He will have learned the system this year and he probably will excel next year.

...at Stanford after a hardship transfer. Kevin Hogan graduates so the starting job is open.

I highly doubt that because Laviano will get the Nova treatment as long as Flood is around.

Mmm, forgot about Dare. Dare may very well be the guy if he lights it up in Spring. It's the coaches problem not mine.

So if Flood doesn't change his mind, Rettig won't have any experience over Dare.
This is turning into a nightmare.

I'd be surprised - although pleasantly - if Dare ever starts a game at this level.

Same here. I see him like Bimonte. Sit the bench, be a good backup and ready to play when needed for 3 years, and then transfer to some low level school after he gets his degree. Laviano, Rettig, and Russo (assuming we keep him) all seem to be a step above him. Rescigno is probably better than him too, but who knows.

If we are beating Kansas by 4 touchdowns at the half, will Retigg
play? I say if he doesn't the handwriting is on the wall. If we are losing by 4
I say we don't see him then either.

If he does, whoever the backup is will magically become Joe Montana in the eyes of the fanbase.

It's Rettig, not the fact that he is the backup. He would get very strong support if he is given a shot.He doesn't have to be Montana, but he has star potential.

Just to refresh your memories, Joe Montana was just an average QB at Notre Dame
In fact Bill Walsh did every thing he could to trade up for Phil Simms, his first
choice, Finally in the third round Walsh he settled for Montana.
