Best conference, fertile recruiting ground.... and you can not literally do worse than yorur predecesdor. A few tds and a conferece win and youre the toast of the fanbase. Do poorly and well the cupboard is bare blah blah. A great opportunity.

Not many power five coordinator job still left. This is a huge opportunity for the program and a big stage for Hobbs to step into an adamant that an experienced hand the hired. This Will be interesting to see unfold. We may be in a better position in a week then we were yesterday

I seriously doubt we'll get a top off coordinator because we're not going to overpay and our program is a mess. I would think a Mac level off coordinator type.

Lets face it RU is not going to get some former head coach of a P5 team to come and be their OC. I agree with ru-baby that this is a good job for an up an comer who is looking to make a name for himself as there is no way to go but up especially if you can keep Lewis as he is something you can work with.

This. We just had our OC leave for at best a lateral move. Admittedly it was to go and work with his mentor, but if this was perceived as such a plum job he wouldn't have left. And let's face it, no matter how much we think this is a job with boatloads of potential, perception is reality. I'd be happy with an up and coming MAC OC and would rather that than a P5 positions coach.

The advantage of the job is that the new offensive coordinator has no where to go but up after the results this season's results. There will be no immediate pressure. Anything more than absolutely pathetic will be a huge improvement.

There are some really good MAC type OC who are experts at the spread. We can afford any of them with ease.

Word is that we will know more by Friday.

I dont think coordinators worry about why the former OC left. Some can view this as a a chance of a lifetime
You start with the worst offense in college football and are certain to improve on that.
You should have better skill personnel this year.
If you think Lewis is the qb of the future you have a great start.
I would think most of the candidates are testosterone driven and assume they can run thru walls. But if you are 30something with an eye to the future any modicum of success here could catapult you to your dreams

The negativity of some of our fans never ceases to surprise me.

We are coming off the most embarrassing offensive year in P5 history (admittedly not a very long time, but still) and you think anything you read here is negative? This is NOT a plum job. We need a quality OC to turn it into a plum job. Semantics? Perhaps. But as of right now in December 2016, this is a vast wasteland. The right guy can help change that, but that is so much easier to say than to find.

That being said, what is this MAC OC crap? If we are going to go MAC (FCS) you get a HEAD coach. Doesn't an RU OC position pay more than a lower level head job? No way we're getting an experienced P5 OC unless he is or has been in some trouble, and no, I do not want that. But if I'm going lower than P5 (meaning not a position coach), why not target a head man somewhere with a quality offense?

How many P5 OC jobs are there in total?

When you consider hat number and the fact that they pay more than non P5 jobs you can easily see why this is a sought after position.

Secondly, a coordinator role is next in line for a hc spot so if you turn around the offense at RU you will get many a look.

Foolish to say this is not an excellent position. Now we just need to pay --even overpay given where we are- to make this a reality.

No where to go but up indeed. Also, if you think about it - if Ash (and the new OC) turn this around and make RU competitive in the Big Ten you can assume that Ash will be a hot commodity for a much bigger job. He either takes the OC with him or the OC gets promoted to HC at RU. Either one would be a pretty good outcome. So, if you believe in yourself and you believe that you and Ash can turn RU around then it is a pretty attractive job.

Semantics and disagree.
Anybody who comes here can put on there resume: Increased first quarter scoring by 250%. Increased red zone offense by 900%. Increased rushing yards by 400%.
It's all in the way you look at things. I look at the bright side and the upside. Lots to sell here at Rutgers.

Then call me a fool....this is not an excellent position.

No skilled, experienced P-5 OC is going to come to Rutgers. Our program is run by a new, unproven head coach coming off a diasterous season. There is no money, or tradition at Rutgers. The best Ash will do is find another young OC with a decent pedigree and give him a shot.

Texas is certainly better than a lateral move. I think it will take a special situation for us to get a desireable P5 OC. They aren't moving for a few extra bucks. A lower level HC is not coming here to be an OC. If they're reasonably successful where they are, they're waiting to jump to a better HC job. That leaves an up and comer -- position coach at P5, OC at lower level program.
