And he reacted by hiring Schiano. Rutgers apparently did not want Schiano. There is no way he would choose to be defensive coordinator over head coach. This is like a poker game. We win this hand. The sleeping giant is starting to awaken.

I'm as big a supporter as they come. But sorry to tell you that Urban is really not overly concerned with Rutgers. And isn't going to make a reactionary hire to a Rutgers hire.

Schiano is a good DC and is a good hire by osu. It's really not any more complex than that.

Yep...Meyer is quaking with fear...our long programmed plan to troll the Buckeyes is moving According to plan!

It's RUDEFCON 1 up in Columbus!:joy:

yeah all the HS coaches love Greg after he left their kids at the alter when he left for Tampa Bay two days before NSD and they got stuck with Flood. Ash can use that very nicely with all the NJ recruits....

Rutgers did not pull a fast one on Urban Meyer. If anything Hobbs was star struck by Meyer and took Ash on his recommendation/reference.

GS and Ash will have a lot of conversations about Rutgers and NJ in the next few weeks.
Ash has already said he intends to pick GS's brain and I'm sure GS will give our new head coach great advice and ideas.
And Meyer won't give a sh*t
Greg Schiano best advise to Ash is don't go on the Rival Message board. Mostly insane football fans that don't know anything but Taylor Ham.

LOL
I have no idea if coaches read rivals or scout boards. Certainly they don't read them for advice, but do they glance at them just to see what the insane diehard fans are thinking...who knows?

The way it looks is Schiano had no interest in the RU job because there was a possibility that Urban & Co. would bring him on board to take over should Urbs go to Cleveland this or next year. If Schiano takes over at tOSU next year, the lower pay (as DC) this year will be more than made up for in years to come if he becomes their HC. Besides, it looks to me like the "DC" title is the addition, not the "Assoc. HC." It's looking like Schiano was anticipating something like this all along--the guy is smart and connected, after all.

people are friggin nuts. Schiano is a very good defensive coordinator (as proven with his teams in Miami) and Ohio State needed a defensive coordinator. It's a solid hire for them.

The "myth" on these boards is that Schiano has such a huge ego that he would never stoop to a coordinator job. That was always just a myth. Schiano's ego is the same as any head coach imo. And many have wound up in coordinator positions throughout their careers...

No one said we pulled a fast one on Urban. And it was not that Urban pushed Ash on us. Urban just told Ash not to take the Syracuse job.

LOL

I doubt they have time to keep up with what's posted on messageboards. Maybe once in a while during breaks for a good laugh.

If your coach is reading message boards, he's not the right guy.

OP is implying that we somehow beat Urban Meyer in some fashion at the game of big time college athletics and he had to respond to us beating him by hiring Schiano. Rutgers administratively is playing checkers where Urban Meyer is a chess grandmaster.

I keep hearing this, but it's absolutely unfair to Ash. It's not like he's coming in with a blank resume, or is coming from some obscure FCS program with no experience at a big time program (like other coaches we've had here). Ash has pedigree and a strong enough resume to have been hired on that alone. Just because Meyer endorsed him, it doesn't have to mean Hobbs was star struck. Would you rather Meyer had not endorsed him? How about others who've had good things to say (Alvarez? Herman?)

Why can't they both be great hires?

Ash is going to make a great HC and I don't see any reason why Schiano won't be a great DC for us.

They are at different places with different responsibilities and expectations.

Agreed. Could GS make it harder for us to keep the best NJ kids home? Sure but, last time I checked, that was already a pretty big mountain to climb. I mean, how much wetter can water get?

Hmm ... 49-7 beating on the road ... Yeah, Urban is worried. Hoping the team improves, but think he's more concerned with teams from Michigan.

I heard from my sauce (Italian) that Meyer is so shaken up
about Rutgers he has applied for admission to the AAC.
