I am told that her extension may be announced today after the BOG meeting. Seems to be 3 years plus.Could be 5 years.

Can she please change assistants then, people who actually know New Jersey coaches and have a map !

Coach Stringer has her daughter to make sure she is provided for in the future decades so I don’t blame her for hanging on as long as possible. Just clean out some assistants and stop bringing in kids from a thousand miles away who leave and/or don’t pan out.

Maybe she is milking it, but would you give the job up? If my bosses think I'm doing a good/great job and keep on renewing my contract why would I give it up?
If the bosses truly thought she was doing a good job the contract would have been renewed prior to the 11th hour. She is holding the athletics department hostage. It would be a PR nightmare if they don't renew.

Before I praise or knock the extension I want to know what the heck it has in it.
Length, Buyout & Salary are issues that must be looked at before anything is said.
I believe Vivian still is a good HC, but her health and age need to be considered when talking about her staying on top of the game all during the length of contract.

Salary should be a factor with bonuses for regular season and Tourney ( B1G & NCAA) performance part of a salary structured to pay more for a successful season and post season than having a high salary every year of contract.
That salary ( not bonuses) needs to be considered by Hobbs in case he ever feels that Stringer isn't up to the task and needs to be replaced and a buyout becomes a factor in that decision and
maybe would hurt the ability to hire a good replacement at a salary that replacement could expect to receive.

I fully support Hobbs extending CVS, but also feel the extension should be heavy on rewarding
performance , especially in the NCAAs, and a buyout that favors RU , especially if contract is going to be more than 2 years before it expires.

We could do a lot worse—see Eddie Jordan, Fred Hill Jr., Terry Shea, Dick Anderson, Kyle Flood, Chris Ash. My issues are with the absolute pathetic recruiting in the state and the extremely small crowds. I have already mentioned cleaning house with the assistants and bring in people who know the state. As for promotions, I don’t care if we have to give 6,800 Free tickets away to every game, get folks in the seats. Either an assistant coach or a marketing person, get out there at youth basketball games, call up high school teams, hit the county fairs this Summer, etc., PROMOTE the squad around the state. Have high school games before and after our games. Go to Flemington, Sparta, Paramus, Toms River, Cherry Hill, Mays Landing, Ewing, etc. and offer Free clinics and hand out shirts. Empty seats don’t buy hot dogs, buy hats, pay for parking, etc. Promote the team !

Agree 100%. I have felt the same way for a while. The team has not been marketed. Hate to say it, but the energy is put toward RUMBB and RUFB, while RUWBB is often overlooked, in my opinion. This, (TKR), is an example. Over the course of this season, the articles featured were FB and MBB while the women were having similar success if not more than the men and getting no coverage. It seemed like someone had to be shamed into covering the ladies success after they started getting national recognition. I said to myself for the first half of the season (including the beginning of the win streak) "Why don't they have articles about the WBB team."

And yes, market to a broader fan base. The state is diverse as well as the student pop. Lower the ticket prices, concession prices, and parking fee. Give tickets away to every HS coach in the state. Less can lead to more.

I would think this would be the job of a marketing dept. I remember a lot of praise directed at the lady who got a lot of credit for Louisville's attendance boom during the Schimmel era when they started packing their new arena. I thought she was supposed be coming to RU. I can't recall a name.

Of course, the team success will bring fans, but you also need marketing to do their part. And yes, coaches need to have a presence here in NJ.

Congrats to Coach, players, staff, and FANS. Great news. Thanks to Hobbs/Sara as well. My condolences ahead of time to all the naysayers as well.
Even I think this is a massive mistake. Shocked. Diamon Johnson leaving is the writing on the wall for me. This team looked nice divot selfish to end the season and not much like a team at all. Very disappointed in Gurella to end the year.
Shocked at the administration as this has been a failure of a program for too long now. I’m done. Call me when we hire someone new

O give me a break with the marketing. It goes by eye balls and RUWBB doesn't have many. Wrestling doesn't get much publicity on TKR or by the school maybe a few articles a year and they draw 5 times what WBB does.. Wrestling took 13th in the Nation while WBB dropped both their 1st round games in both tournaments.

Marketing doesn't get a break - it is an issue.

Look, I'm out here in AZ now - we drew a steady crowd, maybe 1500 or so, even in the worst of times, lousy team. When we won the WNIT - this is where the marketing steps in. Arizona went out on a limb with the guarantees to the "for profit" folks that run the WNIT - and ended up with almost a sell-out in the finals. And cheap "next season" tix were available before the ink dried on stories about the WNIT run. Much better attendance the next year, not only because it was a winning program but because it was constantly marketed as well.

I know from all the year's there that NJ and Rutgers are different animals from a town that is U of A and basketball (men's) obsessed. But in 16 years of following RU around I never - ever - thought that Rutgers' marketing was all that great.

I know not winning "enough" is an issue. Even though the winning percentage the last 3 years is much higher than Viv's Rutgers career average. That I can't solve. I suppose a "deep" tourney run or B1G championship would help, but actually, there are only 16 teams in the Sweet 16 (and 1 B1G tourney champion). Not really so easy.

I don’t really think it has to do with winning so to speak. IMO. Sure the marketing leaves a lot to be desired but the bottom line is every season is a broken record. Wins a bunch of games and fall flat on our faces. The program is stale at this point. People are over CVS. She’s an amazing person and a great leader but it’s over. This program lacks any sort of juice and quite frankly is a shell of its former self.

If you took any time to watch the women’s sweet 16 right down to the finals it was painfully obvious how far our program has really plummeted.

