As many of you know, my wife Janet Garbarini has suffered with dreaded Alzheimer’s for 15 years that I have cared for her at our home. She would accompany me to RU wrestling practice often in the basement of the Barn. She would bring enough handkerchiefs to wipe the sweat from their brows during breaks and at the end of practices. She hated to see them sweat! Our kids would come up and hug and kiss her, calling her Mrs G and sit next to her on that long bench. She would stay for the full practice and coaches Goodale, Leonardis, Pritzlaff and Pollard would sit and talk with her. She loved all of them because they were so kind and caring. She has been in hospice the past 3 weeks so I have been non-existent pretty much. At 4:30 on Wednesday October 5 she took her last breath with me holding her hand. That bright light and my 56 year partner and wife was dimmed for good. She will be waked and buried from Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Ave, Somerville NJ. Their website has all of the particulars. She will be cheering her boys on from up above this year. God Bless her as she was one of a kind.

Incredibly sorry for your loss Bill. It sounds like she was an amazing woman and you were lucky enough to spend all those years together. Alzheimers is an absolutely crushing disease for everyone involved but thankfully she is at peace now. RIP Janet.

Damn Bill sorry to hear that. She sounds like a wonderful woman that will surely be missed. Take care of yourself.

Guys
I know it sounds corny but she was one of a kind. She was the most caring, giving mother, wife, lover, grandmother and friend one could ever have. She truly loved those kids, especially those charmers Gravina and Ashnault.

My condolences. Having been a part time care provider for someone with Alzheimers/dementia for a much shorter period than 15 years, I know how challenging it can be. I am sure she appreciated all you did for her even if she could not always express it.

Guys I wish all of you can have a woman like her in your lives because she was as close to as perfect as one could be. All she ever wanted was to stay home and keep the house, raise the kids and take care of me. She would tell everyone she would meet that she had to die first because she could never live without her Bill! Well that devil got her wish.

My most sincere condolences to you and your family Bill. Your words always glowed (and still do) for Mrs. G. Your relationship is one for the ages. May she rest in peace Bill.

Bill

May Janet rest In Peace. You are so fortunate to have spent 56 loving years together. All of us benefit from the example that the two of you set. I know Janet will forever be looking down and cheering for her Rutgers boys on the mat.

My only consolation is she is no longer suffering which was the worst thing of the past few years. This disease is so hideous as it is such a long goodbye. You work your ass off all your life to enjoy the Golden Years with the one you love snd then those years disappear cause she can’t do anything with you anymore. So if I have any advice for my fellow RU fans, don’t hold back on doing anything you want to do for tomorrow because tomorrow may be a lot different that what you may anticipate!

You are the true testament of what a spouse should be. Friend, lover, caretaker and one who puts the other before themselves. It is something that has unfortunately been taken for granted by too many in the world we live in. I have no doubts she even in her worst days knew you were her strength fighting this dreaded disease. Anyone who has experienced it with a loved one can understand fully. May she RIP .

Thanks RUBob
She was my world and I never would have done anything different. If it were me in that place, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind she would have done the same for me. I told Scott Goodale that her death will be his worst nightmare because now he will see a lot B more of V me in practice!!

Bill - my sincere condolences for your loss. It sounds that you are truly blessed to have had such a person in your life for so long. May you continue to share a bit of that same light with others for the rest of your days.

Thanks RUBob

I’m with my wife now for 55 years and not a day goes by that I don’t realize how much she has mean’t to me and our lives together. You had a special bond with your wife and yes contrary to some of the naysayers you will find her once again. Keep your memories of her … know she is with you always. Love knows no limits it transcends beyond this short life. May you be comforted during these times. God Bless.

Dear Bill. My sincerest condolences to you. I am sure Janet's loss is unbelievably difficult, but it is great to see you reflecting on the wonderful life the two of you shared. My family and I are praying for you, your wife, and your family. God bless.

So sorry Bill, it’s a blessing to have someone like that in your life for so long. RIP

Folks
Thanks for all of your kind thoughts, prayers and good wishes. These past 56 years with Jan were the most wonderful one could imagine so I guess I should be thanking my lucky stars she was my life. I shall miss her terribly but oh such wonderful memories I shall rely on to move me forward.

Bill: So sorry for the loss of your wife and best friend. You are a true role model the way you quietly stepped up and got things done, year after year. The real beauty of this program and community is having met people like you and your wife. May she rest in peace. $$$$

Thanks Bill. She was an incredible woman that I only all of you folks could experience the same type of woman in your lives.

So sorry for your loss. Horrible disease. Been helping my mom care for my dad for over a year with no end in sight. God bless you.

@wngarbarini it was great seeing you at practice yesterday. Again, my deepest sympathies for the loss and apologies for not knowing prior to yesterday as I’ve been away from the board for a few weeks. Westfield PAL football and club practices dominating my life!!! I’ve been with my lady for 20 years so I can only imagine what you are going through now.

On a positive note the boys looked great in the room yesterday. There is a very positive and loose feel in the room. Sammy looks absolutely driven and ready to do some damage. Janzer said that this is the healthiest he’s felt since High School!!!

Btw… Tony White is quite a character. He’s already going to be a favorite of mine. This is a guy I’m praying has big success because he’s a great personality.

My thoughts too. I got a kick out of the mike'd-up video he did.

Bill: I'm glad you're getting out. I suspect the best thing right now is to surround yourself with family and friends.
