Getting down to 30 will make practices much easier as sometimes we had to split practices with 37 wrestlers. The tough part is cutting those 7 kids who want to be part of the team.
So you’re telling me a facility that cost $115 million couldn’t accommodate current roster size? That makes zero sense to me.Getting down to 30 will make practices much easier as sometimes we had to split practices with 37 wrestlers. I still remember the hype surrounding the Soldano vs Munoz matchBummed to see Soldano go. He could be so electric at times. I really wanted him to pan out. I expected him to be a multi AA for us. Wish he would of cut down to 74. Wish him nothing but the best.
Def jacked out SCW though! Kid has some serious heart and a big time motor.
The hype was justified. People actually thought he could knock off Brooks with his unconventional style. His first match for us he destroyed a future AA. Just crazy that it didn't work out for him. Dude is a pinner. I still think he has the potential to place. It'll be interesting to see who else enters the portal.I still remember the hype surrounding the Soldano vs Munoz match
Yeah I honestly thought he was going to be our next big NJ wrestler.. getting him right after Poz too.. crazy how things turned out honestly..The hype was justified. He, Gayer (not surprised) and Fongaro are now in the portal.
I think Ford and Nini are a lot better than people think. Its really going to come down to how we fill 74, 97 and Hvy assuming no one else transfers from core group. Think we have enough between current roster and recruits to fill 25-84.
Peterson, Shawver, Joey O, Clark, Harer, Barbosa, SCW
Impact current/recruits - Smith, Gibson, Parkins, Magro, Chapman
To a lesser extent Nini, Cetta, Ford, Blanchette and Casale
We could use 3-4 impact transfers mostly in upper weights
Hard discussions but between Graduates and transfers thats 7 or so and does not take brain surgeon to figure out who another 8 or so that could be cut.
This is a bad take. Everyone knew he was never changing his style, but we took a chance and it almost worked. Not surprising.... We failed to develop him at all.
We will see, if he suddenly becomes an AA caliber wrestler, wherever he goes, it wouldn’t be a bad take. This is a bad take. Everyone knew he was never changing his style, but we took a chance and it almost worked.
Do u think Ford/Nini are good enough to hang vs b10 competition though? Can they qualify for nationals and possibly score points? I think it’s too early to tell tbh..I think Ford and Nini are a lot better than people think.
Luckily there's a lot of good guys that are a good fit in the portal for what we need.
This upcoming team will probably be better if we can get a few solid portal pickups at 97 and HWT. TBH 174 and 197 were big disappointments this year. Nothing against them personally, but it just didn't pan out. I think we see Ford at 174, I assume Chapman redshirts, Barbosa at 165. Interested to see if Harer redshirts and/or what Magro ends up doing.
Ford beat the same Ohio State kid that Barbosa did which we were all happy about. He also had another Big10 win vs MSU. Is an AA lock for next year, absolutely not, but as a true frosh who bumped up a weight or two from senior year, he did better than I expected. I bet another year in the room with Labs and company that he'll improve. He went 10-5 but much of those losses were early in the year. I guess we'll see though. Regardless, much higher ceiling than Gayer ever gave us or end of career Turley (who was ridden with injuries), and White.Do u think Ford/Nini are good enough to hang vs b10 competition though? Excited for Barbosa and hope he keeps improving. Chapman is exciting too I hope he’s the type of recruit that can contend for AA right away as a freshman. But yeah can’t be too much hype until we see them against National qualifier lvl competition at least. Barbosa proven he can hang.

U really think Angelo would ever leave Iowa?? That seems highly unlikely, from his interviews, he loves the Iowa culture. The crazy thing..RU can get a surefire AA/national champ type right now (Ferrari) and potentially get all the brothers there..Question is, would Rutgers do it? I hope not..we'll see what happens
That was not a bad take. The wrestlers' development is a shared responsibility; Soldano failed to develop, and Goodale failed to develop him. I hope he gets taken by a good program. If so, I expect to see good things from him. Tragic, but not surprising that he would leave. We will see, if he suddenly becomes an AA caliber wrestler, wherever he goes, it wouldn’t be a bad take.
