Rene to UNC

Just to be clear here, the guy who said he was committing to Rutgers for the education is now switching his decision to UNC, home of the no classes, fake classes and made up degrees??

As a reminder, his quote from his commitment announcement:

Rene%20quote_zpss7fh8vio.jpg

It's called lying. He lied. He thinks he will be playing on Sundays so he doesn't need an education or a degree.

It's called being a stupid teenager. hopefully, he will take advantage of UNC and get a real education, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

If you can't see how its academics are totally different from its athletics, I really can't explain it to you. I get it. You're upset and so am I, but come on! You know exactly what I am talking about.

Your specific use of the word "fine" to describe UNC's academics is too generous in my view, given the institution's academic-athletic collusion where the scandal/s are concerned. Your academics cannot knowingly participate in this scam and be considered "fine," in my view.

And look how the administration and academic faculty/staff there dealt with certain of their own members who blew the whistle on the AFAM program and the student-athlete support programs. Disgraceful. And telling.

By the way, there were at least six different academic programs involved in the scandal, beyond AFAM. The academic improprieties were not isolated and limited to this one program.

Lastly UNC was placed on probation by their accreditation agency. That is not exactly befitting a "fine" academic insitution.

IMO thumbs down to the new staff on this one. Understood losing Russo but it seemed way too easy to pry this kid away. Your a defensive coach who recruited him at your previous school - you have to had a relationship with kid. He was the top kid in your existing class and he is gone weeks before NSD. Disappointing.

Agree. Time for coach to get his Ash in gear ! The honeymoon period is ending.

Wait, so he's in the ACC now? But so many here say the ACC sucks so therefore he must suck....can't have it both ways guys.....

Pretty ionic comment coming from a Miami fan with a screen name iloverutgers posting on a Rutgers board while posing as a Rutgers fan.

Not sure what ionic is but the hypocrisy that exists on this board is in the stratosphere

The ACC sucks (according to quite a few) but every time we get a transfer from there he's suddenly a program changer......right!
The ACC sucks but if we were to steal a kid from say Pitt, Cuse, or NC he's 'all of a sudden' a good player?

Yeah, Miami sucks we know....but if we had a transfer from there.....blah blah blah....

How is this?

Why I love this board ;)

Perhaps Rene wasn't comfortable with Ash since it's been reported that tOSU actually cooled on his recruitment. Still, I agree we needed to find a way to keep him at RU.

Fine, it's a garbage school and everyone that has a degree from this institution should walk around in shame and hanging their heads. Happy?

Unrealistic expectations. It's your right to have them but will certainly lead to unnecessary frustration for you.

In the end, Ash's tenure is going to come down to the brand of football he puts on the field. As an x and o guru and a guy that clearly is going to drive the team, physically, I'd say he's got an excellent chance of being successful.

To draw any conclusions based on whatever happens with this recruiting class, is silly.

Rutgers was always a place holder for Rene. He wants to go to a factory. He would have de-commited anyway - didn't matter who the HC was. Not sure why this is hard to understand.

Here is the thing with recruiting - if you are expecting the 2016 class to be equal to or better than the list of commits Flood had before he got fired, well then you are going to get disappointed. Worse, is that you will somehow correlate it to Ash' abilities as a coach. But here is the thing, we already heard that many of the commits were ready to decommit before Flood got fired. Many of them were already wavering when the season went to hell. The change in regime may have exacerbated the issue but the decomms were happening, regardless.

Count this year's recruiting to be Ash's mulligan. 2017 is where you can fairly judge his abilities. If by then, he is still losing to schools like Temple, then by all means criticize away. But anyone harping on losing kids this year is simply being unfair to Ash. One thing to note though, whoever signs up this year, you better believe it will be kids that have bought into Ash's vision for the program - there will be no surprises as to the amount of hard work that would have to be put in.

