Rutgers Athletics are a Joke

So a few weeks ago Pike is somewhere between Rupp and Wooden and today Hobbs can't pick a coach?

Look, this program is clearly on the upswing. There is no doubt about it. But the idea that we will be moving upward every single game just isn't realistic. We're just not good enough to survive a bad effort. NOBODY plays at the same level every single night. It's not human.

To say he's just like Ash shows ignorance at a level not even seen on these boards very often. This was a bad game. Borderline inexcusable. Get over it.
To be fair Pike has only finished dead last both years. He can't finish last this year or the Ash comparisons will be valid.

It's funny.....there are people here who never post on the Basketball board and probably don't even follow basketball.

But, they heard Rutgers played a bad game and lost to Fordham and they just came by to Pile On..... that's some real funny stuff.

OP back... it’s just sad because I’m exactly the kind of fan RU needs to keep around. I’m not an alum. Don’t even really know any alumni. I’m just a diehard sports fan who loves NJ and college sports so I adopted RU.
I was a loyal football season ticket holder from ‘06 til last year, and I’ve just gotten very into hoops.
Now I’m basically done with football and they’re close to pushing me off from basketball.
We just need a friggen winner around here and we aren’t close with really no hope.
It’s too bad

I don't think fans actually watch basketball...which is OK, but led to crazytown like NCAA bubble or NITs this year.

I can go up and down a lot of Power 5 results so far this year for unranked or rebuilding rosters with a score looking like today. It's all relative....RU should not lose to Fordham.....Fordham should not lose to Maine 5 days ago.

There were quite a few items lost in the final score that screams out a transition may be happening.

There were some possessions where Kiss or Mathis initiated the offense, with Geo off the ball.

There were many opportunities for Shaq Carter and others in the post, many times they didn't dump the ball inside and trust the big man to maneuver and draw fouls or try and score.

I thought Harper and Mathis played well combining for 18 points....add in Carter's 8 and you have 26 points out of 3 newcomers.

There's a potentially 5 new players or 7 right now on the roster that can get you double figures any night. Doorson and Doucoure and likely McConnell aren't capable yet but McConnell could if he was forced to play more.

70 points should get RU a win most nights.

Do you think this team has 15 Ws in it? Riding a three game losing streak into the Pru, do you have any confidence we’ll be better than 0.500 through 10 games?

Nope not in this league. I think we'll have more league wins than last year but unless we grow up really fast chance of a .500 season is slim to none.

“I was a loyal season ticket holder when they were good”...lets define “loyal”...you have no allegiance to the school, that’s fine, but no offense you sound like you’re not much more than a fair weather fan. ‘06? You haven’t suffered a damn thing. And with more perspective than you, I know Pike has us on the right track. I know you’ll be back when we go dancing taking about how you’ve been loyal since ‘06.

No sarcasm whatsoever. Pikiell is not a B1G coach and definitely not a next level coach. He without a doubt has brought some marginal improvement to this team...though it’s hard not to do that after the last guy. He is the equivalent of Ash next year.

Dude as you can tell by my thread I was pissed the **** off on Saturday but what kind of drugs are you on? This is some of the dumbest shit I’ve ever seen you write here, and we all write a lot of dumb shit from time to time, but seriously?

Close to pushing you off basketball? LOL....that's funny stuff. Pike has us going in the right direction. Have you been around to watch bb during the Hill and Jordan years. If no NIT by next year and definitely no NCAA by 2020 then I would be concerned.

I was steaming after that game. There are lots of times I go to post something, then I think the better of it and end up deleting it. This wasn't one of those times.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter whether or not I posted it. That's how I feel. Maybe equating Pikiell to Ash is a bit much; that I'll acknowledge. But what you guys are feeling optimistic about I'm just not seeing. Remember back in the days of Bannon and Waters when the RAC was rocking for big games? The energy was tangible and I could feel my lungs vibrate from the noise in the place. Ranked Big East teams routinely fell in the RAC (and let's not kid, the Big East schedule was just as hard if not harder than the B1G). But away, those teams flat out sucked. And ultimately, neither of those guys could get us in the postseason (the REAL postseason, not the NIT). I see no difference between Pikiell and those guys. The team is playing hard (except against BU and Fordham) and keeping games close. But when it counts, they just can't close the deal. I look at the schedule and I'm confident March will be spent at home and the team will fail to break 0.500 with a third consecutive 14th place finish. People are saying Pike has the team going in the right direction. Well yeah...it's hard to replicate the futility that Jordan brought. But from the recruiting to the game strategy to the level of improvement year-over-year? I'm not seeing a marked difference versus those other guys...or Rice even. It's year 3. This ain't football with a 80-man roster. You gotta start winning. We're just going to have to agree to disagree.

Set the bar so low that any bit of improvement makes you the next messiah.

Rutgers has done exactly what I expected this year. Beat a bunch of nobodies but any time a team shows up with some resistance, the team folds like origami.

Hobbs simply cannot pick them. He is so wet behind the ears as an AD he has no idea what makes a good coach or a poor coach.
Either ignorant or clueless but either way terrible

FYI, if we beat SHU there is still a path to the NIT this year

Don’t worry, it’s all EWAIT A MINUTE, THATS ASH'S LINEddie Jordan’s fault. Blame his recruiting. Once Pikiell and his stable staff have their kids, everything will be fine. Oh, wait ...
Wait a minute, thats ash's line
