Ummm.. there is no player developmentSadly, playing time because top tier recruits aren't interested in Rutgers.Player development will make lower level recruits better. The problem is such a strategy won't work in the BIG Ten because the competition is too strong.
It also won't work because player development is non existent on offense. It's better on defense, but there is a low ceiling there. RU will never be good enough defensively to win consistently the way football is played now.Sadly, playing time because top tier recruits aren't interested in Rutgers.Player development will make lower level recruits better. The problem is such a strategy won't work in the BIG Ten because the competition is too strong.
If we decide we compete in this league , then we as a university need to decide what we want out of athletics. We are in trouble. This is a great example of how the Big Ten is a blessing and a curse. I am usually very optimistic when it comes to Rutgers Football, but I think we may be at the point of no return, especially given NIL.
Developing a great punter means that your team stinks.Punters should see the least playing time of all.You should be able to move rhe ball at will and be bragging about your great RBS,WRS,QBS and OLS.An RU fan's wet dreams. The only position that is enticing here is the punter.
beaced LIKE WinningIf we decide we compete in this league , then we as a university need to decide what we want out of athletics.
I am hopeful we can win
Might just be best to build our reputation through the basketball program. TBH it's not a bad approach and something Maryland did back in the early 2000's. Maryland football was a trainwreck from the late 80's throughout the 90's, the men's basketball team had tremendous success in the late 90's and early 2000's including the 2002 National championship, at the same time the football team had a resurgence that culminated in an Orange Bowl birth...We are in trouble. This is a great example of how the Big Ten is a blessing and a curse. I am usually very optimistic when it comes to Rutgers Football, but I think we may be at the point of no return, especially given NIL.
Lack of NIL is an excuse for Rutgers or any other team competing in Football. We are in trouble. This is a great example of how the Big Ten is a blessing and a curse. The #1 ranked HS team in the country, Mater Die, does not punt. They literally have not punted a single time this yearDeveloping a great punter means that your team stinks.Punters should see the least playing time of all.You should be able to move rhe ball at will and be bragging about your great RBS,WRS,QBS and OLS.An RU fan's wet dreams.
I will take a couple of bonehead, not criminals but boneheads if it mean extra wins😀In the past, the quote I've seen the most from Rutgers recruits was that coach was "trying to build something special" - meaning NJ special - "State of Rutgers" and all that. I think that had some traction in first go around.
There was/is also the education and character aspects Greg likes and that resonates with some parents. A thing I give Greg is that he usually recuits likeable players. I cant say I've ever disliked any RU player under Schiano
see that's just the thing, I don't think anyone is expecting us to compete with the Bluebloods on a yearly basis, the issue is when we play the Maryland's of the world, who recruit at roughly the same level as us (both of their 5* recruits from 21' transfered out) and we get smoked 37-0... I'm not expecting us to ever perennially compete with Penn State, Ohio State and Michigan, honestly those teams are the "nice to beat once every 8 years" kinda teams... What CAN'T happen is getting blown out by teams like Minnesota and Maryland, losing by 17 to iowa in a game that iowa's offense only scored 14. Add on the fact that we finished the season ranked 122nd nationally in penalties per game.Lack of NIL is an excuse for Rutgers or any other team competing in Football.
95% of the Division 1 Teams cannot compete with the Bluebloods on NIL.
A team has 11 starters on each side of the ball and a depth chart at each position bringing the total of regular players to about 40. 95% of the schools cannot pay more than a few players.
Without being a top 5% NIL payment program, you can still be a regular bowl eligible team.
.
This is true. If the punter is your best player, that's an indictment of your offensive philosophy and execution in addition to being an indictment of recruiting and player development.Developing a great punter means that your team stinks.Punters should see the least playing time of all.You should be able to move rhe ball at will and be bragging about your great RBS,WRS,QBS and OLS.An RU fan's wet dreams.
a couple "Leonte Carroo' types, lolI will take a couple of bonehead, not criminals but boneheads if it mean extra wins😀
And they lost their rematch last night to St. John Bosco. Not #1 anymore. Rollinson retired- what a career! The #1 ranked HS team in the country, Mater Die, does not punt. They literally have not punted a single time this year
Everyone one of them is receiving upfront money deposited directly into their bank accounts and have the promise of yearly NIL payments.Apparently it's not working so well.
Not one of the Top Ten recruits in the 2023 class in New Jersey has selected Rutgers.
Schiano Ioves punting. I’ve never seen a HC spend as much time talking to the punter as Schiano does talking to Korsak. He’s talking to him on 3rd down before the ball is even snapped lol.Developing a great punter means that your team stinks.Punters should see the least playing time of all.You should be able to move rhe ball at will and be bragging about your great RBS,WRS,QBS and OLS.An RU fan's wet dreams.
In fairness, Michigan does not do this. They do not pay any player to come to Michigan and Harbaugh has been adimant about that. Now granted, once those players arrive at michigan there are several NIL deals that benefit the entire team so inevitably players will cash in by going their.Everyone one of them is receiving upfront money deposited directly into their bank accounts and have the promise of yearly NIL payments.
This is what college football at this level has become
Well, Rutgers did get verbals from #11 Jasire Peterson, #16 John Stone, and #18 Famah Toure.Everyone one of them is receiving upfront money deposited directly into their bank accounts and have the promise of yearly NIL payments.

Before NIL was legal rampantSo was Fran Brown throwing around a bunch of money out of his pocket? Kinda funny he landed all them recruits, but now that he's gone, recruiting sucks - and we blame it all on NIL
We all know verbals mean absolutely nothing until you sign, or whether anyone else has offered them upfront money.Well, Rutgers did get verbals from #11 Jasire Peterson, #16 John Stone, and #18 Famah Toure.
Do you think Rutgers threw any cash their way ?
Rutgers has been systematically losing out on New Jersey's top players for as long as I can remember. Except for a few of the Schiano years. His success at that is one of the few things that gave me hope that RU could catch up to the Big Boys....maybe.We all know verbals mean absolutely nothing until you sign, or whether anyone else has offered them upfront money.
There’s rumors Moses Walker is being offered money by other programs after not playing a down
It’s all quite boring and has taken the fun out of following recruiting for me, others like it.
So NIL wasn't thing last yr? Just this year huhBefore NIL was legal rampant
This and our inability to be even be remotely competitive with NIL payments with other B1G programs signals the end of recruiting. We will have to continue attract recruits with MAC and FCS offers only. Need to rely on schematic and creative play calling to compete. Stinks big timeSadly, playing time because top tier recruits aren't interested in Rutgers.Player development will make lower level recruits better. The problem is such a strategy won't work in the BIG Ten because the competition is too strong.
You think Fran Brown was that significant ?So NIL wasn't thing last yr? Just this year huh
In its infancy comparatively. So NIL wasn't thing last yr? Just this year huh
Without money being the first question from a highly thought of recruit, absolutely he was a big deal recruiting wise…so was GSYou think Fran Brown was that significant ?
