PISCATAWAY, N.J. (June 5, 2019)Gustavo Sosa, a Rutgers baseball signee, was selected in the 19th round of the MLB Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday. The catcher from Staten Island was taken as the 567th overall pick. He has until July 12 at 5 p.m. to decide whether to sign a professional contract or enroll at Rutgers. This marks the third-straight year at least one Scarlet Knight signee was drafted by an MLB organization.


“I want to congratulate Gus and his family on his accomplishments, including his selection in the MLB Draft,” interim head coach Phil Cundari said. “We are very excited for him and are looking forward to his ongoing development and future growth.”