She has Hobbs backed into a corner and he cannot get rid of her unfortumatly; this team has done nothing in 10 years and nothing is going to change going forward what a shame

big mistake, she needs all new staff and she has to change her recruiting from the jon chaney school to the modern day approach all the other schools are using. this team and staff need more diversity.

You nailed it. Hobbs can’t move beyond a Hall of Fame Coach even if recent results are below expectation. This program needs the kind of excitement that the Jets are enjoying with an energetic bright YOUNG head coach. It’s same old same old, again.

If directed at me - oh, I watched every bit of it. We now live in Tucson and have season tix to WBB in years that actually have fans. And I'm a 25 year fan of the game, so I always do watch from the Sweet 16 on, as well as a lot of the beginning rounds. I was very disappointed in that I felt Rutgers played rather disjointedly. I was also worried about BYU - I wasn't happy when Arizona had to play them, either.

This list of articles is what I was referring to when mentioning the lack of coverage of the women program. And this is just dating back to March (when Mr. C.N. started covering the women's bball team down the stretch of the season). Compared to the guys, I counted something like 80+ articles for the men's team compared to eight for the women. From my recollection, that ratio gets even worse dating back prior to March.
https://rutgers.rivals.com/more_news/content/basketball

If the RU fan site wont't cover it's own team, you can't blame small crowd size on the coach, because your lack of publicizing your own team is a major factor in it. School has to continue to spruce up the RAC also. Looks very much like it did when the Nets played there.

Scroll down this list of articles and tell me how many wrestling articles you find. I counted something like (11) dating back to the beginning of March, (26) going back to around Xmas. More than a few.

This is how you show support for a program!

I understand what you're saying about the level of excitement surrounding the Jets right now, but I wouldn't use them as an example for what this program needs. Jet fans are excited about the #2 pick in the draft moreso than the coach. I would think most Jet fans are also excited to be done with Adam Gase, who was about the same age when he took the job with the Jets as Saleh is right now. After being sold that same old line of bright energetic young coach with Gase, Jets fans will wait and see before getting excited about him. He hasn't coached one game yet. The Jets nickname is "Same Ole Jets" among others

And the HOF coach has a win pct of 71% and a tourney spot each of the last 3 seasons. Yes, we hope to go further in the tourney. I'm riding the excitement of wondering how our Fr soon-to-be Soph class will do next season. How will our new additions blend into the mix? How fast will our 6-6 Fr(A. Ndour) progress? Will Martino continue to develop and take on more of the assertive scoring role that Arella played? Will Tiya continue to smooth out her foul line/elbow jumpshot? Can't wait to see Joiya get back in the mix and provide more 3pt shooting. Excited to see if we pick up another experienced post player in the portal. There's plenty to be excited about for RUWBBfans.

Oh, and I can't forget......excited to see where one of our own may go in the WNBA draft tonight!

Yes........It sounds like our program is a wreck and in need of a total overhaul. lol!

At this point it's really up to CVS and her staff to deliver results. It's apparent that the RU admin is fine with the team being a top 40 program instead of a top 10 program, like they used to be under CVS.

That being said, I can't imagine she will want to continue to coach if the team can't deliver the success she's accustomed to (which would mean regular appearances in the NCAA tournament). She was able to quickly right the ship after the 9-20 season (where she had Cappie waiting in the wings) and the 6-24 year (where they quickly pivoted to a ton of transfers), but if she can't see a path forward to postseason success, I doubt she'll want to continue on.

WOW, THIS COMING FROM YOU SAYS IT ALL. I've been pretty darn supportive of the program for a long time myself and I am also very disappointed in this. Something has been wrong for a long time now and we're just settling now and not striving. I know extensions are about recruiting but we're just dumping money and trophies down the toilet know.
I should add that the decision has been made so I wish coach and the team the best. I didn't think she needed to be pushed out the door but adding on years that will have to now be paid is my gripe.

Jets Coaches Saleh and Lafleur were highly recruited as the bright young coaches of the future. I see CVS as an icon of the past.

Just sayin!..........Adam Gase was sold as the same, bright young coach also a supposed offensive, QB 'guru'. I know he wishes he could trade W-L percentage over the last 3 seasons with the "icon of the past". For sure!!

And for the record, I'm a Jet fan, so I hope Saleh and Lefleur work out.

Unbelievable!!! Yes, losing Diamond Johnson said so much.
What will say so much is how the RU WBB team plays in the 2021-2022 season.
Remember that rosters change every year and overcoming losses is a yearly procedure.
Diamond's transfer is a big loss along with Arella leaving the program.
But all programs retool every year and how that retooling keeps the team going is what matters more than what players lost through graduation or transfer.

We can go into a panic mode and claim the program's winning ways have ended, or face the fact that CVS has been considered a top HC ( but not by some experts on this board that usually predict the world is ending every-time a roadblock is placed before Vivian) and capable of keeping Rutgers a winning program , even when everything isn't going perfectly .

So I say before any Rutgers WBB fans jump off the bridge ( some do live in the muddy waters below it so they already have jumped , some years ago and only rejoin when it's bandwagon time and first time of trouble jump back into the muddy waters they love to offer drinks from) wait till the 2021-2022 season and see how that plays out before claiming losing Johnson or any of the transfers will turn RU WBB into a disaster that Stringer can't overcome.

One good thing is CVS signed her extension and now there's a better chance that she'll be bringing in that talent that will keep RU WBB a winner.( 78-36 last 4 years)
