Rutgers Athletics Radio Show Featuring Pat Hobbs / January 11 7:30-8:30 @ Quaker Steak-Edison

some on here act like this game is in Siberia--really shows how provincial or cheap many are--why not just support our team -- the pain and suffering some profess won't be that severe--- are we just fair weather fans

Time to stop the whining, suck it up and take one for the TEAM. Go to the game at Yankee stadium.
Yes, having to go to Yankee Stadium for a home game sucks.
But do you support the team, or do you support them only if it is convenient for you?
The team needs the fans support.
Think of how the team will feel if the stands are empty or there are no loud cheers. (Boy, we showed "them"--who is "them?")
Hobbs has said he did not make the deal, but he is honoring it. Too late to back out.
The front runners of our fanbase like to say we are NYC's team, and we mock Syracuse and UConn as not being NYC's team.
The front runners of our fanbase mock attendance of other teams at their regular season and bowl games.
How will it look if Yankee Stadium is half empty?
Rutgers is a member of the greatest collegiate athletics conference.
Think and act B1G, and not like small children.

This is why fans unfortunately need to make a stand.

I'm tired of stand takers. Whether it is because we didn't fire Coach (X) soon enough. Or didn't schedule the teams you think are sexy. Or don't serve the food you like at the venue. Or hired and/or fired Athletic Director (X).

The one quantifiable constant is the folks we are competing with are spending more money than we are. I presume we all want to win. No bucks, no Buck Rogers.

So you might see why I don't follow the "To make things better I need to de-fund the thing i love" theory.

Is this becomes a regular or semi-regular thing, are you guys okay with this?

No. Our group is having shirts made up for the game:
HOBBS-WE ARE HERE UNDER PROTEST!

That will show the administration not to mess with us fans!

Seriously, however, I think Hobbs got the message, but it is too late for this year. If there is a ferry, we are going to take a ferry from Highlands/Atlantic Highlands, which is alway a fun trip.

Please explain to the group how playing there makes us more money?

I know it makes the Yankees money since we are being charged to play there. But still now sure how Rutgers is making anything on this.

Nobody seems to know that one. LOL

Maybe it will not be measured in ticket sales alone. Maybe the positive exposure in NYC and nationally (ahem) could translate into other tangible benefits (merchandise sales) and intangible benefits (being further cemented as NYC's P5 team). Yeah, it's a stretch, but that whole issue is Hobbs' and Rutgers' problem, not ours.

We played a HOME BE game there in 2011? I had no idea.

Not my point. Again, this sucks, but some here are acting like we've played up there 10 times in the last 3 years. I mean "enough is enough"? Lol com'on man!

Of course not because it's an entirely different scenario. LOL

An away game. Fine

A big marquee OOC game. Ditto.

A HOME conference game? Do you see why there might be a tad bit of angst by the ticket and fan base?

Don't boycott the game out of spite. Be there to support the team. Getting into the Bronx isn't that hard and there are plenty of bars to go to around the stadium.

I am renewing my season tickets so even if I don't go Rutgers will still have sold 2 tickets for this.

But I did go down from 4 to 3 and now just 2 because my kids aren't really that into it and my Dad at 87 can't really do it anymore

It's not that easy either, especially if you live south or west of New Brunswick. And we get robbed of the tailgating experience. While the bars near Yankee Stadium might provide the alcohol part of tailgating, they certainly don't provide the food experience.

But hobbs said during the radio show that our tailgate is inside the stadium watching the wrestling match :okay:[roll][winking]

I posted the glass half-full answer in another thread (which is far from how I feel about the YS game situation), but...
In your mind, pay an extra $15/game for the 6 other home games at HPSS and then pretend the game at Yankee stadium is just a free bonus that you can choose to go to or not for all the love and support RU has thrown our way.

And Hobbs would even give us a reacharound?

This is all in jest. It's just one of those RUTGERS THINGS that Rutgers does so well. The old RU SCREW. But I don't want to penalize the team and not support them and stay home like a baby and cry over it. We will make a day of it.

Hobbs is already the best AD we have ever had.

And we have the whiniest fan base in college football. This thread is exhibit A.

