why didnt I see this before...a treasure trove of RU highlights from late 80s on with some vids of some late 70 stuff too. For those who think they know what a great crowd sounds like at the RAC, I urge you to watch some of this. Man I can waste a whole day or two watching these vids.

Does RU Hoops Project post here?

Wow, great stuff. Thanks for posting. Looking now for some of my favorite highlights where players stepped up over the years — Charlie Weiler (UNLV), Damon Santiago, Rashod Kent, Herve Lamazana, Joel Salvi, etc.

Why The Rutgers Athletic Center was THE RAC:

Students:

1) 114-116
2) 108-110 (Without 50 bandmembers taking up 150 seats)
3) 311-317

...for years . Also, for the SHU and UNLV games, in 91, we were pretty much doubled up in 108-110 (In other words people were standing on the seats and in between the seats). Unfortunately the UNLV game was not televised due to sanctions against them if I recall correctly.

My LORD what a shame!!! Somebody needs to sit down with Sarah and Pat Hobbs and show them what the environment was like. Show them where the student seats came to, where the band stood, and how much insanely louder, and better, the experience was back then!!! I would bet you they have NO idea whatsoever.

Yes i have a slew of early to mid 90s games from the A10 on tape. If Ru was lucky they would get a 4pm game on Msg vs wvu or Temple on a weekend

Wow, have you looked into digitizing and sharing those? Sounds like an awesome library to have on tape.

Just watched some of the 2001 highlights... Rashod Kent moved insanely well for being such a large human being. Cant believe the talent we had on those teams without ever making the tournament.

The end of that NIT quarterfinal vs. PSU in 1990 at the RAC still sticks in my craw. Down 3 with three seconds left, Lumpkin, our best 3-point shooter, was not on the floor. What was Wenzel thinking?!

I go back to the day the RAC opened and the only game I recall that left my ears ringing was UNLV. Insanely loud.

Bac...

I can help you put all that on digital.

Hit me up!

if I can find them first....I was positive that I had the UMass protest game but somehow that one disappeared. Have to start digging.

I think I have some dvd copies from some of the 2000s too

I totally forget about this game and had to double take when I saw it listed. I do remember the Manhattan debacle though...I think that was 92, we let a guy go the length of the court in like 5 seconds to win the game.

in that PSU game it was not a great look, we had time to get something better....what was sickening was watching the PSU fans storm our court

I can remember two games that were that loud. UNLV, as you said, and when the women beat UCONN in '98. You could feel the pressure in your eardrums.

also remember you couldn't even get RU on radio unless you were close to wrsu signal--also,used to pay for telephone call in service to hear games on phone--wow we've come a long way
