RU bringing 13 to Navy Classic this weekend

Do we know the severity of the injuries?

Regardless I doubt we see them until B1G duals resume in January.

Ten DI Matches to Watch 11/22-11/24 :

This weekend will bring us Iowa vs. Iowa State, Penn State vs. Arizona State and Minnesota vs. Oklahoma State. It’s sure to be a great weekend in wrestling, and these are the best individual matches to watch. 125: Spencer Lee (Iowa) vs. Alex Mackall (Iowa State) The Iowa-Iowa State dual might be the most anticipated one of the season so far. An in-state rivalry featuring top-10 teams? Yes, please. And it gives us our first match to watch of the week, which just so happens to feature a pair of top-10 ranked wrestlers.

PS- I don't think Penn St will have Shakur face Valencia, hope I'm wrong. Also, no. 7 Alex Mackall at 125 was a Scarlet Knight a few years back. Guess he figured he was stuck behind Nick Suriano. Ranked Brandon Paetzall possibly the same calculation.

Shakur had ACL surgery after the season last year. Reading between the lines from Cael's pressers, I don't think we'll see Shakur until January.

I hope you're wrong, too.

No. 1 Spencer Lee comes into this weekend’s dual 1-0 after a major decision over Chattanooga’s Fabian Gutierrez last week. His opponent, No. 7 Alex Mackall, brings a 4-0 record into the bout. He started his season by winning the Cyclone Open before beating Bucknell’s Brandon Seidman last week. Both wrestlers should be ready to go for this weekend’s dual, but only one of them will walk away with a perfect record intact.

133: Sebastian Rivera (Northwestern) vs. Cameron Sykora (North Dakota State) Rivera is still listed at 125 on Northwestern’s roster, but he’s wrestled two duals at 133 so far this season. He’s picked up wins over Virginia Tech’s Collin Gerardi and Northern Iowa’s Jack Skudlarczyk in the first two duals of the year for the Wildcats. He comes in at No. 3 in this week’s rankings at 133 pounds, so it should make for a good matchup if he wrestles at that weight against North Dakota State. The Bison will send No. 9 Cameron Sykora to the mat on Sunday to face Rivera. Sykora brings a 2-0 record into the match as he’s coming off a tech fall over Purdue’s Marshall Craig. The Bison face Indiana tonight, so Sykora will have one more bout under his belt when he faces Rivera to cap off the weekend.

141: Mitch McKee (Minnesota) vs. Kaden Gfeller (Oklahoma State) Yet another top-10 match as we get to the 141-pound weight class. McKee is already 10-0 on the season and has won the Bison Open and the Daktronics Open. Although the Gophers lost their last dual against Rider, McKee had a strong showing with a 40-second pin against his opponent. He’s on quite the hot streak coming into this week’s dual against Oklahoma State. The Cowboys will have Gfeller on the mat at 141 pounds. Gfeller has yet to wrestle for OSU this season, but he could make his debut this weekend against Minnesota. He’s coming off a 30-7 freshman year in which he won the Big 12 title at his weight.

149: Patricio Lugo (Iowa) vs. Jarrett Degen (Iowa State) We’ve got another Iowa-Iowa State bout at 149 pounds, and it should be a good one. This match pits No. 4 Patricio Lugo against No. 6 Jarrett Degen. (By the way, every match so far has featured two top-10 wrestlers, that’s how good this weekend is.) Lugo is 1-0 after picking up a 9-4 decision over Chattanooga’s tanner Smith last weekend in the Hawkeye’s opening dual. The senior from Homestead, Fla. earned All-American honors last year for the first time, placing eighth at the NCAA Championships. He’ll face Degen this weekend, who is 4-1 on the season. He took second at the Cyclone Open before winning by major decision against Bucknell’s Matthew Kolonia last weekend.

157: Kaleb Young (Iowa) vs. David Carr (Iowa State) One more Iowa-Iowa State match for this week and then we’re done. Apologies if you’re getting annoyed with these two teams, but it’s a really good dual. Young is 1-0 this year after winning a major decision against George Carpenter in Iowa’s dual against Chattanooga. The junior is ranked No. 2 in the country heading into this weekend’s competition. Carr, on the other hand, is also 1-0 going into this weekend. His only match so far has been a tech fall victory over Bucknell’s Jaden Fisher last weekend. Although each wrestler has only wrestled one match, we once again get a bout that will see one competitor walk away with a still-perfect record.

