He won 8-7. He still looks a little lost out there but he found a way to win so that is a positive. How did Correnti do?
Gross losing like this is a bit disappointing.... Was hoping he could be an X factor before the season began.

He just got majored by UR cal poly wrestler... so we're going to be weaker at hwt then I originally thought thats all. Gross did beat out Normandia and Mcdonald for the starter spot so is it wrong to be hopeful he may turn out to be a unexpected surprise?Disappointing? Really? Just what were u expecting? Gross hasn't wrestled in 4 years...And he hasn't been a HWT either...

And up at Penn St true freshman , NJ's 4x state champ Nick Suriano, beat 4th ranked Conner Schram of Stanford , 3-0.
I can see his career being similiars to Anthony Ashnaults.
Your making it sound like I called him a disappointment when I said was disappointed in the way he lost. Theres a big difference. The wrestling season is 9 days old....let's let the kid wrestle some more matches before calling him "disappointing" ....

Thats because it's the truth.Lets' be frank here..huh? Most of the guys that get their coolyans in a bunch, are the wannabe's who are involved in this program, some of the staff that are dillusional, and RU fans who either never wrestled, and if they did, they are living vicariously through these kids.Truth be told,Correnti looks defeated out there and I will put money on it he won't last.I saw the same"put his head down when he talks, unsure of himself" demeanor that Camp had.Believe me,I don't want this kid too quit or leave.I was comparing him too a better version of DJ Russo. The kid is either sucking weight,or content with that state title.I know that feeling all too well.Gross is lucky if he goes 500 this year.He looks like he is swimming through a restaurant to get too the all you can eat buffet at Golden Coral. All he is doing is pushing and pulling and not attacking.I'm sick of the "he's rusty" comments.the kid is 20 years old.He is in the prime of his life and has been doing this drill for his whole athletic career. He should be attacking and be in shape.Stop making excuses! Excuses are like a-holes..everyones got one.I shouldn't admit this, but I can't get Creedo's dancing Panda comment out of my head.
got that text earlier today.. Suriano is for sure on another level. A top 3 finish this year isn't out of question . We cant stress enough how important it is to have elite guys scattered throughout your weights - it can really raise the level for the weights above and below that wrestler.
We are slowly building that depth and injecting our lineup with kickass guys. Great to see.

That's silly. If he is anywhere close to Suriano I would sign up for that now!Down the road, I could see Paetzell and Suriano in some great matches at 125.
Are coolyans like cojones ? LOL !
Correnti should do like his older bro Mauro and eat like there's no tomorrow and be a 284 pound heavyweight, and enjoy life.
Also. Why wrestle Correnti if he is cutting so much weight? Why not redshirt him let get used to the weight and wrestle open tournaments. Mulligan has a easier time making it and looks great to start the season. Honestly the key for this team is to limit bonus points up top. I hope we are up by at least 10 going into 197 next week or we are in trouble.

I'm also curious why Brandon Paetzell would travel to Cali , but not wrestle any of the 3 matches, when he could have stayed behind and wrestled in Binghamton and gotten some good tourny experience ? Or didn't he travel to Cali ?
Big question - What's the match cut off before needing to make a decision on a redshirt? In football it's by the 4th game.
The 4th game is not the cutoff for redshirting, once you play one snap you have burned your redshirt. You are thinking about a Medical Hardship(medical redshirt). Once you step on the mat in an RU singlet in one dual meet or one tournament(if you are not registered unattached), you burn your year.

Bill..certainly agree with you on Gross' work ethic.I wouldn't say Billy Smith set the world on fire his last year either. He is a heck of a nice kid,but choked very badly in key matches and at the NCAA's.Gross on the other hand( and I maybe contradicting myself) does go after his opponents, but his technique seems so limited.Gravina's got his slide by,Dip's got his tilts,Ash and Theo cradles,Gross looks like a 3rd place district place winner with his skills, instead of a dominant 2 time state champ. Ok,maybe we can give the benefit of the doubt with him.4 years is quite a layoff, and it's not like we are wrestling Centenary,Kean and Montclair State every weekend. In fact, Gross got tossed into a meat grinder.I would think that he should slim out a little and be a lighter more athletic heavyweight given his short stature.i would of thought he could wrestle 197 and Mulligan jump up to heavy given his long physique.I guess Goodale and company know alot more than me,with what they are doing, given the success we have. Correnti,I am still kind of worried about.I know people are keeping away from rebuttling too me,because they feel like I am baiting them, but truth be told,I think someone needs too sit down with Correnti and figure out whats going on..The kid was such a force out there in hs,and although college is a different story,he looks like he's giving up.I get it,he's a freshman, under alot of pressure, very tired and weak from the drastic weight cut ( been there done that for RU),but maybe he should be redshirted.I know the plan is redshirt Mulligan,Correnti wrestles 197,Gross stays at heavy,Mulligan wrestles next year,Correnti reshirts, and Gross finishes up his last year setting up 3 years of those two.By the way,my intent is not ill will towards these young men.In fact,It makes me upset too see a kid like Correnti so slimmed out struggling for a spot on the team making it work.In that regards,he is true team player.I still don;t know what the heck is going on with Giraldo.Totally not into this..serioulsy.This is the kid who beat Earl Hall, and basically took down NCAA champ Cody Brewer at will.Looks totally disinterested.Creedo
I think we have been spoiled for 4 years in dual meets with Billy Smith closing out the matches at 285. Gross is a nice kid, trying hard but is no Billy Smith. He works hard in practice and hopefully improves during the year. If not that is what we have. The same with Correnti. He is cutting weight, most likely for the first time so let's see how he adjusts. We will struggle up top so let's hope we are far enough ahead to counter. If not, so be it.

Paetzell may not be close to Suriano now, but, he is a very hard worker that just needs to stay healthy and keep learning. I think Paetzell has a lot of potential.
