Just for fun.. list a few of the factors that would be REQUIRED for the biggest upset in school history. I'll start:

1) 3 TD receptions to Caroo
2) 3-4 OSU turnovers
3) DLine plays game of their lives
4) Few breaks on penalties.
5) OSU not clicking on all cylinders

no TOs committed by Rutgers
2 interceptions by Rutgers and 3 fumble recoveries
Penalties against OSU negate two TDS
6 sacks by Rutgers defense

if pigs fly?

I'd guess we'll need to score at least in the mid 30s and most likely +2 to 3 in the TO battle. I think to win it would have to be shootout where we're aided a lot by turnovers.

As pleased as I am with our game yesterday, beating OSU would require so many things to happen that I don't think it is possible. My hope is that we can hang with them and beat the line.

Win TO battle
Special teams TD
defensive TD
Few guys get food poisoning from the team dinner Fat Cats

No big plays by OSU. They will score, but make them drive and use the clock. Then RU needs to do the same to answer. Keep the game close then hope for a blocked kick or interception to get a short field for a final drive and game winning score.

Any 80 yard runs by Elliot or 60 yard passes by either OSU QB and it will be a long night.

Lock Ezekiel Elliot and Barrett in their hotel rooms and don't let them out?

Seriously, these two have to be contained on offense. Hold Elliot to under 125 yards and Barrett to less than 2 TDs. Win the turnover battle. Block a kick or extra point. Janarion Grant has a day like he had against WSU.

Only chance is if Cardale Jones plays QB. OSU is less of a spread team when he is at QB.

I'll be judged as a bad fan or a guy who settles for mediocrity for this post but I don't care if we win. We have our first EVER nationally televised ABC game. We don't need to win. We need to show the country our fans and stadium rock. They need to know we play hard. They need to understand we can be a player and all we need is some time.

OSU does an ooops and shows up in New Brunswick, Canada, and has to forfeit.

the entire osu team decides they play drunk to make it a challenge. ...then they end up losing that challenge.

Was watching the Big 10 Replay vs PSU. With that read option, one guy misses and SEE YOU later. They don't even have to pass that much, which on paper might not be the worst thing since our secondary has been a sore point.

6 turnovers for OSU and none for RU.

I think we would need a perfect storm. Flawless RU football at the top of its game; no stupid missed calls from the refs; and OSU would have to have serious issues on the day. I would love for us to win this game, but I don't think this will be a squeaker like MSU was, let alone a win. But I would never be happier than if the team were to make me eat some crow on this one.

I think this is probably true. But I also think Meyer knows that we would struggle with a mobile QB so I think it's very unlikely we'll see Jones. I think we'll see mostly Barrett at QB w/Miller taking some snaps as well. If they build up a big enough lead, maybe we'll see Jones.

They will need to turn it over a few times and we will need to sustain some drives to keep their offense off the field. Won't be easy, but our guys can do it.

As I recall last year, sitting in the rain in Columbus, our offense simply looked lost for most of the game until OSU had all their backups in. I rewatched on TV, and this didn't show up as much as in person, but we looked seriously out-manned at every position both on O and D.

So... not really sure what to expect this season. We'll presumably be less awed. We're at home. Our O line is very different (a lot more mobile I think) and is starting to click together a little bit. Relative success w/MSU hopefully gave our players some confidence to play against the big boys. Our RBs are a year stronger and more experienced. I think McDaniels will bring something a little different (we're not out-muscling OSU in the trenches, so we better get creative).

So, if we can score against their first team, then turnovers could keep us in the game. And if we can stay in contact w/them score-wise, then we always have a chance (I know, thank you Captain Obvious). But I think it's a really big ask.

I've watched most of all their games this season, and they're only just now starting to really play well. I think they've mostly shed their early season ugliness. Like a lot of championship teams, they kind of approached the earlier part of the season on autopilot but now that the critical part of the season is just ahead, they've awoken and are starting to play like the NC team they are.

I'll say this (and I'm sure many will disagree). I think we can still win even if Leonte is out injured (which I think is likely, despite what he said about it). He's phenomenal, no question. And there would be a drop off, also no question. But Agudosi and Patton did some really good stuff last game. I think they can get the job done - not as well as Leonte, but if Laviano has time to make throws, I think they can get some separation and they'll make catches.