You would have to think NC believes the sanctions will not be significant prospectively. Otherwise what could they be selling to these kids?
They are telling the kids, and might actually believe, that women's hoops is going to take the fall for all this.

You're emotional. Perhaps you have a stake in the game?

In any case, UNC is not a "garbage" school. It is on par academically with many state flagship universities.

What UNC is, is a very a profitable institution, and it has built a very profitable brand and public image that is misleading and belies a few underlying less-adulatory dynamics, due to a large part by championship athletics and the university's prioritization of athletics over substance and integrity including academic integrity. In the run up, academics have been compromised, to the point where the school is on ACADEMIC probation. Probation is a big damn deal.

But they do have a chance to right the flagship and regain credibility. And yet they continue obfuscate, deny, deflect, when they need to come clean, maybe. . . I don't know. . . offer up some sort of self-imposed sentence. But, no, they continue to drag out the inevitable NCAA punishment timeline, the latest by "self-discovering" and "self-reporting" some additional academic irregularities involving women's BB and soccer, or some such. What this has done is muddy the situation further and extend the NCAA punishment timeline (perhaps), effectively buying time in which men's BB is running toward the NCAA tourney, perhaps a NC, and FB's recruiting is unimpeded for another cycle.

It's Ironic because you are a Miami fan and protective of the ACC and this is a Rutgers board that cares about the ACC only to the extent of making fun of it. Its Ironic because you do not understand this is the way it generally works on fanboards. Its Ironic bacause you are here to troll, put down RU, talk up the ACC etc. using a fake ID so to speak in that you are pretending to be an RU fan but really only here to cause trouble or forward your ACC agenda.

I'm a fan of the game...unlike you who are only here to spew hate. I tell it the way it is and the way I see it! And folk like you are what society calls a hypocrite. You say the ACC and every team in it sucks but if a player from the league is considering RU then he's suddenly a stud....or if a player from there transfers here cause he didn't 'make the grade' you suddenly have a perfect excuse. #Comical

LOL. Interesting to see you squirm and get nasty as you are exposed further. More interesting in that I really don't get involved in the ACC bashing or recruit love/hate obsession as some do here. In other words, you are grasping at straws. What I do like to do is read the board and through reading it exposes who posters really are. Don't you find it sad that you hang out here on a board of a team you have no rooting interest in, using a fake ID in order to troll because you got nothing else going on in life to pass the time? I do.

Just keepin it real my man. The ACC and SEC suck remember?

They just stockpile a league that plays on Sunday's. Lol

Thanks for so clearly illustrating for ScarletNation the integrity and character of your school and its storied traditions, and its academic grace.

No athletics-driven academic scandal occurred at UNC as reported in the Wainstein Report and in the SACS report and as outlined in the NCAA NOA. These findings are fiction, and the systematic two-plus decades of scandal did not happen.

Further, I am not a Rutgers grad but a plant by a bitter and resentful rival school of yours. Got it.
You can always head back to Jersey! Nobody invited you down here anyway!

Thanks for stopping by ScarletNation, for registering, and for your kind suggestion. By the way, I was in fact "invited" down to NC some 35 years ago. I love the state. Not sure what any of that has to do with UNC and its 20+ years of cheating, though.

OK, you got me. I am very emotional... I am also the son of the dean of UNC Chapel Hill and my daddy's job depends on how I defend the school on a football forum for Rutgers.

So essentially your mission is to pretend to be a Rutgers fan on an anonymous Rutgers fan board and to continue trolling and hijacking threads in order to point out to any RU fans when they are hypocrites and to be defender of all things SEC / ACC? Think I got it. Sorry, but this makes you look even smaller if that was even possible.

PS - What does this thread have to do with how many players the ACC & SEC puts in the NFL? Nice hijack.

BECASUE HE LEFT RU TO GO TO NC AND THE ACC.....AND SINCE YOU SAID THE ACC SUCKS......ITS REALLY NOT A LOSS THEN AND YOU CAN STOP THE NUMEROUS THREADS ON MR RENE

Lastly UNC was placed on probation by their accreditation agency.
Many people have no idea how big a deal this is. It typically only happens to schools that are literally failing, about to close down.

