This will be the first time we play Northwestern since 2018 when we hosted them in Piscataway (remember the Ash years?). But, this weekend we're going to Evanston - the first time we've played them there since 1989 and only the fifth time we've ever played them. Many talk about how awful Ryan Field is -- even TripAdvisor has it listed as the worst stadium in the B1G -- but I have very fond memories. It is the site of my very first Big Ten game (pre-"B1G"). Back in 1997, I saw them host #11 Michigan State. The crowd was big, supportive, and you definitely got the feel of big-time football. Heck, people were actually in their seats BEFORE kickoff!! It was all a far cry from where Rutgers was at that time (we went 0-11 that year under the tutelage of Terry Shea).
All of this is to say that, regardless of where the two programs are at this time, I hope that for those heading out to Chicago this weekend enjoy the game and make some great memories.
