I watched a little bit of their practice. Adrian Griffin Jr., a junior who is already committed to Duke, is maybe the best high school player I have seen. I can’t believe he’s only ranked number six in his class.
There are times when we have needed a shooter to open things up a bit. If he shoots as well as advertised, I would not be totally surprised to see him play this coming semester.
Duke might end up with another Barrett-Zion-Reddish class.
They already have Griffin and are in the mix for numbers 1 (Kuminga), 2 (Holmgren), and 3 (Baldwin)
He will not be playing but will practice with the team and then spend summer with Swedish national team.Immigration paperwork is delaying his arrival at Rutgers but should be on campus prior to start of spring semester.
The coach was far less definite about his not playing this year. In light of the fact that if he redshirts he will be a 21-year-old freshman, and there is no guarantee he will want to stay in school for five years given his starting age, I would not be so concerned with blowing a year of eligibility.
4theknights, Thank you so much on the comments on our recruits. I hope we can get Palmquist on campus soon and that he can develop well to help us. If he can contribute this season I am all for it if he would be 21 already for next season as a freshman. He just might be content to not stay 5 years. If he can rebound and hit the outside shot to extend the defense he just might make an option we can immediately need. I just hate reading negative comments that some of our fans make on our recruits without ever seeing them. I trust Coach.
So, do you really expect him to do anything but GUSH about every kid he signs? If you don’t, here’s a flashback for you. And by the way, his comment about Souf’s speed? Reminds me of one of my coaches saying “son, my grandmother would beat you down the court and she ‘s dead.”

The parents often have a say were their kid goes. So this the way Pikiell is thanking them them, no big deal.
Palmquist had interest from Florida, Iowa and Cinci and an offer from Western Kentucky.

Coach Pikiell recruits well, coaches better and develops talent best. I have no reason to believe this class won’t be as impactful as Geo’s, Harper’s and Mulcahy’s have been. I’d wager on it being a productive class.
Not sure the Geo/Myles/Doucoure class was particularly lauded. Now it might have two All-B1G level players.

What a strange thing to nitpick.
Basically they were window shopping but not at the point of making a deal (giving an offer). Hence, no offers from these schools is the guess.
Pikiell proved he can recruit by landing Johnson and Baker when many thought they couldn't help very much. He also got Eugene, McConnell, Harper and Mulcahy and others. He can recruit. Those that are criticizing need to give it a rest already. I am looking forward to seeing all 3 of our recruits contribute to our team. I trust in Steve. He uses the eye test not just recruiting rankings.

Was it the offer from Grand Canyon or Hawaii that led you to believe Myles was going to be a potential All-B1G Center?

Here is the full list of kids Coach P has brought in to the program when he has had a full recruiting cycle: Geo, Myles, Doucoure, Souf, Kiss, Harper, McConell, Mathis, Carter, Young, Mulcahy, Yeboah.
The idea anyone would point to "Souf Mensah" as the data point questioning Coach P's recruiting is ridiculous. That's 12 kids in 3 classes. 9 would be labeled, at a bare minimum, B1G level contributors, 1 TBD and 2 who appear to have not fit at this level. That's pretty damn good and the best we've seen at Rutgers in 20 years.

Let’s not confuse “interest” with “offer.” Fact is, none of the 3 incoming recruits had major offers. That is disappointing, but the proof will be in how they develop and play on the Banks. Here’s to hoping they all turn out to be diamonds in the rough, as unlikely as that seems.

The point of bringing up Souf was in response to a post about comments made about the ‘20 kids and relying on the comments by Pikiell (or every other coach) about every kid that he signs. Ignore them. They’re coach speak, nothing more. That’s not a criticism of the quality of the majority of the kids that Pikiell has signed. Pikiell has said nothing but great things about every recruit. Why would anyone expect him to say anything negative ... or take the praise seriously?
Myles is a great example to make your point as he had no P5 offers and has developed into a budding Big 10 star. But Baker and McConnell did have P5 offers, despite the fact that they were not in the top 150. My point is that it is unlikely that all three incoming recruits, who had no other P5 offers, will become top players for RU in the Big10.

Well, Sparky, when you become Coach of Rutgers you be sure and put your stamp on things, then. Or, better yet, stop listening to any media in which Coach speaks and you'll stop hearing that. Your stress will go down.
Not to mention, our stress will go down from hearing you rant on such a little thing. Life's short, get over it.
Some need to realize that basketball offers are not like football offers. You can’t just throw them out there and try to get them to camp or figure out a position for them later. Most will only have a few spots to fill and have to be selective. I agree with RutgHoops. Pike has earned the benefit of the doubt at this point.
Geo had one and Caleb had one as reported on Rivals. Not sure the difference between one and none is so great as to make the point. Wouldn't Reiber's PSU offer and Mag's Depaul offer put them in a similar place as Caleb and Geo as far as offers go?
I hope Mag and Rieber and (Oskar) are every bit as good as the "under recruited" kids Coach P has brought here thus far. Time will tell. My only point is this HC and his staff have been very, very good at identifying and developing talent. Until proven otherwise I'll believe this class will perform.
Agree 100% about Pike's scouting of 4-year players (only exception was Bullock). JUCO's not so much . . . Souf, Candido and Carter were/are all big disappointments IMHO.
But, to be clear, Pike has offered an awful lot of recruits who have many P5 offers. He just hasn't landed any yet.
Not sure this is an either/or situation. I do have faith in Pike finding diamonds in the rough and turning them into something more then literally everyone else in college basketball does. With that said, it is not unreasonable for fans to wish there would be a top 150 recruit coming in each year.
