***Rutgers announces series with Boston College***

Bahaha! You don't seriously think this series will help B.C. in recruiting in NJ???
Maybe not, but there is the potential for it to help if they beat us a few years in a row. Whereas there is no potential to help us in NE, because there are no recruits in NE.

there are some good players in CT (see Vretman) so it's not as barren as we like to joke about.

if the argument is that there are more good players in NJ, than in NE, nobody would argue that

but I don't view this as 'throwing BC a lifeline'. Will it give them some more exposure...yes. But I view our ability/need to beat them and get a W on the schedule (which is more likely than Miami), worth the risk of the above. Esp if we can show some of the NJ prep kids that we're much better than BC. many of them will want to go to BC anyway...but beating them head to head can only help our case. and we need to get more of those kids

that's how I see this, but I respect the opposing view

I just dont agree that there is no upside. I dont agree at all.

to be bowl eligible this may help

We have games each year where we are likely underdogs vs. Ohio St, Michigan, PSU, and Mich St. We will probably see Wisconsin or Nebraska at least 1 of the 2 years as well. That would leave us with 5 losses if norms hold up. We would need to make sure we have 6 winnable games.

Winnable games: BC, Indiana, Maryland, 2 remaining OOCs, and potentially B10 games against B10 West like Northwestern, Minnesota, or Purdue.

2026
@BC
5 B10 home games
4 B10 road games
2 OOC TBD

2027
BC
4 B10 home games
5 B10 road games
2 OOC TBD

Can't wait to beat them to get a leg up on the all important New England recruiting pipeline. This series is all upside for BC and all downside for RU.

Upside only exists for BC if we think we are on the same level as them. A lot of people here are holding both ends of the straw. The downside is non existent if we beat up on BC. I have no doubt from 2006-2014 we would mop the floor with BC. We should still fair well.

If the program is at a point where we will endless go .500 against BC, well, then we will endlessly be below mediocre as a program. At that point, you'd have to blame the exodus of NJ players (there are already many) who go to BC on our shortcomings, not the two times in 7 years that we play them in Piscataway.

Regional rivalries are good for CFB. If Ash is the guy, then, this should prove an easy Win, an easy road trip, visibility in our region of BC actually being beneath Rutgers as a program - and you cannot disagree that parochial high school families feel otherwise at the moment when analyzing the universities as a whole.

Grow up people.

I like the idea of regional rivalries but it's a mistake to re-establish the BC relationship. We've given BC a lifeline when they're desperate to revive the NY/CT/NJ recruiting area that they've been pretty much frozen out from.

They haven't been frozen out of anything. They will ALWAYS get kids from NJ who want the Catholic school vibe or to be surrounded by other stuffy rich kids. That's the majority of the NJ recruits they pluck on occasion (there are exceptions of course). I'm all for regional rivalries. I'm also for an easier game at this point given where our program is.

Rutgers has bigger things to worry about than BC. NJ kids aren't heading north when they can join any of the Big Ten teams.

I used to enjoy the roadtrips to UConn, Syracuse, Pitt etc. Having ONE driveable, winnable, OOC game isn't the end of the world. I for one am looking forward to it.

And on the recruiting side, Syracuse plays in NJ seemingly every year. How is their NJ recruiting going again? They have the good QB but we got one too.

I thought after the way BC screwed over Rutgers and others in the way they left the BigEast we were never playing them again.

Seems the new admin doesn't know past history.

Just wondering, how is BC beneath Rutgers in anyway? This year's recruiting class?

Cancel the UCLA games and bring on WEST VIRGINA

(We need to go back to this shade of scarlet)

So the rivalry is back. Heck, if Penn State can play Pitt again, why the hell not?

As far as those who are still upset over Boston College leaving the Big East... get over it. The Big East sucked and we would have left the Big East for the Big Ten no matter what once invited.

Having the two biggest TV market play each is too much fun and besides, it is a nice way to play in the Rose Bowl. But yeah, I would love a series with WVU as well.

I like it from the Regional perspective, and a very do-able road trip in a fun city.
I wasn't as pissed at BC as I was with Syracuse and Pitt leaving the Big East in basketball (OT), the best league in the country at that time..

Ugh... Let's play these game at Yankee Stadium and REALLY piss off the fanbase.

this game has Yankee Stadium written all over it..book it

Um, no it doesnt.

"Rutgers will visit Boston College's Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, Mass. on Sept. 12, 2026 and host a return visit at High Point Solutions Stadium on Sept. 11, 2027."

Ash and hobbs won't make the same mistake of the previous administration. Doubt we play at Yankee Stadium again as a home game anytime soon.

this was one of my favorite games on the schedule from the old Big East and East Indies. BC being a catholic school has always had an in with the North Jersey Parochial schools - that will never change. This renewed rivalry may help us with recruiting with the North Jersey parochial schools.

Hmmmm maybe we should have stepped out and let them play each other, that worked out so well last time.

Wow didn't realize it was that far in advance. And we have people all worried about a series 10 years from now!

So we're playing the French Whores again? Wonderful. Nothing like giving exposure to a recruiting rival.
Swapping in Boston College for Miami?

That's a FAIL...
Completely agree. Would much rather play Miami.

Yup. My bad. That was original deal. Today's deal addsome 2 more games earlier..

"Rutgers will host the Eagles in the opening game of the series on Sept 21, 2019 inside High Point Solutions Stadium. Then, Boston College will play host to the Scarlet Knights on Sept 3, 2022."

Either way, both home games on campus, and both away games on their campus.

If we are going to drop a big time program for a Northeast school, just schedule Army, plus it is a GREAT place to see a game.

I never said in my post that there were recruits in NE. I said that I think Ash believes it will help recruiting. I think he wants RU to be the premiere program in the northeast. To do that he wants to play, and beat, all the local competition. Send the message to the kids that RU is the program to be in. I think he believes playing the local teams and beating them puts RU in the drivers seat across the board in the area. Whether it works, or is true, I don't know. The obvious downside is if we lose. But losing hurts regardless of to whom we lose so he wants to be the best in the area before we move our OOC games across the country or way down south. Just my opinion.

Why are you in favor of more regional rivalries like BC over playing Miami OOC? Next up, Ash will cancel the UCLA series & add Fruit U.
Ash wants wins instead of out of conference losses. The B1G East division is so brutal that wins will be hard to achieve.

This sucks.

Miami made way more sense for our recruiting....now we let BC into NJ instead.

Dumb dumb dumb.

Really? In down years Miami is better than Rutgers. If Richt gets things ramped up, a blowout loss will help RU in Fl? BC recruits certain NJ kids, mostly Catholic school kids. There has been no impact on their recruiting due to conference affiliation

wait, rutgers dodging miami? wow. Cuse is keeping their series with LSU, Wisconsin, Notre Dame and Maryland. I guess the canes are back.

I like this move. Hopefully, we don't give up our 2020 trip to UCLA in the Rose Bowl that I see listed on FBS website. $$$$

I used to love playing the academies when we were in the Big East, now in the BIG TEN we have to upgrade the itinerary. BC is P5, Army is not. Besides RU values the players' knees plus a week of preparing for an offense (triple option) that they won't play again. I don't want to play the academies anymore.

nothing to gain playing BC. Could beat them 1000-0 and it means nothing. Barely any recruits in NE, nationally nobody cares, doesn't excite NJ kids, the only positive is less travel time by plane.

If Ash wants an easier win he should schedule Buffalo

Isn't BC a better program than Rutgers, by any measure?

App.com has a story on the newly scheduled series. They run all of their RU football stories with this same picture of Chris Ash taken during the Michigan game.

What is the point of continuing to use this picture in every story?
