Basketball Rutgers Basketball suffers road loss to Ohio State on Wednesday night

Rough half after the good shooting early. OSU can’t miss and we went back to no-pass offense.

And Cliff‘s ankle will be stiffening up over halftime as they ice the injury. Gonna hurt a lot in the second half.

GG if he wants to take the next step he needs to dribble drive and develop a step back off the dribble drive. If he does not or will not start putting the ball on the floor & create he will be Palm 2.0. I think the game is playing a little fast for him right now

The hardest part about watching this team right now is how soft the defense is. We don't get to loose balls, we don't do all of the tough things that Pike has built this on.
all the things we used to be great at (rebounding and defense) seem to be gone. All the things were weren't good at... 3 pt d. , 3pt shooting, scoring, foul shots, we're no better. 8 years in. Disappointing.

Guys don’t feed him though. Cliff lost his best friend when Paul left. End of the half Simpson drives to basket and Cliff collapses to the basket. Derek takes the shot (misses) and Paul would have fed Cliff for the power dunk.
DS is a chuck and no part of team player

If Ohio state shoots semi normally from three wed we down like two points. I’m not claiming we are good but we have not really done anything that bad this game. Some people are truly incapable of looking at anything but the scoreboard.
We are giving up open 3's but they also hit a few contested 3's. Our 3 point defense hasn't been good but 9-15 at 60% is an outlier shooting number clearly

since “OSU never fouls” they had some to give and killed our offense on that possession

this is the kinda stuff that makes me worried he wont know what to do with dylan and ace if they dont play A+ defense in his brain
They’re a whole different level of prospect than Gavin and more well rounded so thankfully that won’t happen but something needs to change. Pike has to adapt to 21st century basketball; run some creative and imaginative sets, allow your talented scorers to play through mistakes(Gavin). We’re giving up 50 a half regardless it’s not like the defensive focus is working

We can only win if we hold our opponents below 65. Not happening tonight.

Yup..the only way RU wins tonight is keep OSU in the 60s..does anyone think we are just going to play D

Even if osu cools off they still are outrebounding rutgers with all their made shots

Damn would been a big 3 from Simpson there

As bad as everyone says we are playing the difference is just OSU shooting out of their minds from 3
They are getting clean looks based on faster passing and our inability to close on the shooters. They are creating their offense at the expense of our slower, weaker, shorter roster.

So play Iso/Hero Ball?

Isn't it on the staff to run plays to get players shots?
It shouldn't be the players responsibility to create their own shot every possession.
What exactly is the staff doing then?

Made shots take away Rutgers defensive rebounds so it's the opposite effect

The last few years we’ve always been able to dig deep in these games, find stops and fight our way back in. Let’s see what this team has in the first 5-6 minutes of second half.

The half court defense isn’t that bad. A couple breakdowns. We are getting beat down the court in trnanstion because of ineffective offensive possessions resulting in penetration and kick outs.

The problems are foundational - poor shooting, zero development from Cliff, small guards.

Most of the problems folks mention are symptoms of the above.

Worst team in Pike’s tenure
Bottom line Rutgers can't have poor recruiting classes and expect to successfully compete in the B1G Ten.Player development also a big question mark for so many players on the roster.
