Yea, he is not going to go public on what his NIL offer is. Iowa offered a bag of $$$ and he took it. Like I said in an earlier post, I do not blame him and his family. Too good of an NIL to pass up.
It was illogical from the beginning that Rutgers would be in contention. I'm embarrassed that I found myself believing it was possible. Rutgers does not meet any of his criteria. I am glad we're not going to be told again that we were runner-up. That one has gotten old.
Iowa and Okie State make sense for him. Aside from the money, he will have Lee to work with at Iowa and if it turns out to be Okie State, he'll have Gilman. I did think it was going to be Okie State and still do unless the money won out. In another forum, someone had quoted Bo as having said (earlier) that he would go wherever Taylor was.
I don’t blame him. But the numbers being discussed. Especially the 5M/ year I replied to is so off base it’s unbelievable. People went over Spencer Rattler,QBfrom South Carolinas (reportedly highest paid NIL of the time )deal line item by line item and it was nowhere near the numbers discussed. Most of the NIL deals are transfers in kind. Use of house use of car etc.., not gifting a house not gifting a car. And that’s a revenue sport. As Bo says the sport is not there yet.
Hate to say it but if PSU, Okie St, and Iowa continue to corner the wrestling market and own the transfer portal, interest in wrestling will continue to drop. There was a time when my son and I (and his buddies) would make a big deal about a Friday night match-up like Iowa-PSU. Sort of like the wrestling Super Bowl. Now, forget it there is no suspense. Plus, it’s never good for B1G when you have teams like Whisky and Michigan struggling.
This means nothing to some on here , I’m in the same boat as you, supporting Rutgers for years , rooting for them except against penn state ,never disparaging the RU staff or athletes and I still get told off half the time I post here now
As a PSU fan, do you enjoy the dominance? There really isn't any question of outcome. I'd probably enjoy it for a while but then grow bored. I think the most exciting tennis, football, soccer, wrestling, etc matches are the competitive ones.

If that is the case, then they are entitled to their opinions; as adults, you realize that the only person whose behavior you can control is your own. It helps to remember that this is their “house”, and we PSU alums or fans are guests in it. Thus, act accordingly as a guest - don’t insult your host, disagree without being disagreeable, etc. I try to do that.
As for the relative difference in wrestling programs, that’s just the way things are now - I enjoy the sport, and even in non-competitive dual meets, there are usually competitive bouts..
I would love to be dominant in a sport. Why would u be bored with success?
Personally, the PSU wrestling program success is enjoyable, but I find myself thinking about why we can’t be this successful in other sports - like basketball. So it does lead to some peripheral frustration! I’d like PSU to be that dominant in all sports, obviously. Oh well, such is life
I didn't say I'd be bored with success; that would be silly. I'd love to see Rutgers more competitive. I don't think it's good for the sport to have one team so dominant.
Hmm Bo said on FRL that his offers were no where near the $5 mill rumors and that it was laughable although he wished it were to be true.. he said all 4 finalists had comparable offers…
If it really was 5 million I guess he was just saying in front of the cameras it wasn’t true for some reason.
I sure wish he came here, but bidding wars for college athletes is ridiculous. Good luck to him and to those who want to buy the best teams.
I actually had this conversation with me dad just this morning..During the season no I don’t enjoy the dominance ,dual meets are boring now , I used to really enjoy the battles with Iowa and Ohio state, hell even when ASU ended our win streak it was still a great match now it’s boring and I just have to look forward to the one or 2 matches in a dual that are competitive…Ncaa tournament is still exciting though I view it more as the field vs penn state which makes it a little more interesting ….all that being said If given a choice I’ll always take the dominance over what it was prior to Cael taking over plus beating Iowa by 20 plus points will never get old
I would trade a yr or 2 of penn state wrestling dominance for the football team to win a national championship just once but that’s not going to happen in my lifetime
Yea, I said the other day, he is not going to disclose that info. On Willie Saylor's podcast, he was talking about Va Tech and said their offer was around 2.5(he said he could not confirm exact number, but he knows). He also said earlier in year he was talking to Va Tech about recruiting and the NIL and they told him, they have the $$ to compete.
Iowa has Bob Nicolls, a huge supporter of the wrestling team. He donated money for the new wrestling room that is named after him. And has been giving huge $ for NIL. I am sure he is behind the Bassett NIL treasure chest.
Iowa likes to keep a lid on the ridiculous money they’ve been throwing around , especially with Mineo always putting the numbers out there every time a new transfer goes to Iowa , I wouldn’t be surprised if they asked Bo to not out them
It absolutely should be public knowledge what these kids are getting paid. They aren’t student athletes any more, they are professional athletes. The contracts should be public, just like the pros. And if the universities want to throw obscene money at the athletes, fine. The courts ruled it legal. But it should be public knowledge. Many of these schools are state institutions. I dint care if a booster is flipping the bill. They shouldn’t get it both ways, that they can throw crazy money around and not have to face public scrutiny over it.
How would that happen given that they are always lobbying to keep their status as exempt from antitrust laws?
Edit: @PessimisticallyHopefulPragmatist I seem to have lost privileges to post here. But seems I can still edit. The NCAA lobbies Congress to be exempt from antitrust laws. Lately Congress has threatened to take the exemption away. If the NCAA attempted what you suggest they would surely lose their exemption. The difference with the NFL is that the players are employees and have a union that collectively bargains the terms of things like the draft and free agency. NCAA students have neither. And the NCAA has fought hard to keep it that way.

They lost twice in the 2020 season. Once to Arizona State and once to Iowa.
Who is lobbying who? It would need to be different from antitrust laws in several ways. First, I see it as an NCAA rule, not a law, which is a government function. It would be difficult because it would limit the wrestlers' university choices for education, which is separate from athletics. Pro football has a draft that provides favor to lower-performing teams (I think). That approach would also impact free choice. I think the NCAA needs to target the cause of the inequities. That too is difficult to control. The money aspect is probably the easiest and closest to the core of most antitrust suits. Coaching isn't something that can be regulated; the kids will still want to wrestle for certain coaches. I don't know the right approach, but I do think something is needed. Start by recognizing there is a problem, defiine the problem, then the contributing factors. Some will always be unhappy.
A little shocked that Iowa got him. I thought for sure it would be OKST. That said, he looked happiest in the Iowa pictures. Anyhow, glad that is done with and I guess we'll be seeing a lot of him and a surge in Iowa recruiting again, just like they had with Lee, except I suspect it'll have a bigger effect. Bo is just much more outspoken (as times are different). Anyhow, glad we'll see him in the Big10 against PSU.
It was the NIL, said days ago that it was a huge NIL. That was the deciding factor
He said that ever since he started wrestling Iowa has been his favorite team.
