Rutgers: 'Prepare to meet your doom!'

Uh.....Washington players poster for "death row" ?? Strange choice. How about "killers...or muggers...or convicts....or lethal injection"

Anyway, I'm psyched for our win over the 11th ranked team.

10 Best College Football Defenses For 2016

6. Washington
Defensive coordinators almost never become household names outside of the SEC, but the Pac-12 has a guy in Pete Kwiatkowski who’ll be a national superstar soon. His defense replaced seven starters last season and still led the conference in scoring and total D – and now he has veterans to work with.

USC might have more talent on defense, and Stanford will be fine, but the Dawgs have the killers, especially in the secondary in Budda Baker and Sidney Jones. The front three won’t give up a thing against the run with Elijah Qualls heading it up, and the linebacking corps has the veterans to be steady.

2. Myles Gaskin, RB, Washington

+26.8 overall; No. 5 among returning FBS running backs

Gaskin rushed for 1302 yards and 14 touchdowns as a freshman. He proved to be one of the more elusive running backs in the country forcing 61 missed tackles and earning a 104.6 elusive rating which ranks No. 9 among returning FBS running backs. Gaskin showed an ability to break tackles with 878 of his rushing yards coming after contact. He also showed a he could create big plays as he had 19 runs of 15 yards or more and a 46.9 breakaway percentage which also ranks No. 9 among returning FBS running backs.

4. Jake Browning, QB, Washington

+21.6 overall; No. 15 among returning FBS quarterbacks

The second Husky to make the list, Browning could potentially lead the team to adarkhorse College Football Playoff berth this season. Browning was the highest-graded freshman quarterback in 2015 as he outperformed UCLA’s Josh Rosen over the course of the year and was our selection for Al-Freshman team quarterback. He completed 233 of 370 passes (63 percent) for 2,955 yards with 16 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Browning was one of the more effective deep ball passers in all of FBS last season as his 50.0 percent accuracy on passes targeted 20 yards or more downfield ranks No. 6 among returning FBS quarterbacks. Browning was also very impressive under duress, as he completed 66.7 percent of his passes when pressured which ranks No. 2 among returning FBS quarterbacks.

2. Washington
The only group in the Pac-12 that produced more INTs (15) than TD passes allowed (11) last year despite facing some potent offenses, the Huskies' DBs should be better in 2015. UDub has two excellent, long, athletic corners in 6-1 Sidney Jones (four INTs, four forced fumbles) and 6-2 Kevin King (three INTs). Budda Baker at safety is a leader with superb range and field vision who Chris Petersen raves about. Darren Gardenhire and JoJo McIntosh also will be factors for the Huskies.

All I'm going to say is in 2005 Northwestern was a 28 point dog at ND who was ranked high too. Northwestern walked out with a victory. Let's not make Washington out to be the great.

2. Washington
True, it’s been a rocky 21st century for U-Dub, which last won 10 games or a league title in 2000. However, all signs point to the start of a new trajectory. Chris Petersen enters his third year at the school, armed with a squad flush in young talent on both sides of the ball. The Huskies leaned on a pack of underclassmen in 2015, such as QB Jake Browning, RB Myles Gaskin and pro-ready DBs Budda Baker and Sidney Jones. Plus, they finished with the wind at their back, whipping Oregon State, Wazzu and Southern Miss by double-digits. If the kids keep maturing in Seattle, Washington could seriously threaten Stanford and Oregon in the Pac-12 North.

2. West Coast's Next Top Model: All Washington needs is Tyra Banks to hype its season. Everyone else has bought in this preseason, or so it seems.

The Huskies finished a middling 7-6 in Chris Petersen's first campaign. But with only 10 seniors playing in the bowl game, there is plenty of upside. Thirty-five players in the two-deep against Southern Miss in the Heart of Dallas Bowl were either true freshmen, redshirt freshmen or sophomores.

Ignoring a 17-12 win over USC last season, the Huskies won their other six by an average of 34 points. It looks like Pete has gotten it turned around in a hurry at U-Dub.

PAC-12 Media Poll

SAN FRANCISCO –– For the first time in the 56-year history of the conference preseason poll, STANFORD was chosen the favorite to win the 2016 Pac-12 Conference football title in a vote of 33 media members who cover Pac-12 football. The Cardinal received 20 votes to earn the preseason favorite pick. Stanford collected 186 points for the top spot in the North Division, holding 24 first-place votes. UCLA, which picked up three votes to win the Pac-12 Championship, tops the Pac-12 South as the Bruins collected 19 first-place votes and totaled 180 points to edge out USC. The Trojans, who garnered the second-most championship votes with five, tallied 173 points.

WASHINGTON was picked to finish second in the Pac-12 North Division, collecting 163 points with eight first-place votes. The Huskies garnered four votes as the Pac-12 Champion, while UTAH picked up one vote to win the Pac-12 Football Championship Game.

The media poll has correctly selected the Conference Champion in 29 of 55 previous polls, but only twice in the last nine polls. Following are the results of the preseason media poll (points 6-5-4-3-2-1, first-place votes in parentheses):

Which QBs will have a breakout year this fall?

1. Jake Browning, Washington

Washington’s young offense took its share of lumps in 2015, but the Huskies are poised for a huge breakout in 2016. Browning was the prized recruit in coach Chris Petersen’s 2015 signing class and won the starting job prior to the opener against Boise State. Browning missed one game due to injury but still finished his freshman year with solid numbers. He completed 233 of 369 passes for 2,955 yards and 16 scores. Additionally, Browning’s 63.1 completion percentage ranked third nationally among freshman quarterbacks. Browning’s supporting cast is also expected to take a step forward, as the Huskies regain a valuable deep threat in junior John Ross (missed 2015 due to a knee injury). Browning’s continued growth and development is a big reason why Washington can win the Pac-12 this fall.

DAILY FOCUS: IS WASHINGTON THE BEST RETURNING TEAM IN THE PAC-12?
Jeff Dooley hits on the Pac-12 and its rising stars, along with sleepers for the Walter Camp award.

Every week day in “Daily Focus,” Pro Football Focus looks at the top college football storylines and explains what they mean from a PFF perspective.

Is Washington the best returning team from the Pac-12? ESPN.com’s Kevin Gemmell detailed the extent of the hype surrounding Chris Petersen’s Washington team heading into 2016, which came to the surface during last week’s Pac-12 Media Days.

Just how good is this Huskies team? The truth is they do have a case for being the conference’s best team based upon their returning production. Quarterback Jake Browning had an excellent first season, even out-pacing fellow Pac-12 true freshman QB Josh Rosen of UCLA in terms of performance. Browning topped our lists of breakout QBs and dark-horse Heisman candidates on the strength of ranking 15th in passing grade among returning QBs, sixth in deep adjusted completion rate and second in adjusted completion rate under pressure. Browning is joined in the backfield by running back Myles Gaskin, who ranked fourth among returning backs in rushing grade during his true freshman season, and has the potential to be one of the nation’s best runners in 2016.

The defense is likewise well-stocked, starting up front with D-tackle duo Elijah Qualls and Greg Gaines, edge defender Joe Mathis and linebacker Azeem Victor. They also have one of the top returning seccondaries in the conference, led by cornerback Sidney Jones and safety Budda Baker.

With recent conference heavyweights Oregon, Stanford and USC all replacing key contributors at quarterback and other positions, there is perhaps more opportunity than usual for a team like UW to steal away the Pac-12 championship. They certainly have the core of talent to do it.