If he drops down to 174 and has success then maybe that was the answer all along. Apparently he didn’t wanna drop down here.
Well the point Leonard was trying to make is that Soldano woulda been a flop any program he went to bc he failed to adapt. We see elite recruits not work out every year for w.e reason it may be.That was not a bad take. I think he'd leave in a heartbeat if the 3 brother's were all together on one team. Tight knit familyU really think Angelo would ever leave Iowa?? That seems highly unlikely, from his interviews, he loves the Iowa culture.
Maybe, but apparently Goodale already said he won’t be risking it on Aj? For what it’s worth, I listened to all the flo interview of AJ, and it would surprise me if he gets into future troubles whenever he went. But who knows.I think he'd leave in a heartbeat if the 3 brother's were all together on one team. Tight knit family
If Goody feeling the heat...who knows..just saying. I wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole but, you get those 3 and they stay in line..now you have some big players to work around..Peterson, Shawver, Oliveri, Angelo, AJ all can AA and the latter two have good shots to winMaybe, but apparently Goodale already said he won’t be risking it on Aj? Id do it, wth. College sports are a clusterf@@k now anyway. It doesn’t work then just let them go. Its risk reward but why not. Everybody is taking risks these days whether its paying boatloads of $ or taking questionable guys. The one that scares me though is the one at LIU. I think other 2 have matured. If Goody feeling the heat...who knows..just saying. Dude there is no chance Angelo leaves Iowa. He's a Hawkeye through and through. If Goody feeling the heat...who knows..just saying. 100% he loves Iowa culture. If he valued wrestling with family the most he woulda transferred to CSBU or Long Island already..Dude there is no chance Angelo leaves Iowa. He's a Hawkeye through and through.
And based on AJ’s comments after he took 3rd there is zero chance AJ ends up at Iowa. Basically ripped the AD a new one several times.Dude there is no chance Angelo leaves Iowa. He's a Hawkeye through and through.
LOL..You're talking about a Ferarri..family over everything. I'm sure AJ would love to go back to Iowa but it seems that ship has sailed. They lived and went to HS in Jersey for a bit and they always liked RU. Stranger things have happened.Dude there is no chance Angelo leaves Iowa. He's a Hawkeye through and through.
AJ just wrestled drama free at CSBU and I think he has matured enough to do the same wherever he goes next.LOL..You're talking about a Ferarri..family over everything. All that being said..it starts with AJ..if RU takes him in, I could see the brother's coming..just a gut feeling
We didn't take a chance on Suriano. He had no baggage or legal issues. Ferrari has significant baggage that I wouldn't touch, even with the born again act he's putting on right now.AJ just wrestled drama free at CSBU and I think he has matured enough to do the same wherever he goes next.
The irony is if Goodale takes a chance on AJ, like he did Suriano, it would get him off the hot seat. Instant title contender for us…
Not going to think about the brothers coming unless AJ comes here first. But yeah if AJ and Angelo somehow came here it would shake up the whole wrestling landscape.. Iowa would take a big step back from catching Penn state and okie state.
Hmmm are you sure there’s no Chance of AJ going to Iowa?? Seems like there’s a chance he could go up to hwt too if he wanted.
I find myself agreeing with Leonard 😲 AJ is who he is. Anthony is even worse. Having them at long distances from each other has helped to control the chaos. Putting them back together could be a problem. I've maintained that only the most desperate programs would consider them, so maybe Goodale will soften his stance. We didn't take a chance on Suriano. He stayed cleaned at CSBU. Gotta take a chance at some point, whether elite recruit or elite transfer, if we wanna have a chance to move forward. The risk is worth the potential reward imo.We didn't take a chance on Suriano. He had no baggage or legal issues. He did horrible things elsewhere. Hard pass to the point I'd consider dropping my season tickets if he comes here.He stayed cleaned at CSBU. Didn’t his sexual battery charge case get dismissed which is why he was able to wrestle again in the first place? He did horrible things elsewhere. Hard pass to the point I'd consider dropping my season tickets if he comes here.
