Meanwhile, back in November:
"From the start I always wanted to go to Temple," Saulin said. "I committed early to UConn and that put me in a bind, but it came down to I love how Temple has turned the program around. I thought about it a long time and it is something I couldn't pass up."

well usually when you decommit its due to having gotten a better offer.

He had UConn then he upgraded to Temple. Maybe he got one from Syracuse or Rutgers

a little lost, agreed. but at 17-18, who really knows where to go. Hopefully whatever he chooses it works out. I noticed he had Navy on his list, great program but also a military commitment after cfb, tough choice if you are on the fence about a commitment

Two star with a not-so-great offer list, this screams Flood recruit, not to mention the two time decommitt. We will get better

He used the fencethegarden hashtag, that is code for Rutgers, btw.

Also, never pass, unless the student has serious issues, bad grades, crime. etc.

We all the help we can get.

interesting - will be interesting to see where he ends up -
the Navy option is very attractive for some kids - it is an superb education - and high level career prospects long term - if you are OK with the obligation
- if he has the grades, has the sponsorship, and the desire - and it can be a real possibility - and if he really really wants to go to Annapolis and will have to wait to hear on acceptance - he probably had to de-commit / not sign - so he could remain free .
Maybe Navy does want him to play football - maybe they would want him to do a year at Naval Academy prep.

Or maybe he forgoes football . Know a kid who chose Naval Academy - did a different sport - but could have competed on many strong D-1 programs - chose rigorous academic engineer track at Navy & opted not to pursue the athletic options

That why you should commit to a school, not a coach.

Not really committing to a school (or even the coach)l but rather committing to a program at the school. An HC change means the program is changing. As an example, suppose you chose to attend a school because you wanted to be a HS teacher and they had an outstanding secondary school teacher prep program. Then you learn that the head of the department is leaving and the new department head is strong on pre K and elementary Ed. Might you have a good reason to withdraw and attend another school which fits your goals?

That is hogwash. These coaches come into your living room, make promises to you, maybe run a certain type of offense that fits your skill-set. Then they get a better offer and they'll leave their team high and dry. But if a kid leaves for a better opportunity he's a problem.

In 2017, who the head coach is, IS the program/school.

Ryan Mallett was at Michigan where the ran a pro-style offense. They subsequently hired Rich Rodriguez who ran a spread offense which basically rendered Mallett useless. Saying that a player should keep his commitment when the school or the coach didn't keep theirs is insane.

I'm saying the exact opposite. The post I quoted said you should commit to a school. I am merely pointing out that in 2017 the coach and his program shapes the school. Obviously there are exceptions like kids who have always wanted to play at Notre Dame. So yes, I think if a coach leaves, reasonable a kid changes his mind.

Totally unrealistic. These kids spend what amounts to a full time job with their future in these coaches hands. The coach absolutely matters. It especially matters when the coach you committed to leaves. You have no idea about the new coach, if they really want you, systems, anything. Maybe they are just taking you because you committed, who knows.

The reality is for these kids that a coach matters as much if not more than the school.

This proves my point.

Jesus H Christ stop commenting so much on what a young kid says or does. How many times have we been over this. Please slap yourselves on the back of the head for me.
