Basketball Rutgers Basketball Big Man Lathan Sommerville Enters Transfer Portal

I don’t remember what Wolf was like. But I do remember a lot of fans on here talking about him being a stud.
He looked like a 6'7" center. He made a nice alley oop pass to Cliff last year though. Idk the next time we will see a big to big alley oop at Rutgers.

Solid list, lot of Money paying schools. He def requested a number RU was not willing to pay.

Unfortunately we will spread our money around for a bunch of Tyson Acuff and Jordan Derkack types, heck we will need about 5 players

I could see Sommerville developing into a Great Esobor type player in a couple of years. He needs to play alongside another big who can rebound and defend. I don’t see him as a great fit here alongside Grant. Grant will have more upside due to his athletic ability.

Remains to be seen if the Big$ schools offer anywhere near the $1mil he wanted from RU. I'm sure a ton of schools would give him a few hundred thousand and develop him to be a better all-around player in 1-2 years. I bet Pikes did the same.

What’s the point of a ‘do not contact’ tag ? how would he know who’s interested ? through an agent ?

Bulkshit. Michigan State has 3 centers and doubtful one of them is making close to $500000. They probably get paid that combined. Now we need a rim protector who also is an offensive player and that cost a million and we do not have that for 1 player. We are screwed 10 worse by losing Lathan. But you are to blind to see that.
MSU has two BILLIONAIRES who fund the team, one who was a walk on for Izzo, you will never hear about what players are getting there as it is taken care of inhouse

Oh, well that IS contact. Kind of a silly distinction.
I assume the point is that he’s not fielding any inquiries directly. Everything must start with his agent. I have no idea if this is the new norm or what. But that’s how the podcast described it.

Hmmmm. We had 2 lottery picks and 1 highly sought after transfer portal big in the starting lineup. And we had a losing record?
Bad roster construction, one of the lottery picks is a wing that had to take on the roll of a center because there was no one to fill that roll on the team. Main reason I feel like this is a good transfer for all involved.

Richie reported that Lathan asked for 7 figures. Thats why he’s in the portal.
Get the argument straight. Clueless posters talking about Lathan this past year preventing Pike from getting a rim protector and threatening to leave. No one commented about this year except you . Are you confused ?

Huh? No. Richie just said it in the latest podcast. Did you listen to it? He mentioned the thing from last year again in it too.

College hoops is a total cluster F. If I care at 10% of the level I did pre NIL, that is probably an exaggeration.

Who cares? He’s going to the team that finished dead last.
Who cares? I guess the dude who it meant so much to that he said he'd shit if it happened. Other than that, I care, be able to see how he develops at this same level. Well, at least until next portal window when he moves again.

I liked Grant but I do feel like we had optimism about Wolf too after his frosh season. I think the jury is still out on how good he will be.
I’m in the same boat, I think Grant has potential, but much of his time on the court he was left completely unguarded as teams focused on Dylan and Ace. He may find that he draws a lot more defensive attention next year. Hopefully he adapts, but I don’t think you count on it.

If true - potential list of offers maybe BS.
Sounds like Pike said bye bye.

Sounds like he may be uncoachable.

Nah - it’s all about money. Wasn’t worth it to us to pay what he wanted. The top dogs can get better. So he found a team willing to go into their pocket for his services. That simple. It’s no guarantee he beats out their center either by the way.
