Retting brought back in tells me he is getting the start next week

I'm not sure what to make of it, to be honest with you. I think it's just a weird move to make at 63-13

Rettig started well and deserved to end the game. That is my take away. Good to see him smiling on the sideline.

You think? I don't know I still think it's Laviano. I guess we'll see next week.

If you were giving mop up, you give it to your 3rd string at that point.

I interpret Rettig coming is as " the game is out of hand and let's pull the QB". If Rettig is the starter for next week, then why would you put the starter back in while leading 63-13???

How many passes did Chris throw?
I think Hayden was put in to let everyone know he won the starting position.

Not sure what it means - couldn't tell anything from this game other than that they both played well against a bad team....and that that Carroo guy isn't so bad.

I actually see it the other way. He's getting as many reps as he can since he will move to the bench soon.

Handing off the ball at the end of the game is not getting reps. It's ridiculous. They should have just put Gio in at that point. Flood has done a lot of stupid things over the last 4 years and this is just another in a long list of them.

I think it was clear Rettig had a bad taste in his mouth after the first half, rightfully. I believe them giving him the close was a way to leave with a little better feeling about how it went down.

Groh said it right. Unless you are at practice, you don't really know. Based on what is happening, they really do appear close. Considering that, Rettig did nothing to squander the opportunity he earned, and neither did Laviano, though you can argue he was clearly in a better position having Carroo.

My guess is Rettig starts next week with Laviano keeping warm expected to play. If Rettig absolutely lights it up or doesn't, the decision to play will be made appropriately then.

That's your opinion though and I have to disagree. Let's just assume you are right for a minute... Then why wasn't Caroo sent in to get reps with Rettig as well? And if it's to prevent unnecessary injury.... Then why would you put your starter back in and risk unnecessary injury to Rettig? I believe is because Flood will give the nod to Laviano but wants to give reps to Rettig to prevent him from getting cold in the near future.

Playing your star wide receiver is much different than playing QB when all you are doing is handing the ball off. The odds of injury are much higher because you are actually blocking.

I hear you that. Hoping he learned from the Va Tech fiasco. We will see.

OK, hater, what other things has Flood done that is stupid. since you say he's done so many?

I also agree with Cali.....putting Rettig back in indicates to me that Rettig is the starter, and Laviano came in for some reps, then the starter went back out to finish off the game.

I will be shocked, if after watching tape of how Rettig looked in the first half, both throwing and running when he needs to, they announce that Laviano is the guy.

I do think Lav will get some reps in the game, but Rettig passed the test in this opener.

I'm actually psyched that both QB's looked ready.

I'm also psyched how good Patton looked in the first half.

Carroo is in BEAST mode, and made Laviano maybe look better than he really was. I think that with Patton and Carroo on the field, one of them will be open on most plays.

Our RB's looked solid to excellent. Question will be will they have the same lanes to run next week? That is going to be really interesting to see.

Rettting should start. Laviano had an underthrown pass that Caroo still converted into touchdown. Retting showed surprising mobility and had a nice tackle to prevent a touchdown after a fumble. I wish Retting had an opportunity to throw to Caroo as well.

IMO, it would have made far more sense to put in the 3rd string at that time...

Laviano had an underthrow for a TD and Rettig had a sure INT dropped. Y the nonsense?

The way he handled Nova after that game and pre season last year tells me he did. I chalk it up to the Fridge influence.

Stupid things Flood has done?

Left Nova in against Kent State and how many other times when he just didn't have it.

I thought Rettig looked better, but if he was going to be the starter, he would have gotten the first series of the second half and a chance to play with Carroo.

You say he put Rettig back in at the hand off because he's the starter, but he's never done that in the past. The last 3 years against FCS opponents he didn't have Nova in there at the end handing off, he had Dodd. Well except last year since we almost lost.

I started the game a Rettig fan..and ended thinking Laviano was the man...the team seemed to respond to him better. Just my opinion.

They both played well.

Agreed. Laviano appeared to have better command of the offense. The offense also seemed to pick up the pace as well. We will see.

I think it's kind of silly to assume that Retting coming back in was an indication of who will be the starting QB. I think that, most likely, Flood was already mostly sure who he wants starting this year before the game.

If he wasn't mostly sure, then he'll make the final decision after watching game film tomorrow. He's not going to make the decision mid-game w/out the benefit of seeing everything going on in the game film.

There could be all sorts of reasons why Retting came back in, but making a statement to the fans about who the starting QB will be is almost certainly not one of those reasons. Coaches coach to win the game or to develop players or for other constructive football-related reasons. They don't coach to please the fans in any way other than by trying to win games.

That's exactly what I believe he was doing. Giving his QB confidence because he was probably told it didn't go over well how it went down.

It had nothing to do with that the fans think nor was that insinuated.