Keys to a long shot victory:

Offense
1. Run the ball (but not up the middle)
2. At least one or two deep pass completions to open up the running game
3. No turnovers

Defense
1. Slow down their offense by minimizing big plays
2. Unleash a LOUD crowd
3. Stop them on their first possession

All personnel responsible for operating every method of mass transportation available in Ohio, including planes, trains, buses, etc., go on strike on Wednesday and tOSU can't get enough cars together to bring the team to Jersey.

Other than that, the one chance RU has is to play a virtually flawless game and for the Bucks to play their most flawed game of the season. -Is it possible that could happen? You bet, that's why the games are played. Now, is it probable?? Truthfully, I wouldn't bet the farm, (or anything else you hold of value), on it. #1 ranked teams generally don't reach that lofty position as a result of being grossly overrated, and tOSU. without question, absolutely deserves being regarded as the top team in the country right now.

All that said, I've no doubt "R" Knights will give it their best shot...and that's all any team can do.

hold them to FG's....Somehow someway stiffen up in the RED Zone..
We do that we have a shot..

I don't think we can run wide against them. They have much better team speed both on the line and across their linebackers. We're going to have to get creative w/blocking schemes I think, maybe use their D-line's strength and aggression against them.

If the team actually has the confidence that they CAN, then they can! I didn't see any "S" on the chest of the Ohio State players. And, if it wasn't for a bad play at the end, Indiana would have beat Ohio State two weeks ago. At the time, Sudfeld was hurt for Indiana.
So, I say why not!

Look back at the OSU v IU game earlier in October, where only a late goal line stand preserved the win for OSU, who had three turnovers: 2 fumbles and one INT; OSU recovered two of their four total fumbles.

Ezekiel Elliott scored on runs of 55, 65 and 75 yards in the second half.

IU's Sudefeld left the game in the third quarter due to injury. The IU backup QB had a 79-yard run on the final drive, that failed.

IU had no turnovers, held a 10- minute advantage in time of posession, and had 21 first downs to 13 for OSU. OSU was also just 2 for 14 on 3rd down efficiency.

STOP those big runs and win the turnover battle and run at them, and RU can win this. It is not an impossible task, folks. IU almost did it.

If OSU's entire 2 deep roster is suffering from food poisoning? You don't beat OSU with 1 difference maker on offense when he can easily be doubled if necessary. If the defense plays their best game of the year (will be difficult with the banged up young secondary), maybe they can keep it respectable into the 2nd half. It doesn't do any good for RU if the team is on national tv and the game is an ugly blowout. I hope they can keep it interesting at least for a while. I hope it goes well for RU.

I could see OSU coming out flat or disinterested against a very pumped up Rutgers squad and the game being close for a half. The problem is OSU can "wake up", turn it on and hang 30 points on us in the second half and still win going away.

So the only way I see us winning is if after coming out flat, they THEN proceed to make multiple critical mistakes: several turnovers, a special teams gaffe or two, unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on a crucial play, a stalled drive and missed short field goal. This would delay the inevitable onslaught and push the game into the 4th quarter and then who knows...

Obviously the scenario above is an extreme longshot, but that's the only way I see it even entering the realm of possibility.

Barrett, Jones, Elliot, and Miller all get hurt in pregame warmups.

Meyer gets ejected after losing his mind on Grants opening kickoff for a TD.

Rutgers then plays a perfect game.

"... I don't care if we win." Really, vkj? That's not being a "bad fan." That's not being a fan at all. An odd proclamation for any such soul-crushed, embittered, woeful self-loather who so loyally follows RU football.

Come on, man. Retract that. BELIEVE.

Ohio State has Minnesota and Illinois next up on their schedule, then Michigan State. Would be much better if they had Michigan State or Michigan up next and then they might be looking past us in prep for one of those games. Still, maybe they will sit back and think they can cruise the next 3 games and perhaps we can catch them napping.

Generic obvious stuff Jerry, how do you do that…magic?
V Tech beat them by putting eight defenders in the box and OSU did not have enough players to block them…you have to play man to man everywhere in the secondary and give the QB 1.5 seconds to throw.
I saw the OSU special on BTN…lol

I get what he's saying. Winning isn't the most important thing about this game. We're underdogs...everyone knows it. If we have a good showing on the field and in the stands, that's a positive. If we are somehow able to knock them off....well, that's icing on the cake.