165: Evan Wick (Wisconsin) vs. Demetrius Romero (Utah Valley) Utah Valley has two matches this week, getting their weekend started against South Dakota State this afternoon before taking on Wisconsin tomorrow. It could be a tough weekend for No. 7 Romero, as he’ll face one of the best wrestlers in the country in Evan Wick. Romero is 2-0 already this season. He’s won matches against Sacred Heart and Purdue. Wick is 5-0 on the season so far. He’s picked up wins over wrestlers from Fresno State, Army, Navy, Buffalo, and Edinboro. The match against Romero should be his toughest yet, but expect him to be ready.

174: Mike Labriola (Nebraska) vs. Hayden Hastings (Wyoming) I know, there’s a lot of good wrestlers from Penn State, Iowa, and Oklahoma State at 174, but I didn’t want this week’s picks to be too much of the same thing. We’re getting a great matchup in No. 3 Labriola vs. No. 17 Hastings. Labriola has won five matches so far, winning three of them by fall. The only time he lost was the championship bout of the Journeymen Collegiate Classic against Lehigh’s Jordan Kutler. The 2019 All-American will look to bounce back from that loss with a win over Hastings, who is a perfect 5-0 this year. The sophomore won first place at the Cowboy Open and won a major decision over Air Force’s Cody Surratt. He should have a lot of confidence going into the match against Labriola.

184: Zahid Valencia (Arizona State) vs. Shakur Rasheed (Penn State) Oh boy, here we go. Picking the top match at 184 pounds was pretty easy this week as No. 1 Zahid Valencia will take on No. 2 Shakur Rasheed when the Nittany Lions visit Tempe. Rasheed hasn’t wrestled yet this year after tearing his ACL last season, but he’s listed as a probable starter for Penn State. I probably don’t need to say too much about Valencia to get you excited for this match. He’s a three-time All-American and two-time national champion. If Rasheed is healthy enough to compete this weekend, it’ll make great entertainment. (Bonus at 184: No. 3 Taylor Venz and No. 4 Taylor Lujan will face off Sunday when Nebraska travels to Northern Iowa)

197: Patrick Brucki (Princeton) vs. Jake Jakobsen(Lehigh) Brucki is just 1-0 on the year for Princeton. He got his season started with a tech fall at the Princeton Open, but hid day was done after a medical forfeit in his next match. He’ll likely face Jake Jakobsen at 197 pounds. Jakobsen is a senior from Sciota, Pa. who has had mixed results so far this year. He took third place at the Princeton Open before having a medical forfeit at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic. His most recent match was a loss to Oklahoma State’s Dakota Geer. He’s got a tough task in front of him in Brucki, but it should be a good match.

285: Anthony Cassar (Penn State) vs. Tanner Hall (Arizona State) We’re wrapping things up with another one from the Penn State-Arizona State dual. This one gives us a returning national champion in No. 1 Anthony Cassar going up against No. 6 Tanner Hall. Hall is off to a 6-1 start this year, taking second place at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic and most recently winning two duals at home. This heavyweight bout should be one of the best this season, so make sure you’re tuning in. If you need help figuring out where to find any of these matches this weekend, check out TOM’s Live Stream Schedule for the weekend. Now go get in front of a TV, computer, phone, or whatever else you use to watch wrestling and make sure you catch these matches.

Demetrius Romero (Utah Valley) Out for the rest of the season due to injury.

I'll take (7) Steiert vs. (3) Labriola over Labriola/Hastings, and (7) Lujan vs. (3) Venz in place of Valencia/Rashad at this stage of the season.

Can't blame the kid for moving on - he was stuck behind Suriano at least for the first year when he went 125.

Some injury updates:

"Rutgers will not have 141-pounder JoJo Aragona (hamstring), No. 14-ranked 174-pounderJoe Grello (rib) and 149-pounder Nick Santos (knee) this weekend. Goodale said Aragona could go this weekend, but there is no reason to push things. The freshman 141-pounder should be ready for Rutgers’ Big Ten opener on Dec. 7 against Maryland at the RAC. That is a realistic target date for Grello as well."

Brackets up, Turley gets a rough draw. If he wins first 2 matches, get McFadden in round of 16

Pagano 1 seed, Correnti 3 seed at 197

Collucci #2 seed at 285

Potential rematch for Alvarez if seed hold in the Qtr's against LH Fehlman

Turley loses 12-5 to Austin Hiles, Michigan State's backup & ranked #118 on WS. Bad loss for him.

Hiles is a redshirt Junior who was 1-3 at B10 Tourney last year.
Agree he is not in top echelon, but not a bad depth wrestler.

I think Drew hughes is the wrestler i remember riding on top but doing nothing to turn..just being parallel....could be wrong.

Need a strong showing from Billy Janzer....Michigan state took out 3 of our wrestlers (165 &174)

Correct was up at 174 last few seasons, beat Grello twice last year and two years ago beat Pafumi and Painton. So with todays win he is 5-0 against RU
