Basketball Rutgers MBB head coach Steve Pikiell interview - 12/6/18

You gotta love Coach P. I found it compelling that he mentioned refs being an issue twice when playing away from home. Nice way for him to take some shots at BIG refs and how they protect blue chip programs without really getting himself in trouble. Also i wish for once we’d get some home cooking at the RAC but just as with the football team we seem to never get home cooking and that really sucks.

The key words you used were “blue chip programs”. Home cooking never helps perpetual bottom feeders. Hopefully Pike and staff lift us off the bottom soon..

We’re definitely on our way up Boss.

You know it’s amazing how much I love our guys and how good we can be but I’ve been watching a ton of Big 10 basketball and it’s incredible how much talent there is on every single team. Ohio State is stacked, Nebraska is stacked and yet Minny found a way to win last night somehow. Coffey lights it up with 32 points. Michigan is ridiculously talented. Purdue, Maryland., Indiana

We have to beat Fordham and Seton Hall as there are just no gimme wins in our league including the home games. And we need to pack the RAC for every league game and give our team a boost with a raucous crowd. That’s going to be a big part of our success.

I liked his comments on Carter. He's been practicing better and more comfortable with system learning from film. Sounds like it just took him a little for it to start clicking. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come and not a mirage. Carter looked smooth and athletic finishing around the rim

Great observation Scangg. Carter reminded me a little of a young Rashad Kent last game but he appears to be a much better foul shooter. Hopefully Carter’s play as well as all the freshmen’s trajectory will continue on a nice upward curve as does the teams future.

Carter looks good. Kent was a weird once in a life time talent that doesnt translate to a lot of what we normally evaluate.

Yes. Very rare to find a 6-6 power forward who appeared to be very overweight, yet was extremely agile, could jump to the moon, and rebounded everything in sight. He also couldn’t hit a barn outside of about 5 feet. There really was no other player like him.

I wish someone would have asked him about slow starts in the second half the last two games. Interested in whether he would attribute it to the increased intensity of MSU and Wisconsin coming out of the break or his own team not being ready. Assume that would be a point of emphasis going forward.

If it keeps happening, I'll keep it in mind

Coffey is the most underrated player in the conference. He needs to be a bit more aggressive some nights and Ricky needs to cultivate that but this kid will dominate the league as an upperclassmen. Would love to have someone like him on our team.

I almost forgot about those FTs. Carter looked great at the line which is huge for a big man who can finish around the rim. I'm surprised teams don't just hack big Shaq automatically anytime he's near the rim and make him earn it at the line.

This is concerning for sure. Gotta find a way to start the second half strong
