year one in a down conference with Schianos talent. Unfortunately, we will not capitalize on that momentum and will have to start over after 2016.

And we could not afford or would not spend the mosny for that big name coach. If we had made a change we would have paid 1.5 and been guaranteed no better than what we have.

This thread is becoming less and less about Flood/Rutgers and more about some weirdo Butters guy pretending to be Nostradamus.

Non stop "I WILL BE RIGHT YOULL SEE" posts.

By the way that Einstein quote has 0 relevance with this discussion.

Its also trite, completely incorrect, and wasn't said by Einstein. But who's counting. It has to be one of the dumbest quotes thrown out by educated people on a regular basis.

I hope after this season those that have been ridiculing me will finally say wow I hate to admit it but Butters was right

So, you're actually hoping that RU has a terrible season so you can say "I told you so." We do have some interesting fans...

Exactly. That's the amazing thing, none of the "Flood lovers" or Kool aid drinkers are claiming the guy is Saban. I have zero allegiance to the guy, if he loses I'll want him gone. Will even donate to see it happen. However, he isnt losing as of know. He won 8 games and continues to show improvement in every aspect of coaching. I'm sorry but firing him to hire some up and comer for 1.5 million a year is silly. In two or three years we will know what we have and if we need a change we'll be much better financially. Also, despite the doom and gloom of him setting us back 10 years it's obvious he has not, if there is a next guy he won't be starting from the bottom.

The point is we missed the best opportunity this program has had to elevate it's program since Rutgers lucked into hiring Greg Schiano. I'm still hoping for Flood to succeed with all my heart but my head says otherwise. I will still tailgate my butt off every Saturday rooting for the R. Either way, that decision needed to be made and instead the opportunity was wasted.

So here we stand in 2015, able to pencil in the Ws, the non-competitive losses, and the tough yet, winnable conference games, with no real reason to expect to be surprised. And in 2016, even a weaker conference schedule won't be able to save us.

How do you know it won't be able to save us?

Where did you buy your magical crystal ball?

It wasn't the best opportunity.....we had no money. We would have spent 1.5 and ended up with a guy like Diaco. Who as of now isn't exactly lighting the world on fire and there is no guarantee he is any better than what we have. What we would have had it a guy locked into a contract that would be wanting to renegotiate right about now.

Clearly only my opinion. But I've had a minority opinion that has proven to be right thus far.

Right so far regarding what?

The fact that you predicted our win total last year?

Oooo...how bold of you...lol

Please stop. He didn't go 8-5 in the Big Ten. He went 3-5 in the Big Ten.
Really? He said our first year in the B1G (our record was 8-5. Perfectly accurate and understandable statement. Maybe you should stop twisting what people say to suit your own purpose.

Butters you're the worst kind of fan. You have wildly unrealistic recruiting expectations. You will be perpetually disappointed. Rutgers is in it for the long haul and I believe will get there eventually because of the BIG membership combined with our state history of great high school football. We all want the success to happen overnight but without a $5 million plus big name coach with an unlimited budget it is going to have to evolve. Yes the blowouts have to end. I believe that we will be much more competitive in the BIG games starting this season. Rutgers has NO big time tradition to market and our competition uses it against us. We are trying to break into the club of Big Time programs that is already full. Entry hasn't been and wont be easy. So if you want instant gratification find another team to route for. IMO we have made tremendous strides in building the foundation for entry into the big time. Our APR and graduation rate, entry into a premiere conference, nine bowl games in ten years and ten years of TV exposure are great accomplishments that our tools to build on. Is Coach Flood the next Nick Sabin or even Mark Dantonio? None of us can see the future but I like what I see in Coach Flood and think he deserves the support of any true Rutgers fan until he gets it done on the field or proves he can't. When Rutgers does break into the Big Boys club the New York media market will explode! I personally am enjoying the process with all its ups and downs.

My only conclusion is that the OP is a douche.

Also, "to be competitive against the best teams in the division" is a great goal.
Of course we want to get there
That puts us in the top ten in the country, you know, to be competitive with the national champion.

Lol. What else would you have me do? You asked how I know. I stated it was only my opinion. It clearly wasn't agreed with. I gave you why I made it. I referenced my previously refuted opinion on a similar matter that proved to be pretty much on the mark. Of course I could be wrong but I'm just saying I've had a good grip on the situation so far. Better than you I'd venture to guess but I'm not pompous enough to say I'm sure of it.

All I know is that I'm one of the few posters who can keep scope year to year of the program and have not been shocked or suprised except for Flood's AAC collapse. After it, I still predicted relative success in the first year of the B1G. I even give him the benefit of the doubt for the de facto Big East Championship loss against Louisville b/c although I think almost any competent coach wins the conference that year with the defense we had, I realized he would have sealed the deal if it weren't for the zebras. I'm the most lenient non-believer on the site. Mostly b/c I still root for him to succeed. I just don't see evidence to be hopeful for improvement. Yet here I am, bleeding scarlet, and still hopeful on game day, despite my better judgement. The definition of a fan (fanatic).

Had to stop reading after that idiotic comment. That is close to one of the dumbest comments I have ever read. You should be in time out

I'm not sure how old you are or what you do for a living, but I'll bet on one thing - the latter doesn't entail any serious managerial responsibilities.

Time and again you've shown yourself to be nothing more than the guy who wants to lead the pack of idiots who contribute nothing to the conversation other than juvenile insults.

Since you chose to excerpt my post and not address it in context, I'll chalk this up as another lame attempt to make yourself feel better about what's probably a pretty miserable life.

Put in words you can understand - you're a pussy, Chip. An insecure, intellectually bereft, vapid little pussy.

Sorry, you probably didn't actually understand that last bit.

It wasn't just them. Professional QB's like Trent Dilfer were involved.

There is no better way to compare a player than to see him up live and personal next to other kids. That is why the Elite 11 rankings are far, far more valuable than some website ranking.
I wonder if thats true. In other words - if you took the consensus rankings and the Elite 11 rankings, which would actually be more predictive.

vkj - he lost just two seasons ago. And he is routinely losing to the teams on our schedule in recruiting.

Worth reposting!

One of these days another Hamilton or Anthony Davis is going to realize that going to RU is the right move. There are very few men in college football the caliber of Kyle Flood, not to mention in the world. It simply amazes me that Hamilton's father who played a decade in the NFL saw the value of his son playing for Rutgers, yet many of these parents push their kids out-of-state.

Please don't make assumptions. I could care less about an "arbitrary" ranking system. But when recruiting analysts 247, scout, rivals, and ESPN are pretty much in agreement that Russo was one of the best QBs at the Elite 11 last weekend..that's what I care about.

The same scouts gave him 2 stars based on his performance in games.

So recruiting this year is all three stars with Russo as a two who is clearly a three + so last year we had a boatload of 2 stars at this time. So if you like to live and die by stars the recruiting is substantially better YOY at this point. I always thought W&L's an overall record and competitiveness were the measuring stick.
As I've said before, averaging three stars is a good goal for this year's recruiting class. It's realistic, attainable, and necessary. If we hit that, then next we shoot for 3.1 stars. Then 3.2 then 3.3 then 3.4, and if we can get to 3.5, we're in the ballpark to compete with the big boys. That's a path and a plan with clear milestones for success. The problem is that too many people here bought into the DreamTeam idea as a quick fix to elevate the program. Could it have happened? Sure. Would that have been great? Absolutely. But it's called a DreamTeam for a reason. It's something that's most likely only going to happen in your dreams. And right now, it doesn't look like it's going to happen. So we need to get back to reality and look at what's more realistic as a path to improvement for this program. Right now, I think we're on the right track.
