The whole court is really fantastic
Great find Terry ! Those are awesome pics. That is gonna look so good on TV with a packed house!
It actually exceeds my expectations and looks freaking amazing. I thought it would be good, but that’s down right beautiful!!!!!
Well considering Jersey is an island off the coast of France I could see your concern. ;)OK, I'm on board about 90% on this. I would love for them to put some sort of outline on Jersey. It kind of looks like a large water stain if you don't know the shape of Jersey. Maybe looks better in person.
That's sarcasm, right? 90% of the people from out of state watching the game on TV are going to think, "What's that large stain on the court? Oh, maybe it's New Jersey." Not what we need. Just wait til some announcer alludes to such a thing.Well considering Jersey is an island off the coast of France I could see your concern. ;)
But New Jersey has a very well known and distinct shape. So I don’t see the problem. :)
This is all so silly! Anyone who doesn’t know the shape of a state should be ashamed of themselves and in private, look it up so your not embarrassed and ashamed of yourself. Really weak if you asked me. Love the state in the background, anyone that doesn’t know it’s NJ shouldn’t matter...
Actually, I looked at it today and thought that many people outside the state/region might not recognize that shape as New Jersey.Well considering Jersey is an island off the coast of France I could see your concern. ;)

Does Ohio State get a pass because it already says “Ohio” somewhere....Actually, I looked at it today and thought that many people outside the state/region might not recognize that shape as New Jersey.
School different now. Wonder if they teach that any more. Sad.I think it looks great. Rutgers fans will complain about anything. The distinct shape of the state of New Jersey is pretty distinct and known by anyone who studied the early history of the nation in grammar school.

Every state has a unique shape. All the more reason to put the shape of NJ under the block R. To “EDUCATE” those who are not aware of our states unique shape!
While they might not know Rutgers is in NJ or Wofford is in SC I bet they could pick out either State’s silhouette on a map.Every state has a unique shape.
But I'm saying that many people won't instantly recognize that shape as New Jersey (geography being taught as poorly as it is these days unfortunately). One kid, who has a Rutgers offer, had zero idea that Rutgers was even in New Jersey until I told him.
I'm sure other schools have similar problems like Wofford. I'm sure they have to let recruits know that Wofford is in South Carolina. However, in Rutgers' case it is the state school of N.J.
Some states have an iconic shape that is pretty instantly recognizable by the masses. Like Texas, California, Florida, Louisiana, probably Oklahoma, Nevada and Idaho. But some states, if you see them as a stand-alone image, are not that recognizable to people. Particularly most 12-30 year olds. Like if you held up the outline of Delaware, North or South Dakota, Oregon and Washington (just a quick few off the top of my head) many people in the demo I mentioned would take a while to figure that out.Everybody knows what Texas looks like but 90% don’t know the same about New Jersey.
Interesting observation.
I'm guessing you don't have much interaction with the typical HS basketball recruit. You might be surprised what some of these kids admit they don't know in their unguarded moments. While they might not know Rutgers is in NJ or Wofford is in SC I bet they could pick out either State’s silhouette on a map.
And if they can’t...
Well as I kinda inferred in the post you quoted...that’s their, their parents and their schools issue/problem. Which is kinda sad.I'm guessing you don't have much interaction with the typical HS basketball recruit. Pretty much.Well as I kinda inferred in the post you quoted...that’s their, their parents and their schools issue/problem. Which is kinda sad.
The OSU court says "Ohio State" right on the map of the state, so that one is pretty obvious. Also very obvious to me because I grew up in Ohio. Everybody knows what Texas looks like. Now, it appears that we have decided to copy those schools with our design, and overall, the design looks pretty good. Like I said, I'm 90% on board. I'd have said Rutgers instead of the block R, but the hugeness of the R is cool. So, OK there. And the state is fine by me, but it looks kind of like a stain rather than something deliberate. Had it been a color other than the color of the "outside the paint/inside the 3 point line" color, that would do it, too.
Just a suggestion.
I think anyone would know that's NJ. If anything I'd change it's what you mention about the color of the wood inside the 3 point line and the NJ silhouette. Rather than matching I'd just keep the wood inside the 3 point line the same as the rest of the court and let the NJ silhouette stand out similar to the OSU and two Texas courts. But that's not a big deal, it still looks nice. With the image of NJ stained the exact same color as the inside of the 3 point line, to me, it’s obvious that it’s intentional.
For those saying some people won’t know it’s the state of NJ, my reply is that if people don’t know, this is an opportunity to educate themselves pretty easily.
I think this is perfect. It looks great, better than I thought it could look. And I think all athletic fields should have this type of image.
hopefully straight up so it didn't all freeze together from the ice.Hell, I met someone last month who thinks water freezes at 50 degrees (she's a native Floridian and yes I bought her a drink after that comment) [winking]
