Recruiting

How apropos
Visit on the coldest week of the year.
Perhaps Heck will freeze over :) and he will come here.

Borrow Schiano's helicopter and pick him up
Tough week to visit w/ PSU and Illinois in town PSU will be a tough one. Wrestle like they did vs OSU against ILL and it should be a great match. If
not could be a long night/weekend.
PSU
125- Toss up
133- Slight Shawver lean/Toss up
141- PSU
149- PSU
157- PSU
165- PSU
174- PSU
184- PSU
197- PSU
285- PSU

Illinois
125- Peterson (hope for bonus)
133- Slight ILL lean
141- Slight ILL lean/Toss up/Depends on Olivieri health
149- Toss Up/Frosh from ILL is tough
157- Toss Up/Slight ILL lean
165- ILL lean even though OSU kid that Barbosa beat beat ILL; seems like an outlier match
174- Toss Up. Should be fun; they both like to go upper body
184- ILL lean (Ruth is tough but could be an upset if Walsh can tire him out)
197- slight lean Poz but Braunagel is tough
285- slight lean Yara but Luffman very good too.

Jordan Chapman wins Union County title at 190lbs. Anyone know if this will be his new weight? Perhaps growing still?

Chapman is in a tough spot Perrentin at 165….Burton at 175…Ludington at 190

There’s not really an easy path here for him.
Perentin is better but Chapman tossed him to his back last year and had a good shot to pin him but ref called potentially dangerous because Perentin started his bridge in neutral and landed on his head. A lot of people thought it was a bad call and that Chapman got robbed of his chance at an upset.

Yes there was quite a debate after that match. Perentin is a beast but I’m not sure why Chapman would mess with a bigger Burton. And Ludington at 190 is unbeatable.

Just asking those that are much smarter than me who know RU Wrestling. Is it really advantageous to have Bartlett on his recruiting trip this weekend? It seems very likely we might only win a match or two.

My only thought is to essentially pitch to him that we are going to build our entire program around him. Be a program builder and not join a powerhouse like PSU.

He's coming Fri?

Bassett will be at the Penn st dual for sure he's taking his official visit this weekend
Not sure how I feel about the timing of it. He obviously has to go to a dual but the crowd has to be into it. Need to start the dual off at 125 and sneak a couple wins in before it takes the crowd out. Wish it lined up with a more competitive dual.

This is sort of my point. Perhaps we didn’t have a choice as this is what Bartlett wanted and knows disparity exists.

I hope Goody selling point is something like look how powerful PSU is, they are a monster and the best. You are different. You want the pressure. You want to be a game changer. You can be that at RU! He moves the needle at RU but at PSU he is just another top notch wrestler.

Not sure if anyone else noticed, but, Bo Bassett and his family were sitting a few rows behind the Ohio State bench when RU wrestled at Ohio State. I assume he was taking an official visit there. While RU didn't win the match, he saw our passionate coaching staff, RU wrestlers competing with higher ranked guys, and RU team members cheering for one another. Personally, I thought RU's effort at OSU only helped out in an effort to recruit him.

Basset knows. He knows which programs are powerhouses and which are building.. he’s open minded.. I mean he listed all programs as a possibility to him to start his recruiting process… maybe it was just a publicity stunt but I genuinely believe he gave every program at least a thought….

Wish he coulda came to the Illinois match instead but yeah he already knows PSU will crush whoever they face.. exactly he can be another cog in the machine or help awaken a powerhouse. We gotta throw the kitchen sink at recruiting him.

record setting NIL deal, I do not think we are doing that.
Bo Big NIL Deal
Says record breaking NIL… did we lay down the NIL sledgehammer …?? I have a bad feeling we might a got outbidded….
The Big NIL deal will come from an outside source and not directly from the University

Record breaking deal means it’s not Penn St and I doubt Iowa.

Michigan has thrown around money in the past, but I could see OK State and Taylor making a huge splash.

I wouldn’t call us desperate but of all the teams, we stand the most to gain by getting him. If we have money available, we’d certainly be the most likely to break the bank to get him here. We’ll see.

Mineo tweeted its not Penn state apparently.. plus I can’t see PSU hammering after they just landed so many hammers…

A potentially relevant bit of information, Bo didn’t put up his photos from his RU visit (yet). Anecdotal but I think that usually fares well for the last visit before commitment. They’re up on the Bassett Brothers FB (which I think is run by dad) but not on his IG.

But yes, as LetsGo mentioned, he’s at the level where the (likely record-breaking) deals will be there for him wherever he goes. Fit and family will play a much larger role than funds, imo.

If we were smart we'd throw everything at him. We'd have sellout crowds... Not like we have an RTC athlete we're paying.