The latest UNC scandal "news" will break soon, involving a scheme to have incoming student-athletes advantageously being diagnosed as Learning Disabled/ADHD.

A Dookie has poured through a recent doc dump by UNC, resulting from a public records request. And the docs point to this whole new area of cheating at UNC.

In short, per @Bluedevilicious, the general population has an ADHD incidence of 4-5%, and athletes have an ADHD incidence rate of 8-10%. But UNC LD/ADHD incidence rate is 38% for FB, and was 61% for two consecutive FB/WBB classes.

These kids were also newly diagnosed as freshman at UNC, apparently not having been diagnosed prior to their enrollment.

Apparently, with this diagnosis comes certain "accommodations" such as unlimited time to complete assignments and tests, "take home" test provisions, and also certain prescribed meds that apparently are also classified as PEDs.

Expect to see some press on this, soon.
do u just make it up as u go?

The denial by UNC fans/alums can only be equaled by the Nittiots.
Both institutions where the fans/alums took great pride in how they did it better than other, lesser schools.
The "Carolina Way" has been shown to be as fraudulent as the classes these "student athletes" took.
If the NCAA doesn't come down seriously hard the NCAA should be dissolved;
university presidents should demand same. And that means not just vacating wins
but penalties going forward.

Guys, let's be real here. The football team is involved in systemized cheating, but nevertheless, UNC is a fine academic school. Rene has an excellent opportunity to get an education if he chooses to do so.
With recruits perception matters and scandals are largely ignored except at Rutgers.

Apparently, I'm a "friggin riot" and "very angry," per a thread on TarHeel Blitz: https://northcarolina.forums.rivals.com/threads/patrice-rene-commits-to-unc.27322/

I don't know about a "friggin riot" and "very angry"... but I've read this whole thread, and not once have you posted anything about Rutgers. Every post is about UNC. And it seems to be that you're upset about losing a commit, which is understandable. What is fairly comical though, is that you think you've got the whole NCAA investigation situation figured out to a T, and that you just know sanctions are coming, and those sanctions are coming to the football team. There are people who have been focused on this story for years, and have no idea what's going to happen with it. How do you know so definitively? Have you spent countless hours reading up on a school that for the most part has nothing to do with your own school (outside snagging a recruit from you every once in awhile)?

I've been a resident of NC for 35 years and am very very familiar with our state's ACC schools. And I have been very closely following the UNC scandal through the various internal reviews up to the present.

If you have frequented ScarletNation over the last five years or so, you should be familiar with my UNC scandal updates. If you are offended, do not read my posts.

As for this thread, the context of my posts should be apparent and self-evident: UNC FB has successfully flipped a prized RU recruit. UNC and UNC athletics will soon pay the price for its 23+ years of cheating. Unfortunately, Rene will be impacted by the pending NCAA sanctions. It's not a matter of "if" UNC will be punished; it is a matter of the the extent of the punishment. My information and connectivity lead me to believe the punishment will be significant, very significant.

Insanity > Insane ;)

Just a hunch, but I think the UNC culture is much more like Flood's culture than what Ash is installing. It is just going to turn off some kids.

Rutgers recruiting is really disorganized right now. Don't think Ash even made an in home visit to Rene. Anyone know what the new recruiting coordinator is doing because it is sure not keeping things organized.

Ash isn't going to be able to just walk into a few high schools in north jersey and say "hey I'm Chris Ash, send your kid to RU"

Being the new kid on the block, and a Midwest kid at that is gonna present some challenges

Long road to haul I think

what exactly has come out on the football side of things (new stuff) since they were first reprimanded (loss of bowl game, stripped of some scholly's among other things) by the NCAA? Tell us since you have followed this so closely over the last five years. I'll hang up and listen ...
