I thought this board could use some good news. I tried to find this week's polls for women's soccer but apparently they are not out yet. But I did find this on the NCAA site. I've never really understood how the RPI works but it is clear that being ranked #2 is a notable achievement. Hopefully the women can keep it going while on the road this weekend.

Impossible. Barchi doesnt support winning sports.

RPI is a simple metric - its 25% your winning percentage, 50% your opponents combined WP (less games against you), and 25% their opponents WP (less games against them). The official NCAA men's basketball metric also weights hope and away differently. Its basically a way to include strength of schedule.

I think its overly simplistic for this day and age of big data, but being #2 is a good thing.

"We are now #11 in the coach's poll, which is the poll that you would see cited on BTN."

That would mean we moved up 4 spots, IIRC, since I think we were at #15 last week, though I'm not sure which poll that was.

Took a look at the coach's poll.

Only undefeated & untied team in the Top 25, 2nd in RPI, no goals allowed after eight games.

11th? Two teams with multiple losses ahead of them? ORLY?

Strength of schedule. Rutgers schedule has been very week. So far #20 UConn is the only ranked team Rutgers has faced. By comparison Penn State is ranked #12 at 6-2-1 but has played the #5, #8, #19 and #23 teams. Most of the teams ranked ahead except UVa has played at least 1 top 10 team. The good news is Rutgers will have a few top 25 teams coming up that will prove if they are for real or not. Can Rutgers break Penn State streak of 16 straight Big Ten women's soccer championships?

So we are not allowed to enjoy jack sh!t huh?

Penn State has a great team too, maybe even better, we shall see when they play each other, relax. Gheesh..

BTN does a terrible job televising soccer. They have one guy with an iPhone recording it. They have no crowd. It looks like HS soccer.

I actually don't mind the response, but I would say isn't RPI a measure of schedule strength? Even if one says it's flawed, still kind of blows a hole in the accusation of a "weak schedule".

Congrats womens soccer team!

The Rutgers Ultimate Frisbee team won a national championship back in 1973-74.....

Rankings are nice, of course, but they are not that important at the moment. Keep up this level of play/success, and we will have an excellent seed in the NCAA tournament. Lose a few in the B1G, and we won't. It is as simple as that.

I am surprised to see the number of ACC teams in the top 10: #1 UVA, #2 UNC, #3 FSU, #7 Clemson, and #10 Virginia Tech. Amazing.

B1G in the top 25: #11 RU, #12 PSU, #18 Minnesota. Minnesota just beat PSU 1-0 over the weekend. Ohio State and Michigan are also receiving votes.
