My feelings exactly.Do we really need help at this point? I can't imagine the Big Ten only putting one team in, or putting in JHU who we beat twice.
BS!! We beat Hopkins twice and have a better record. Where's the love?
Our SOS was terrible. I guess that is what it came down to. Still a total joke though, given the fact that we beat JHU twice.[/QUOT
Selection show both guys picked RU with the biggest gripe not getting in. One said RU in Navy out
The real irony is why didn't Hopkins get penalized for its TWO losses to Rutgers and its low RPI !!!!I think the whole process is woefully bias towards the "known programs." Before the selections were made did any of you see the commentators during halftime yesterday of the B1G championship between us and Maryland? When they showed the RPI of all of the teams they were all in agreement that the RPI is totally bogus for lacrosse as compared to BB, because the sample size is too small to get an accurate account of which teams in which conferences are really stronger than other teams in other conferences, because they rarely play one another.
Still, if we got penalized for the loss against Princeton and our "low RPI of 19", I'm sure there are several teams in the tourney where we can point to their horrible losses such as Navy losing to Army in the first round of their tournament.
I feel terrible for the kids that played their hearts out. Our coach needs to use this as major motivation for next year, where we have a very strong core coming back.
Because that would be too logical for the selection committee. The real irony is why didn't Hopkins get penalized for its TWO losses to Rutgers and its low RPI !!!!
Perception matters more than head to head results. Its not right but its reality. Many people were questioning Syracuse getting a NCAA bid for mens basketball this past season but they got in because of past glory. We aren't a blueblood of lacrosse like Hopkins. Simple as that. There is no way they should have made it over us. They aren't a better team.
If we both didn't get in, it makes sense and I can live it with it, but we got the shaft.
I do not know anything about the sport, and even less about how the selection committee conducts the process. However, I read an article that stated that it has been many years since a team with an RPI as low as ours got invited. So even if reliance on the RPI is misplaced, at least it has been consistent. I am still as disappointed for the guys, but not as angry having read that.Perception matters more than head to head results. Its not right but its reality. Many people were questioning Syracuse getting a NCAA bid for mens basketball this past season but they got in because of past glory.
I assume this is true, but the reason I am less angry is that it appears that RU was not treated differently than another team would have been in this case. Sound or unsound, the RPI criteria that knocked RU out has been heavily relied upon across the board by the selection committee. RU was not singled out in this case.I guess the question becomes what is the RPI formula?
Paul Carcaterra says a lacrosse season has far too few games to for something like RPI to mean so much. I think'd I'd agree.

What I read was that the last time a team with a similar RPI got in was in 2010 when a team, I think it was Notre Dame, got in with an RPI only one place better than ours. And I certainly did not justify the system. I just said that unlike many past situations with RU athletics, it is not clear that we were denied when we would have gotten in under the usual criteria. In years past, I am not sure that is accurate. In fact, I am pretty sure it isn't. And if that is the case, you don't need a committee. Let's let it be known, the criteria is x. The computers at the end of the season will tell you who is in.
There certainly is no need for RPI during the season if you are going to discount those wins until the end of the season.
The worst part is having current coaches on the committee. That alone is reason to question this process. One of those coaches gets a 6 seed after his team is squarely on the bubble? Nice win against Denver, but no lacrosse fan believes they are the 6th best team in the country.
Two weeks ago they got absolutely destroyed by Duke, 16-1. It's laughable on its face.
Does anybody really think that if the out of conference schedules were reversed and Hopkins beat us twice, they would take us over Hopkins? If you do, I have a bridge to sell you.