Thank you Cali. The man raised $45M for facilities this year for donations. As far as I'm concerned this gives him an out. We could be playing this game with Julie as AD, Fludd as HC and no facilities upgrades whatsoever in any sport.

Take the train and subway or just drive in. Really, the drive to Yankee stadium isn't bad at all. Last few times I did it, didn't hit any traffic and the parking there is pretty easy.

Many spout that we're NYCs team and yet aren't willing to make a relatively easy trip. Fans of other schools travel way longer to get to their home games at their schools stadium for God's sake. PSU fills their 100,000 seat stadium every week and a good amount of those fans live way more than 2 hours away.

yeah its not what I had in mind for a tailgate, the people interested in wrestling will go but most us arent going to make it a 12 hour day inside Yankee Stadium

For a HOME game at their own place.

What a novel concept.

So you just refuse to go to a game to support your team because it's not at home? Stellar fans we have. Yeah it's not ideal and I hope they don't do it again but come on. There's other ways to protest.

Support your team. It's really not that inconvenient.

So someone from Flemington, who typically has a 35 minute ride to New Brunswick is now looking at a 1.5 hour ride to Yankee Stadium. Or they can take the 35 minute drive to New Brunswick, get on a train that takes an hour to get to Manhattan, and then spend another 20 minutes on the subway.

Sure, it is not impossible. But for someone who has a routine to attend games at Rutgers Stadium, adding 1-1.5 hours to their trip each way and removing tailgating kind of puts a damper on the gameday experience.

I don't know if, and doubt that, this is making us any more money than a regular home game.

I was objecting to the "I'm not going to buy tickets or withhold other funding to get what I want" notion.

It's about the money.

Slate
Roll Tigers - To beat Alabama, Clemson had to become Alabama.
"The Southeastern Conference—especially the sliver of the SEC that’s based in Tuscaloosa, Alabama—wins the most football games because it invests the most in winning football games...It was clear from watching the last two title games that Clemson is SEC-level serious about putting a national title–grade product on the field."

BC just announced they will play UMASS at Fenway.

So stupid.

Back in September I sent an email to Hobbs & Sarah about the announcement. I asked if season ticket holders could opt. out. Here is the reply I received from Sarah:

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your feedback in regards to our wrestling/football double header at Yankee Stadium. I also want to thank you for your support of Rutgers Football through your season ticket purchase. You are critically important to our program's success.

The football game against Maryland at Yankee Stadium was agreed upon in principle over a year ago. We tried to improve the overall experience for our fans by bringing the wrestling match to Yankee Stadium. The overall exposure gained for both programs through this one of a kind event is very exciting; however, we also understand that taking a home game away from campus is challenging for some of our most loyal season ticket holders.

As with any new program or initiative, we will evaluate what we did well, what we can do better, and how we can continue to add value to the season ticket holder experience. This event at Yankee Stadium is no different; we are not only going to work as hard as we can to create a really memorable and unique experience for 2017, but we will evaluate every aspect before we make any decisions about future games.

Again, thank you for your support. We will need you in Yankee Stadium on Nov 4, 2017 to cheer on our wrestling and football teams. You are the difference!

All my best,
Sarah

PS. As I shared above, we want you to attend the game and support our student-athletes on November 4, 2017. But if you are unable to make it, TixCity (link pasted below) is the exclusive secondary ticket partner for Rutgers Athletics and we are confident there will be a robust secondary market for this game.
What got me a bit peeved was her PS and what I highlighted in bold. Here was my response to her:

Thank you Sarah for your reply.
Obviously, if you feel confident that there will be a robust secondary market for this game, Rutgers should give us (season ticket holders) the option to opt out of this game and RU could reap the benefit of making even more money on the secondary market!
I hope the powers that be reconsider this option for us season ticket holders. If not, this will most likely be my last year supporting RU football.

I did not her back from her, nor did I expect her to. I don't blame her or Hobbs, their hands were tied from the last group of morons that ran Athletics at RU. I do plan on renewing, but I will buy those crappy tickets and return them to Sarah so she can sell them on the secondary market because she feels that there will be a robust market for this game! o_O
